Yesterday Apple launched the Mac OS X 10.6.6 beta for developers to test out, at the moment it is unclear what the update will bring, however I’m sure we will be seeing the new Mac App Store introduced.

If you are running Snow Leopard and have installed all of the latest software updates you will be running Mac OS X 10.6.4 (at the time of this post), Mac OS X 10.6.5 is tipped for a launch any day now, therefore we believe that the public will have to wait some time before Mac OS X 10.6.6 arrives.

Apart from the new Mac App Store we are unsure of what else OS X 10.6.6 will bring, obviously Apple will take this opportunity to crank up security and fix bugs, but in terms of new features and functionality we will have to keep you posted.

What would you like to see introduced in Max OS X 10.6.6?

Apple is due to release a minor update this week, Snow Leopard Graphics Update 1.0, which will aim to address three issues, which is intended to improve features on games that run on ATI or Nvidia. We first assumed that this was just a standard update, but David Chartier from Macworld explains on PC World that this is more significant than that.

It has been suggested that the new update will offer around three times higher frame rates in certain games – including World of Warcraft. Andrew Durdin, a Flickr user has uploaded a screenshot to demonstrate the improvements made to Portal performance.

Apple and ATI worked together to come up with these new drivers, which also aims to fix a number of bugs on Snow Leopard. Chartier is happy about this latest update, but is still uncertain that Mac will ever make it as a true gaming platform?

We know that Apple has a few systems that are capable of playing some graphic intense games, but as you are unable to upgrade a simple thing as a graphics card – it shoots itself in the foot as a hardcore gamers choice.

A recent article posted on MacWorld looks at how Mac users can enable missing services in Snow Leopard, all of these missing services are accessible within System Preferences.

If you Control-click on some text in TextEdit you should see three context menu items, these are ‘New Note With Selection’, ‘New Email With Selection’, and ‘Make New Sticky Note’, if you do not see these you will have to enable the correct service.

To access the missing services simply go to System Preferences, click on ‘Keyboard’, click on the ‘Keyboard Shortcuts’ tab, in the left-hand column click on ‘Services’.

Now you should see a right-hand column, if you scroll down you should see ‘New Note With Selection’, ‘New Email With Selection’ and ‘Make New Sticky Note’, as standard these will be on, simply toggle these services off then back on and the context menu items should show u in future.

Did this work for you?
