There seems a never ending stream of new Android handsets being released to the market, but the most recently announced device the Galaxy Nexus will be running an all new version of Android. We have already given you details of the Ice Cream Sandwich OS, and now we can tell you that Vodafone has confirmed it is to stock the Galaxy Nexus with a release date soon.

The carrier has confirmed to TechRadar it will be offering the new handset to its customers, which will come with a 1.2GHz dual-core processor and an impressive 4.65-inch display that has 720p resolution. It may not be the most powerful handset out there, but it will still be at the top end of the carrier’s range of handsets.

While no pricing has been revealed for the new handset yet, you can still expect to pay at least £30 per month linked to a 24 month contract with the Vodafone. There has been no word yet on a release date for the Nexus, but it is believed to arrive towards the start of next month.

Vodafone hasn’t said if it’s to be the only carrier in the UK to stock the handset, but it was the only one to carry the Nexus One and Nexus S when they first became available. But with the latest device in the Nexus range it is believed Google won’t be locking the handset to specific carriers in the markets it gets released too.

The biggest appeal to this new handset is that it will come with the latest Android operating system, which adds some great looking features.

Away from all the news and speculation about the next iPhone, those of us who are more concerned with our Android devices the Google Nexus Prime is high on the wish lists. The handset is expected to be unveiled a week today but currently not too much is known about the device. Today though some Nexus Prime specs and live images leak.

GSM Arena has got hold of an exclusive image of the Nexus Prime that also confirms some important specifications for the upcoming device. The display is confirmed as an HD Super AMOLED at 720p measuring 4.6-inches in size.

The image shows a pixel density of more than 320ppi, and is thought the handset will have the usual 1280 x 720 pixel screen. It is also not currently known if the Samsung Nexus Prime display will be using the PenTile matrix. The display does look impressive though with the letters on the screen being really clear.

Meanwhile the new handset will also have no physical keys on the front, but as the Nexus Prime will be running Android Ice Cream Sandwich it won’t need any for UI navigation. The Google Nexus Prime looks to be a serious rival to whatever Apple announces later today at its press event. Android fans really do have some serious devices in the pipeline.

The company will be showcasing the device at next week’s Samsung Mobile Unpacked 2011 event at CITA, and by then we will have the details about the impressive looking device. Earlier today we told you the device could be getting Google Chrome, as rumors are suggesting the browser is finally coming to Android.

Do you like what you know of the Nexus Prime so far?

By now you would have noticed that rumors surrounding the Samsung Nexus (aka Droid) Prime would have now started to increase, which is due to the reason that it is likely to be released on Verizon next month, along with the iPhone 5 as well. Back on September 9th we were treated to a photo and a spec list of what we can expect. Now we do not know if this was the real deal, but from what we have seen over the past week, we cannot see why not.

The most interesting thing that we learned happened not so long ago, and that was the fact that one guy claimed to have actually seen the device, but was said to have taken place after the Verizon Developer Conference. We listed some of the features, and that oversized home button was there also. However, we cannot be certain if it will make it to the final build version.

What we found most interesting is the weight of the handset, as we recently reported that it will not be as light as a Samsung Galaxy S II, but will be more like a Droid – as we know that those devices always weigh more than many other Android handsets on the market. Again, we cannot say if this is true, but it would make sense, as the S2 as it is commonly known is considered to be a little too light and fragile for some consumers.

Another rumor that we need to look at is the Android OS, it was first assumed that the Prime would come with Ice Cream Sandwich installed, but it now looks as though we will have to wait. This means that it will come with Gingerbread for now, due to the fact that the latest Nexus phone could be with us in October, and the next version of Android will not be released until the end of this year.

Having said that, Google will want the ICS to be released at the same time as a big phone launch, this either means bringing the new OS forward, or delaying the Prime until a later date. When do you expect to see the Samsung Nexus Prime, and what mobile operating system will be running things?

Back on September 9, 2011 a possible design for the Samsung Nexus Prime was outed, and just a few days ago this was followed up with what specs we can expect, as well as a possible release date for another Sammy handset, the Galaxy S III. Now we have something that you might want to know, a 4Chan user has had some hands-on time with the upcoming Prime handset, we just hope that what they say is genuine.

The first thing that needs to be addressed is the weight issue, it seems as if it is more like a Droid with its weighty feel instead of a Galaxy S II. This is a good thing for most, as there is no doubt that the S2 (common name) was considered a little too fragile. Whenever you think Droid you think sturdy, and that is just what you will get with the Prime – if in fact this is the final design model.

We do expect a few changes here and there, as according to Android and Me, this was a beta model; having said that, it looks very much like a final retail version. The Prime looks to have some very impressive specs, such as a 1.5GHz processor and 1GB of RAM, but it pales in comparison to the Galaxy S III. You should expect some decent battery performance, as Samsung has packed a 2000 mAh battery – again we cannot be certain if this will stay in the final version.

