This is a huge number, and shows how popular of an idea it was – just wish that Sony thought the same. We are not certain if such a feature would ever make it to the PS3, but it would help them get one-up on their rivals.

In our article yesterday we also asked if Sony would consider changing to the Google OS, but some readers feared that this would leave the console open for vulnerability, meaning that they could be hacked or jailbreaked more easily.

Other readers said that they were all up for the idea of having Google TV on their PS3, as long as it is free. One of the biggest issues with this idea though is with the Intel chip. This is the processor that forms part of the hardware of Google TV; this will cause an issue with the current processor in the PlayStation 3.

OK, so what seems like a great idea could face a few hurdles, but there has to be a possibility?

The new range is to be called Sony Internet TV, and you can tell just by the name alone that there will be full integration with Google to access the World Wide Web. We thought we would look at three of the four models – those with the LED backlight technology.

The three models are as follows: NSX-46GT1, NSX-40GT1, NSX-32GT1. The 32-inch will cost you $799.99, the 40-inch $999.99, and the 46-inch $1,399.99. These are not the final prices, but are thought to be what you would expect to pay.

All three models offer Full HD 1080p display with Edge LED backlight, built-in Wi-Fi, four HDMI and USB inputs, Intel processor, and coming in the early part of 2011 will be the ability to download apps from Android Market. For spec details for each model visit Engadget.

All five devices along with the remote are now available for pre-order on Sony Style, and will come to Best Buy on October 24th. Stewart Wolpin from DVICE has taken a long hard look at the specs for each TV set and has offered his pros and cons for Sony Internet TV.

One of the things that Wolpin liked about these Google TV devices is how you can watch TV while surfing the Internet – this could become very valuable when a commercial comes on and you want to search for more information on that product.

A bad point however, is the remote; we already discussed this in an earlier article, as it is just too bulky and clumsy looking. Logitech has a much better solution; their aftermarket remote makes Sony’s effort look like something from the Leap electronics toy range.

The video comes to us live from Engadget, who were lucky enough to be in attendance at the event. You’ll also be pleased to know, that the video isn’t a brief one, as Sony allowed them to shoot over 8 minutes of footage.

What you do see in the video is a run through of all the key features of Google TV, and also a close up look at the unusual-looking remote control which works with the device. Engadget has seemed to highlight the criticisms of the new unit rather than the positives, so you might want to check out their preview before you even think of pre-ordering.

The four models of Sony Google TV’s are as follows, the 24-inch NSX-24GT1, 32-inch NSX-32GT1, 40-inch NSX-40GT1, and finally the 46-inch NSX-46GT1. The prices for these devices are $599.99, $799.99, $999.99, and $1,399.99 respectively.

The three larger models offer Full HD 1080p display and Edge LED backlight technology; the smallest model only has CCFL backlight technology. All TV’s come with integrated Google, which can be updated when new features are launched – just like the firmware on the PS3.

According to Engadget – who is at the event – prices start from $599 to $1399, with sizes ranging from 24-46 inches. The Internet TV Blu-ray player will cost $399, which offers greater value than the recently unveiled Logitech Revue.

You can pre-order these devices now from Sony Style ready for when they go on sale this weekend, but will have to wait until October 24th if you were looking to purchase from Best Buy – wonder if there will be any Black Friday 2010 deals coming up for these devices?

We will offer you more details about each device over the next couple of days, but the early signs certainly look promising for what Sony call their first true Internet TV.

There is certain to be a huge gathering today, as the media wait to see what both Google and Sony has come up with – anticipation levels will be high. We have to warn you that these Google TV’s will not be as cheap as the $300 set-top-box from Logitech, but Sony has gone an entirely different route.

Jessica E. Vascellaro from WSJ points out that those attending the show will have to prepare themselves, as there will be 30 minutes of demos before they can get up and get their hands-on the new devices.

This event should be a lot of fun, as Mike Posner and a “well-known” DJ will be getting the crowd going – just hope they do not take the limelight away from what the attendees are really there for.

As reported from Phandroid, the new Sony TVs will be available from retailers such as Best Buy and will be available to buy during the holiday season.

Attendees at a special Best Buy preview event in New York managed to get a sneak peek at a few of the models, and you’ll be pleased to know that we have some pictures from the event to show you.

One of the first models to be equipped with Google TV is the Sony NSX-46GT1. Pricing is unknown at the moment, but you should expect to pay a premium on top of the already high prices for the added Google TV factor.
