It is pretty obvious considering the history of many of Apple’s products that the iPad is shortly due to receive an upgrade. The current model was released last March, which came just under a year since the original model was released. Now reports are hinting that the iPad 3 release will come days after an early March showcase.

Before it was suggested that Apple would be holding two events with one this month and another during March, and now it seems there will be no event during February. But according to an article over at All Things D, sources are claiming that Apple has penciled in an event for the first week in March to showcase the next iPad.

It is being claimed that the event will be taking place in San Francisco, which could be at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. This is the company’s preferred location for many of its big product announcements. While there is no actual date given for the device hitting retailers it is believed to be similar to the iPad 2, and available around a week or so after the launch event.

The sources are claiming the device will have a similar form factor to the current model but with an improved display, faster processor, and an improved graphics processing unit. Earlier today we brought you the news that the iPad 3 may not feature a quad-core processor, but you would have thought whatever unit it has it will be quicker than the current version uses.

Meanwhile some more perspective iPad 3 components may have come to light, as AppleInsider are reporting of an apparent leak of an LCD panel that is made by Sharp. It is being claimed the unit is the 9.7-inch Retina Display for the iPad 3.

The screen features three flat cables that are connected to the bottom of the LCD, which is claimed to have 2,048 x 1,536 resolutions. If true the iPad 3 display won’t match the 326 pixel-per-inch density found on the iPhone 4S, and be closer to around 260 pixels-per-inch.

It is a big leap up from the iPad 2 though which has a resolution of 1,024 x 768, with a pixel density of 132 per-inch. It is believed the iPad 3 will come with a bigger battery that has been redesigned to accommodate LTE technology.

We have some more information on the rumored Apple ‘iTV’ device to share with you now, as recent rumors are suggesting that the alleged device from Apple could be offered to consumers in a variety of three television sizes.

The last we heard on the Apple TV rumors, is that the device could hit the market as early as within 12 months, but now we have details on Sharp being a potential component supplier for Apple, and the possibility of Apple offering three screen sizes for consumers.

The information has surfaced from Pocket-Lint, who cite sources coming out of Japan as noted by Smartwatch, that two of the sizes available will be a 33-inch Apple TV and a more luxurious 55-incher. Further information reveals that Sharp could be using IGZO screen technology for Apple’s TV sets which is thought to be similar to the current OLED standard.

As for software features, you can expect many of today’s current iOS features to be bundled with the television set, which includes Apple’s new Siri voice technology which we understand will make up a core part of Apple’s strategy for their iTV or whatever the product will end up being called. You can also expect to see a very simple interface according to the visions of Steve Jobs, as he promised Apple’s TV product will ‘have the simplest user interface you could ever imagine’.

Will customers take to a television from Apple though? Considering that every other product so far with the Steve Jobs midas touch has turned to gold, we expect this to be another hit with consumers. Let’s hope that the 12 month release prediction is accurate too, meaning that we can all look forward to seeing these on shelves before the end of 2012.

Would you buy a new TV from Apple if the price is right? Do you welcome the idea of Sharp providing the display screen components?

If you are thinking of picking up the Sharp 42-inch LC-42SV49U LCD 1080p HDTV during the upcoming holiday sales, you may be surprised to hear see that detailed information on this particular model is no where to be found.

It looks like retailers such as Best Buy may have this model as an exclusive, as we couldn’t find any official information on Sharp’s website about this TV. What we do know about it though, is that it will have a 60Hz refresh rate, 176/176 viewing angles and 3 HDMI inputs to suit your media needs.

Considering the secrecy regarding this Sharp model, you can bet that quantity is going to be extremely limited, so if you intend to pick one up during the holiday sales, then prepare yourselves accordingly by getting down to retailer queues early.

As a point of reference, Best Buy will be opening their doors for the start of their Black Friday sales on November 24 at 12am. We’ve heard however though that those planning to buy doorbuster items will be able to pick up tickets starting at 10pm, so make a note of that if this TV interests you.

Once we gather more intel on this elusive Sharp HDTV, we’ll update this info, but in the meantime feel free to post any information that you have found as well. Does the 42″ Sharp LC-42SV49U interest you this year or have you found a better TV to aim for this year?

Yesterday, Sharp and EAccess finally unveiled their Android 3 tablet, the Sharp Galaxpagos A01SH, and while it doesn’t soar up there with a glint in its eye, and a recognisable body, the tablet still seems fairly impressive especially with all the contenders that it is up against in the tablet market.

While rather overlooked, the Sharp Galapagos A01SH tablet will come pre-installed with the truly mobile tablet OS – Android 3.2 and run off a dual-core Tegra 2 and 1GB of RAM. The display on the 7-inch is kind of a let down at just 1024×600 whilst the 5.5-inch and the 10.8-inch slates seem more ‘exotic,’ according to Electronista.com. One thing which we can’t ignore is the large plastic bezel which surrounds the display – it’s ugly!

Other hardware of note is that it comes standard with 2 cameras, front and back. The front housed camera is that of a two-megapixel, and the back is a five-megapixel. The battery also does not seem all that bad either, with 7.5 hours on the battery clock or 6 for video playback.

