When it comes to booking a flight it can become a bit overwhelming sometimes, which is due to the amount of different services available to the traveler. What service should you trust and use?

This job has become a whole lot simpler thanks to the new Google flight search engine, which has been launched today, and was helped by technology Google bought for around three quarters of a billion dollars, from ITA Software.

When you run flight related queries like “flights from LAX”, or “flights from NYC”, you should see an airplane logo and the word flights on the left of a Google search. Clicking this will show you the google.com/flights page, and results for the flights you may want to book.

At the time of writing we cannot see this link on the left of related searches, but have seen the results directly above the normal search results. By visiting the google.com/flights page you can go directly to the new service, and experience it for yourself.

Just like most of Google’s products, the service works extremely fast and looks simple. There are plans to expand the service in the coming weeks for a better range of plane tickets, but at this time you should only see flights for a limited amount of U.S. cities.

For a visual look at how the new flight search works you should see the official video below this article. Let us know what you think of Google’s flight search tool, and if you plan to use it when shopping for tickets?

In an effort to make the search engine a greater tool, Google has come up with Instant Previews, which is designed to make searching the Internet much faster. The new feature was announced yesterday and although it seems a little similar to what they launched a couple of months back – it is different.

Google Instant was great in the way where you could see the search results as you type, Google Instant Previews improves on that by offering you a look at a snapshot of the website from the result. There are a number of advantages to this, such as looking to see if it is a website with no content – we have all come across those.

To give you an idea on how it all works the Official Google Blog has all the details for you, and PC World has a few example snapshots for you to view. The new feature is now live, and in some cases you might have to enable it; once you do you will see a magnifying glass next to the Google result on the search page.

When I first tried Google Instant Previews it took a few seconds to show up the preview, but now the results are almost instant. Do you think that this is something you would use, or is it just another gimmick?

Google Instant Search has certainly made things much easier when searching for something, but there are certain words that have been banned. Some words that come from the adult industry have certainly made that blacklist, while others will come as a surprise, but what are they?

I decided to do a few searches myself just to see what happens; you get so far and Google stops predicting what it thinks you are searching for. This will not please a huge percentage of those who use Google, but this has got to be one of the better parental filters out there.

For those of you who have some time on their hands, then you will be pleased to know that 2600.com has the complete list of words that Google has banned. Please remember not to let your children read the list, as they contain some strong words.

Just for a bit of fun why don’t you go to Google’s homepage and see what words have been banned; you might get lucky and come up with something that should not be there. Here are some tips on Google Instant Search.

Today is the 12th birthday of search engine giant Google, so you may have noticed their special doodle on the homepage. The company started back in 1998 and in those 12 years, has gone on to beat the competition out of the water.

Google does not only creates Doodles for themselves; there has been a number of other designs over the years. Here is a history of how it all started.

The two founders of Google done something that not many people could do, they had a dream and brought it to fruition with a lot of hard work. Most of us can remember where we were 12 years ago; can you tell us where you will be in the next twelve? That is certainly an interesting question, one that Garett Rogers from ZDnet came up with.

Google has gone on to do much more than just being a search engine, they have tried some things and they have not worked out that well, but Android OS is a complete success. They have tried their hand at social media services, but most of what they do has not taken off.

Social networking is a huge deal and is something that Google needs to get in on; you only have to look at the success of Facebook to understand what I am going on about.

Where will you be in 12 years?

There are two things that you will notice on the Google homepage today, the new Doodle to celebrate the search engine’s 12th birthday, and the $10M to the 5 Project 10^100 winners message below the search bar. Upon further investigation, Google has now announced the five winners of its Project 10 to the 100.

150,000 ideas were submitted to Google by thousands of people from over 150 countries, and were taken down to just 16. The five winners of the project took a year to get to this stage. Google will now give $10 million to these organizations in the hope of finding solution for global challenges.

The first idea is to make educational content free online. The Khan Academy has been given $2 million to offer free education by use of over 1,600 teaching videos.

The second idea to win is to enhance the education of science and engineering. This project has been given $3 million for promoting not only science but math as well; with robotics programs being a main part of that.

For more details on these winners visit Project 10 to the 100.
