Insomniac Games are giving first priority to PlayStation Plus subscribers, but we are told that even if you are not a PS Plus subscriber, you will still get a chance to take part in the beta sometime after this date. PS Plus subscribers will not need any sort of beta code, unlike US customers, to access Resistance 3 as it will appear in the PlayStation Plus section of the PSN store.

If you live in the US, the Resistance 3 multiplayer beta starts a little earlier than the European start date. The circumstances are a little different too, as you must have purchased SOCOM 4 that comes with a specially included beta code. The beta for US customers kicks off on August 4 and you can use your special beta code from this date to get access.

Good news all around then, Resistance fans. As we now know when the official date for Resistance 3 multiplayer beta kicks off, you will be able to take part in two game modes; Chain Reaction and Team Deathmatch. The final release, which is scheduled to arrive around a month from when the beta kicks off, will have a total of five game modes.

When we first announced that the beta was to be announced in the coming weeks, we were not yet aware of what maps the Resistance 3 open beta would include. We can now tell you that Insomniac Games have revealed two major maps will be playable; the Seaside of Glamorgan, Wales, and Trainyard in Bogota, Colombia.

Insomniac Games have also told us that whilst playing the beta, you can level your character up, but it is capped to level 20 which means that you wont be able to get the full scope of available abilities, mode, maps, and weapons until the game launches in September.

With the beta opening up in in just under a week (for US customers), those of you who are lucky enough to have got yourself a beta code from SOCOM 4 should be able to get a firm taste of what to expect with the final release, which also helps a big deal towards testing the games online infrastructure to make it the best experience for everyone. What’s more is that they have also revealed a list of changes over on the socom.com website. As Jeremy Dunham – Zipper Interactive’s senior community manager – notes, the new patch includes a few pre-loaded files that prepare the SOCOM 4 game for the upcoming release of the SOCOM Pro Assault Pack.

The v1.03 patch has fixed a number of issues including the problem where the game clock would remain frozen at 0:00 when players respawned or started another round, as well as the spawn delay issue that prevented gamers from spawning consistently at the beginning of a round.

Players will also find that the new patch has increased the backwards-movement speeds and character movement strafe, added an option to activate a center dot in the targeting reticule, added an option to turn in-game XP displays on/off and smoothed out and sped up the ‘settling into crouch’ character movement.

As Jeremy Dunham – Senior Community Manager at Zipper Interactive – over on the blog.us.playstation.com website recently reported, all PlayStation Plus subscribers will now be able to download the ‘Abandoned’ map and the exclusive shotguns that were originally offered as a GameStop pre-order incentive.

That doesn’t appear to be the only news either. When the developer announced the SOCOM Pro just before the game was due to arrive in store, they promised that they would release the often requested AK-47 and M16 weapons. We can now tell you that they’re almost here!!

What’s more exciting is the fact that the weapons will come packaged alongside a batch of new competitive multiplayer maps. The SOCOM Pro Assault Pack, which includes 3 new maps (Red Line, Driftwood and Double Cross), will be available as a free download exclusively for SOCOM Pro members.

However, according to Brier Dudley over on the seattletimes.nwsource.com website, Sony would not say at this stage whether the company had seen a boost in sales of the SOCOM 4: U.S. Navy SEALs game following the recent action. Although some believe that sales will be affected.

As many of you will know, the SOCOM 4 game, which is developed by Zipper Interactive, follows a SEAL team as they embark on a dangerous mission in Southeast Asia. The PS3 exclusive can also be played with the PlayStation Move controller, which can also be mounted in an accessory rifle.

Zipper Interactive is a Sony-owned studio in Redmond, which is led by people who have previously worked on military simulation programs. Zipper Interactive actually consulted with SEALs as it developed the hugely popular franchise in order to make it more realistic.

When Soderberg was asked if the game’s sales had recently jumped he simply referred people to a Sony spokeswoman, who said that the company was currently working on extracting sales data for the SOCOM 4 game. Do you think that sales have perhaps been boosted by recent events?

