Some interesting news to bring you now, as it has been revealed that the ‘Samsung Slate’ – previously thought to be the second Windows Phone 7 handset, isn’t an official product from Samsung at all.

According to this report from Pocket-Lint, the handset that Microsoft showed at MIX10 this week, is actually a Samsung i8910HD, which has been modified by Microsoft themselves, to which they called it the ‘Slate’.

It’s all a bit confusing, dont you think? Here is what an official spokesperson from Samsung said: “The launch was from Microsoft, not Samsung, and they used the i8910HD to demo Windows 7.”

Microsoft are yet to comment on this, we will keep you updated when we know more. Give us your reaction to the news.

Microsoft has just announced and unveiled the Samsung Slate – the second handset that will run on their new Windows Phone 7 Series operating system.

As reported from Pocket-Lint, the Samsung Slate follows the LG Panther into the world of Windows Phone 7, but it is understood that Samsung’s handset will ditch the QWERTY keyboard in favor of a virtual one, besides other juicy specs.

An official spec sheet has yet to be released by Microsoft, but we do know the Samsung Slate will feature a capacitive touchscreen, 3 hardware buttons, a 5 megapixel camera with flash (at least), accelerometer, agps, DirectX 9 accelerated GPU, 256MB RAM and either a ARMv7 Cortex or Scorpion CPU.

It is understood that the primary function of the Samsung Slate will be its excellent camera, so maybe the 5 megapixel spec mentioned above, may even turn out to be higher than that – we’ll keep you updated.

Let us know your thoughts on the phone.