Storage is also on the rather light side of the spectrum. At only 8GB of storage at your beck-and-call, users may want to opt in to the use of a microSDHC slot for all that extra data you might want to lunge around with you. If you think that you wont be filling up that 8GB, you might have to think again as the Sharp Galapagos A01SH tablet also comes bundled with a 42Mbps 3G mobile router, meaning you can get online, anytime, any-place. 8GB suddenly doesn’t sound all that appealing does it?

Bad news for the US, as it seems as though you wont get this device until it passes through the FCC (which we now have heard that it has done so), but we are told that Sharp hope to eventually get this on your shelves sometime in the near future.

Unfortunately, a price for the Sharp Galapagos A01SH tablet has not been confirmed as of yet, but it has been promised to be “competitive,” relative to the rest of the market.

You can get your hands on one of these at the end of the month (August), so keep your eyes peeled for the news to break on when and where you can get yourself one.

What do you make of Sharp’s tablet offering?

This month has been one which has seen a lot of large screens shown off. A little over a week ago we brought you news of the Samsung D9500 75” 3D TV and more recently news of the 85” 3D TV from Bang & Olufsen.

Today we have news of another huge screen, this time from Sharp. They have been flaunting their 85” prototype which has an astonishing resolution of 7,680 x 4,320 pixels. That works out to be 103ppi, which may not seem much compared to some smaller displays we have seen recently like the 4” Toshiba display which has 367ppi.

In comparison to other larger screens, for example a 60” 1080p HDTV which would only have a 36ppi, the Sharp display has a lot more. According to the article at DigInfo TV ultra-high definition like this has only been able to be shown with a projector.

Thanks to Sharp’s Aquos technology however they were able to create this 33mp image. You can check out more about the display in the full article over at DigInfo TV by clicking the link above, where you will also find a video of the display on show.

Are you looking forward to seeing TVs like this in the future? Let us know in the comments below.

2011 is a big year for the smartphone industry, as they have now started to embrace the 3D revolution, which you can clearly see with the Sprint HTC Evo 3D...

2011 is a big year for the smartphone industry, as they have now started to embrace the 3D revolution, which you can clearly see with the Sprint HTC Evo 3D and Sharp’s Aquos SH-12C 3D. Both aim to do the same thing, but which of the two is the better option – lets see how they compare against each other?

Firstly the Aquos SH-12C 3D has a 4.2-inch 3D touchscreen, the Evo 3D has a 4.3-inch QHD display. The former has an 8-megapixel camera and a 1.4GHz Qualcomm processor, the latter a 5MP and a 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon dual-core CPU. Things do not look that good for HTC’s latest effort so far.

Sharps new 3D smartphone is just 14mm thick and offers the user an HDMI port, and has a better resolution than the Nintendo DS, but not as good as the iPhone 4 – although it is very close. Apart from the HTC EVO 3D, the closet rival in way of crisp screen technology is the Xperia Arc, which as we reported also comes in pink.

So on paper we can clearly see that Sharp’s effort looks to be a clear winner, but it would be nice to see a few benchtests. There is one issue though; the Aquos SH-12C 3D is only set for release in Japan, with no ideas of a worldwide release. If Sharp did offer their latest handset to the US and European market, then they would certainly shake things up a little.

Would you like to see the Sharp Aquos SH-12C 3D released worldwide to take on the HTC EVO 3D?

Update: I seemed to have made an error, for some reason I thought that they were both dual-core processors, when in fact the Aquos only has a single core. On reflection the HTC Evo 3D seems to have more to offer.

Today’s high-end smartphone market tends to be dominated by Apple, HTC, Motorola, Samsung and RIM offerings, however we have recently found out about the upcoming Sharp Aquos SH-12C, this smartphone boasts some pretty impressive specs.

The Sharp Aquos SH-12C features a 4.2-inch glasses-free 3D QHD display which supports a resolution of 540×960, a 1.4GHz Qualcomm MSM8255 processor, 512MB of RAM, 2GB of ROM, dual 8 MP cameras which take 3D photos and capture 3D videos. Also it boasts HSDPA connectivity, Bluetooth and we presume there will be WiFi connectivity thrown in to. All of these specs are brought together by Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

The smartphone is pretty aesthetically pleasing also, it has a white design and a slate form-factor, the rear of the device is dominated by the dual cameras and flash, whilst on the front there is a massive display and three Android buttons. You can see a couple of photos showing the front and back of the SH-12C over at BGR.

Currently there is no sign of a U.S. or UK release, however we can confirm that the Japanese carrier Docomo will offer this impressive handset from Friday 20th May (a weeks time from today). Would you like to see the Aquos SH-12C available in your area?

We told you yesterday that Apple had added to its suppliers for the iPad 2 screen parts. Today it seems the company has been busy organizing suppliers for other key components for its iPhone, as reports are suggesting that Apple have chosen Toshiba to supply iPhone displays.

An article over at Reuters is reporting that Apple will be investing in its production of small displays, and have dropped Sharp for that work in the process. Sharp saw its shares drop as much as 2.7 percent following the rumors of the deal, but later released a statement saying that there was no truth in the rumor.

The original report came from Nikkan Kogyo who declined to comment after Sharp released their statement on the matter. The report also said that Apple had been in talks with both companies about, investing 100 billion yen a piece in production lines for small LCD screens. These displays are thought to be for a future version of the iPhone.

It is thought Apple has been looking to spread the risk of supplies for components of their devices following the recent natural disaster in Japan.
