If you are a employee of Microsoft, you are probably enjoying life right now, as we’re hearing that Microsoft has now started to fulfill their initial promise of handing out a free Windows Phone 7 handset to every employee.

As reported from BGR, this has been confirmed over in Holland, as 1,200 happy employees are now starting to receive a free Samsung Omnia 7 handset. This generous tactic by Microsoft is obviously going to cost them a fair bit, but if employees needed an extra incentive to worker harder, then surely a brand new handset is the perfect Christmas treat.

We don’t have word on employees in other regions receiving their handsets yet, but you can imagine that Microsoft will be delivering devices all throughout the week now that the Netherlands is completed. The Omina 7 is not the only handset on offer don’t forget, as there are as many as 10 Windows Phone 7 handsets which launched in the US, although it remains to be seen whether Microsoft offer all of them or not.

If you are a Microsoft employee, let us know if you have received your free WP7 handset, and tell us which model you got.

If you are one of those lucky ones who have picked up either the Samsung Focus or Samsung Omnia 7 devices that are part of the new Windows Phone 7 range, you might have noticed that Tethering was not included on the device. But we have a solution to your problem.

If you do a bit of research, you will find that a couple of websites on the internet have found a way to “hack” the device to turn your WP7 handset into a fully working and functional USB tethering handset.

The device will be used as a 3G modem using Microsoft’s new Windows Phone 7 platform, and to do this you will need to dial ##634# which will bring you to a diagnostics menu.

From the list, you can then select one of three options, the middle one being “Modem, Tethered Call.” After selecting this you will be presented with a few more prompts to which you will then be able to use and set up USB tethering.

Even though this feature does not come as standard, it is easily achieved by doing as we have stated above. If you do go through this process and manage to get it working, leave us comment in the section below to let us know how you get on. You could even leave a spot of help for anyone else who needs guidance if you are feeling helpful.

Have you tried USB tethering on the Focus or Omnia 7 yet? How did you get on?

For those of you who missed Microsoft’s live unveiling of their collection of upcoming Windows Phone 7 handsets, you’ll be pleased to know that we have found an excellent summary which will provide you with all the key info of the 10 WP7 handsets.

The guys over at BGR have compiled a brief summary of each Windows Phone 7 handset, listing detailed specs, availability and a unique reason on why you should pick up that particular handset.

Just to refresh, the 10 handsets running Windows Phone 7 handsets are as follows: HTC HD7, HTC Mozart, HTC Trophy, HTC Surround, HTC Pro, LG Optimus 7, LG Quantam, Samsung Omnia 7, Samsung Focus and the Dell Venue Pro.

Each handset has a distinct advantage over other WP7 handsets, with the HTC Mozart packing the best spec camera (8MP) and the Dell Venue Pro having a Gorilla Glass display screen for examples.

Which handset suits you best though? We have a feeling that the HTC Pro will be pretty popular, considering the fact that it is the only WP7 launch handset to come with a slide-out QWERTY keyboard.

Check out BGR’s guide then let us know which WP7 device interests you the most.

Orange launched their HD voice service at the beginning of September, if you check out our previous article and watch the embedded video you will see just how much of an improvement HD Voice is when compared to standard voice.

At the moment there are only half a dozen or so devices available from Orange which are HD Voice compliant, however it is thought pretty much all high-end smartphones will support this in the future in the future, I’m sure that Microsoft will be happy to hear that their Windows Phone 7 devices offers this functionality.

Do you care about HD Voice?

After all the different handsets which were announced at the Windows Phone 7 event yesterday, we were only given details of the specs of the handsets. But are now starting to see some pricing information becoming available.

In the UK the Samsung Omnia 7 will be on T-Mobile, Three, and Orange. From October 21st Orange will give you an Omnia 7 free if you sign up to a 24 month contract at £40 per month. Three have the device for free on contracts starting at £35 per month. This could save you £120 compared to Orange.

T-Mobile also has the Samsung Omnia 7 from the same date, and it is again free if you agree to a two year contract costing £35 per month. It won’t be long before customers can start to see what WP7 is like with a shiny new smartphone.

Following on from the official unveiling of Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 handsets, we now have a very useful comparison chart for you to take a look at, letting you see how each phone and it’s respective specs compares.

The chart comes to you courtesy of Engadget, who have compiled a list of all the officially announced devices so far. This includes handsets from the likes of HTC, Samsung, LG and also Dell.

Considering the way things are going in the smartphone market at the moment, it is no surprise to see HTC top of the list with five Windows Phone 7 devices. Samsung has two coming out along with LG, while Dell has the Lightning don’t forget, and ASUS has one due out soon, but this is still unofficial as of yet.

In terms of specs, which one do you think stands out the most? If you are looking for a Windows Phone 7 handset with the best camera, then you should opt for the HTC Mozart, as according to the list, this is the only handset which will come equipped with an 8 megapixel sensor, as the others all come with a 5MP sensor.

The 1Ghz Qualcomm MSM8250 spec is practically the same on all WP7 handsets, so the real choices you’ll have to make, will be on storage speed, display screen size and of course price.

If you are planning to get a WP7 device over the next few weeks, you’ll definitely need to refer to this chart. Check it out over at Engadget and let us know what you think.

The Samsung Omnia 7 was just one of the ten handsets that forms part of Windows Phone 7, which were all unveiled today during the Microsoft event. We have already discussed this new WP7 smartphone in detail, but we have found a video comparison of the size of the Omnia 7 compared to the Apple iPhone 4.

You can see right away that the Samsung handset is not only taller but wider as well. However, it is a little harder to see which of the two handsets is the slimmest; this is because the fourth-generation iPhone has sharper edges compared to the rounded edges of the Omnia 7.

The one shocking thing that we noticed from the Engadget video was how similar the home button was to that of the iPhone, but instead of a square on the button the Samsung has the Windows logo.

The hardware on the upcoming Samsung Omnia 7 is a lot like the Galaxy S, so can expect good performance. The new Windows Phone 7 OS certainly helps to complement the hardware, which you can clearly see by watching the video.

Do you think that the Samsung Omnia 7 WP7 handset looks as good as any Galaxy S smartphone?

We continue our coverage for all Windows Phone 7 devices unveiled today, and now focus on what seems to be one of the picks of the bunch — the Samsung Omnia 7, formally the i8700.

First appearing from the wild at the beginning of September, the Omnia 7 looks very impressive and is the only Super AMOLED device in Microsoft’s launch of 9 other phones.

Although Engadget say that there is no “distinct advantage” when comparing to other Windows Phone 7 devices, it certainly does put its own stamp on the brand.

Samsung’s Omnia 7 is set to launch on Orange, SFR, Movistar and T-Mobile in Europe and comes equipped with a lightning-fast Snapdragon processor, a 5-megapixel camera and flash, and access to Xbox LOVE and Zune directly from the phone. More information can be found in the press release.

As always, Engadget have provided us with a gallery which shows off the phone to its full potential. I must say that it looks very impressive indeed.

Remember to check out our overview of the other Samsung device unveiled by Microsoft today — the Samsung Focus as well as the other phones that have been revealed at launch.

What do you think of the Samsung Omnia 7?
