The game is developed by Silicon Knights, the team behind Xbox 360 exclusive Too Human and we first brought you news about it back in December last year. Since then it has been keeping a relatively low profile, until it was announced by Activision, the game’s publisher, recently to be coming out this week, Friday to be exact. To mark the launch, the team has also released a trailer, which can be viewed below.

X-Men: Destiny is an RPG that allows players to take control of one of three exclusive characters, Aimi, Grant or Adrian. After selecting the character, players must build their own legacy by customizing their powers and increasing their reputation as a legendary mutant. They can choose to side with either the Brotherhood or the X-Men. As they progress through the levels, they can acquire various other X-Genes, the strand of gene that gives mutants their powers, which they can then use for their own.

CVG were able to give a full account of what they thought of the game based on their hands-on time they had with it. Despite being a little skeptical, given the reputation of the developers, they remained optimistic about X-Men: Destiny as they are self-confessed ‘die-hard Marvel fans.’ You can check out their full review by clicking the link above.

However, there is a bit of bad news that comes along with it. According to Christopher Hooton over at metro.co.uk, the images that have surfaced online – which seemed to have turned up on a YouTube video – appear to show PlayStation 2 style graphics.

Although we don’t know exactly what platforms the X-Men: Destiny game will be released on, we do know that it is due to arrive sometime this autumn. In the meantime, Tamoor Hussain at computerandvideogames.com has provided a few more details.

The first details for the Silicon Knights developed title have arrived courtesy of the latest issue of the Official Xbox Magazine UK. The game is said to take place at a time when the X-Men have suffered a loss, hate crimes are rampant and anti-mutant sentiment is at its highest.

The X-Men: Destiny game will of course be packed with plenty of recognizable faces, including Magneto, Quicksilver, Gambit and Surge. What do you think of the X-Men: Destiny game? What platforms do you think it will be released on?

What we do know is that it won’t be on any one specific console, so no exclusivity. We have done a bit of scouting around and found these guys have a Facebook page, you can join it here by following the link and hitting the “Like” button.

I really hope that something new is introduced to these games, perhaps a “design your own mutant” would be cool, someone that you can play through the story with or choose your own path to join the X-Men or all who oppose them.