As recently noted over on the justpushstart.com website, the SOCOM 4: U.S. Navy SEAls game features more than 30 Intels for players to collect, with each mission containing 3 Intels. In order for players to find all of the Intels successfully, they have to literally search everywhere.

However, the recently unveiled locations guide will help you find them a lot quicker. For example, one of the Intels in the First Strike mission is located on a table with a closed umbrella near the artillery, while another is on top of a table in a café just off the highway.

Meanwhile, the Intels in the Rendevous mission are located on the stove in front of a destroyed building before you meet up with 707th, in front of the first building that you encounter on your left as you make you way to the AA battery and on top of a table inside a barn.

According to a recent article posted on IGN every copy of SOCOM 4 Full Deployment Edition will come with a code for beta access to the Resistance 3 beta, however you will have to check the packaging for the Resistance 3 logo if you are purchasing the standard version of the game.

At the end of this post we have embedded an image showing the box art with the Resistance 3 logo showing, this may result in more in-store purchases as buying online will not ensure that you will get the beta access, which will obviously be frustrating for those of you who have already pre-ordered the the standard edition of SOCOM 4.

For once in-store purchases are being rewarded as most of the time online retailers offer such bonuses, the question is: Will this be enough for you to buy SOCOM 4: U.S. Navy SEALs in-store on its release date (April 19 North America)?

According to a recent post by Jeremy Dunham (Zipper Interactive’s senior community manager) over on the blog.eu.playstation.com website, the two multiplayer maps in question – Cesspool and Von Heine Express – have not really been seen outside of the developer’s up until now.

The Von Heine Express map, which according to Jeremy was one of the very last multiplayer maps they finished, is set in a makeshift military base on the coast of Southeast Asia. The map is said to be ideal for great sniping scenarios, and comes complete with abandoned train cars.

Meanwhile, the Cesspool map, which was one of the earlier multiplayer maps that were developed for the SOCOM: Special Forces game, came about due to how much the developer loved the thematic from the single player mission ‘Means to an End.’ This map is ideal for close-quarters combat.

The game isn’t due out until April 19th in the US, April 22nd in the UK, but there is a beta ongoing now that will run until April 13th. If you’re in the US, you can get into the beta with special copies of Killzone 3 or if you’re a PlayStation Plus user, but in the UK, only a PSN+ subscription will get you in.

With that said and done, let us tell you how impressed we are with the graphics featured in the game. We admit, we weren’t too impressed when Sony was showing off the game with PlayStation Move all those months ago, but we’re pleased to say that SOCOM 4 may be a surprise package this year for PS3 owners.

The video is over one hour in length, but you’ll want to skip to around 38 minutes for when the gameplay starts. A big thanks goes to Kueef for providing this video for us, hopefully it won’t get taken down soon so you can all enjoy it.

The third-person tactical shooter – which is in fact known as SOCOM: Special Forces outside of the United States – will be released in Europe on April 20th. Australian and New Zealand gamers can look forward to the game arriving on April 21st, while UK gamers will get it on April 22nd.

As most of you will already know, the SOCOM: Special Forces game, which is developed by Zipper Interactive and published by Sony Computer Entertainment, comes with support for the PlayStation Move controller and features both single player and multiplayer that supports up to 32 players.

According to Mark Fajardo over on the justpushstart.com website, the SOCOM 4: U.S. Navy SEALs game – which is exclusively for the PS3 – will feature a total of 41 trophies including 34 bronze, 6 silver, 4 gold and the platinum, which gamers will receive once they achieve all the other trophies.

If gamers manage to complete a competitive multiplayer game from every gametype, they will be awarded with the Good Game bronze trophy. To achieve the Hat Trick bronze trophy, players must eliminate three enemies in a row using headshots.

In order to be rewarded with the silver Over Achiever trophy, gamers must complete a custom campaign mission on every map within the single player mode or co-op. If gamers want to achieve the silver Information Warfare trophy, they have to collect all the Intel within the story campaign.

To receive the Best of the Best gold trophy, players must complete the Story Campaign mode on the Elite difficulty. As for the Above and Beyond gold trophy, gamers have to complete a total of 100 objectives throughout their career. You can read more of the list via the JPS website.
