We have some rather interesting news now regarding the launch of the much-anticipated Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc smartphone, with reports coming in of a new “sakura pink” version. However, before you all get excited, it appears that it will only be available in Japan for now.

As Devina Divecha over on the t3.com website recently noted, NTT DoCoMo has recently revealed that when the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc releases in Japan on March 24th it will be available in the “shocking” pink color, as well as the already announced Misty Silver and Midnight Blue colors.

There’s been no word at this stage whether or not the “sakura pink” version will eventually be available in the UK. However, Orange UK has announced that apart from the other two colors mentioned, they will also be offering an exclusive black version of the Android smartphone.

The Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc runs on Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) OS and features a 4.2-inch touchscreen display, which according to Miles J Thomas at 3g.co.uk is the largest screen on a Sony Ericsson device ever, a 1GHz Snapdragon processor and an 8-megapixel camera.

It also comes with 512MB internal memory, although this is expandable via the integrated card slot that accepts both microSD/SDHC memory cards. Would you buy the “sakura pink” version if it was released in the UK?

If you have been excited about the upcoming Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc we have a must-see video for you to check out, this video lasts 11 minutes and has been embedded at the end of this post, however it originally showed up on HDblog’s YouTube channel.

The video gives you a good-look at the handset’s physical design and user interface, it also shows off its media player functionality, impressive HD camera and the Arc’s overall speedy performance, the software running on the Arc is not final, therefore we can expect even more from the Arc when Sony finalize their Android 2.3 Gingerbread ROM.

I am sure that in a few weeks time at MWC 2011 we will see a version of the Xperia Arc which is ready for release, perhaps a release date will be announced at the show.

It will be interesting to see how this smartphone does in the high-end market, with a massive 4.2-inch display which uses the Sony Mobile BRAVIA Engine, an 8.1 megapixel camera capable of 720p video capture, Android 2.3 and a 1GHz Qualcomm MSM8255 processor it certainly has the makings of a great smartphone, what do you think?

You can find out a little more about the Xperia Arc here, at the moment we have no details regarding a release date and price, therefore we will have to keep you posted.

Yesterday we posted an article which gave you a good-look at the upcoming Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc, we suggested that it would be running Android 2.3 Gingerbread, however it looks as if Gingerbread may in fact be Android version 2.4.

Below we have embedded an image showing the Xperia Arc seemingly running “Android version 2.4″, according to Engadget Google is not yet ready to roll-out Honeycomb, therefore this may well mean that Honeycomb will be Android version 3.0 and Gingerbread will be Android version 2.4.

I’m sure that by the end of CES 2011 things will be a lot clearer, hopefully we will be able to confirm which Android release the Arc will run as standard (Gingerbread / Honeycomb)and which version numbers will be given to the Android releases.

To be honest with you I would much prefer Android 2.4 to be given to the Gingerbread release and Honeycomb to be given the Android 3.0 version number, let’s face it we have heard that Honeycomb will not require physical buttons (for things like Home, Search, Back and Menu), therefore this significant change requires a significant change in version number, what do you think?

Yesterday Jamie Pert mentioned that Sony Ericsson would announce their new Xperia Arc smartphone, and he was right. We already knew some of the specs, but did not know much about the new Reality Display. Well Engadget thought that they would give us some insight so thought that they would see how it compares to the Retina Display (which is rumored to be used on the PlayStation Phone as well) on the Apple iPhone 4 and the screen on the Motorola Droid X.

All three displays are very close in quality, but the Reality Display will certainly come into its own when watching videos etc, as Sony Ericsson has incorporated Bravia TV technology. It is said that colors and details will be greatly enhanced, but we will just have to take their word for it at the moment.

There are currently no videos offering a comparison between the three handsets, so you will just have to make do with three images instead. It does look as though the Retina Display on the iPhone 4 has the edge over Reality Display on the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc, as you can see pixels when you zoom in close on texts.

We have done a bit of searching on YouTube, and are glad to say that we have found a video of this new handset in action. The video, which we have embedded for you below focuses on the new Reality Display. We were very surprised at how much the Mobile BRAVIA Engine technology helps to improve the video image quality, but this is something that we have come to expect from Sony.

Sony Ericsson will undoubtedly be unveiling some new Android-based devices at CES 2011 this week, one smartphone which will almost certainly show up is the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc, a photo of this smartphone can be seen below.

As you can see the Arc is a good-looking smartphone, details are not confirmed, however rumors suggest that there is a huge 4.2-inch display which supports a resolution of 854 x 480, a 1GHz Qualcomm processor and an 8 megapixel back camera capable of HD video capture. Engadget also say that it will run Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

The image embedded below shows just how thin the Arc really is, it his a curved back which makes the smartphone just 8.7mm thick at its thinnest point, which makes the center of the handset slightly thinner than the iPhone 4.

These specs are good but not great considering as we saw similar specs in smartphones at CES 2010, that said if it does come with Android 2.3 Gingerbread the software side of things should be great, however I can’t help but think Sony Ericsson could have pushed the boat out and used a 1.2GHz+ processor, AS 1Ghz chips seems to be the norm for today’s high-end smartphones.

You get a better look at the Xperia Arc’s design below (scroll down) in the official promotional video, hopefully this smartphone will appear at CES 2011 and we can confirm some of the specification rumors.

Do you like the look of the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc?