The Nexus Prime seems to be full of positives, take the performance that too seems to be very impressive as well. Normally when a beta model is tested there is one or two issues, such as lag, but the lucky reviewer said that the Prime was “blazingly fast,” which could have something to do with it running Ice Cream Sandwich.

It does make you wonder if Samsung has paid off 4Chan, as the whole hands-on experience was very positive – just maybe it truly is an amazing phone?

Earlier on we gave you some exciting information on possible specs for the Samsung Galaxy S III smartphone, but now we have further details on the Samsung Nexus Prime handset, thought to be releasing some time before Christmas.

This information is definitely worth sharing, as although it’s still not anything official from either Samsung or Google, the details have come from the same source that has apparently leaked hardware specs for the Samsung Galaxy S III as we mentioned above.

First things first as we may be hearing of a potential name change for the handset which has commonly been referred to as the Google or Samsung Nexus Prime. Instead of this, consumers may find that the final name for the handset could turn out to be the Samsung Galaxy Nexus.

Aside from the 1.5Ghz dual-core processor that we already know about, the Samsung rep responsible for the info claims that the device will be packed with a 2000mAh battery, as well as a new metal body for the phone which is thought to be around 8.8mm thick.

The source also reiterates that Verizon will be the exclusive carrier for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus and that the performance is apparently meant to be ‘blazingly fast’ – and so it should be with a 1.5Ghz Exynos processor running the show.

Surely we are just weeks way now from an official announcement from Samsung and Verizon – how longer are they going to keep us waiting? Mind you, the Droid Bionic has only just been released on Verizon, so maybe Big Red are holding out for a few more batch of sales before they start advertising their next big smartphone launch, pretty logical from their point of view when you think about it.

How interested are you in the Galaxy Nexus, do you like the name change? The idea of a metal body with a Nexus S-like design is certainly appealing so we hope this part is true.

There is still much confusion over the official release date for the Samsung Nexus Prime, but one guy has managed to get close up with the device. You may wonder what this means for you and I; well the one that was shown to him looks as though there could be an earlier Verizon release than we first thought. This all happened after the Big Red Developer conference had wrapped up at Las Vegas.

During that conference there was no sign of said phone, so you can imagine how shocked The Droid Guy’s source was when he was shown what he now believes is the Nexus Prime or Droid Prime as Verizon looks to be calling the device. So why do we now think that this is Verizon’s version and that they will be getting it sooner?

Well the first thing is down to its size, it’s slightly taller and fatter than what we have seen previously, which means that it has to be packing an LTE radio. Other features of the handset shown included an 8-megapixel camera to the rear and 2-megapixel up front. Three other features included HDMI, MHL and NFC. One other feature that was clear to see was the ‘Home’ button, which some of our readers believe to be a bad move for Samsung.

However, one of our readers did point out all that is out there is a developers unit, so should not be on the final version – although this might not be the case with the unit that was shown to the lucky guy from that Developer’s Conference.

If we are to believe what was said in that little secret meeting between the two men in Las Vegas, then the Nexus ‘Droid’ Prime will be released in October or early November. This means that what we reported a few days back ‘Could’ be wrong, although those dates have never been made official. Whatever happens, this phone should be in your hands in time for you to search out some bargains during Black Friday or the busy Holiday Season.

With all the recent commotion surrounding the never-ending release adventure for the iPhone 5, it’s has been easy to forget that Android owners also have an exciting ‘unreleased’ device to look forward to – of course we’re talking about the elusive Nexus Prime.

It has been a while since we last talked about Google’s Nexus Prime, or the Nexus 4G, another name which you may be familiar with if you have been keeping a close eye on developments on the handset so far.

However, a fresh picture has been discovered online and with it a series of hardware specifications that will be equipped in the Nexus Prime. The picture has been captured over at a suspect looking retailer listing for the rumored device, which is available to view at your pleasure over at the Hantec website. Strangely, though there is no actual link to pre-order or buy the device, and the picture included is definitely open to debate on its authenticity.

Below is a larger picture which we found courtesy of Phandroid, which gives you a much better look at a ‘potential’ design for the Nexus Prime.

As you can see, the obvious highlight of this model is the fact that there are no physical hardware or capacitive buttons, meaning that navigation on the Nexus Prime could be handled solely on the rumored 4.5-inch touchscreen – which would certainly raise an eyebrow or two with potential suitors. You can also see a silver trim around the edges of the device, leading to some suggestions that this could be fake since it looks remarkably like a device that HTC would build – not Samsung.

The one pleasing factor about all of this though, is that Google recently confirmed at the Dreamforce conference that Ice Cream Sandwich is landing within the next few months, so obviously a device will be coming alongside it and it’s probably going to be the Nexus Prime. We have a feeling that the puzzle will soon be solved as rumors continue to creep out over the next few weeks.

Let us know your thoughts on the possible design for the Nexus Prime, and also whether you are holding off from buying an iPhone 5 to wait for a Prime.

Consumers in the US have finally found out when they will be able to get their hands on the illustrious Samsung Galaxy S II. After weeks of speculation and rumors carriers have been picked and release dates have been set, but there are alternatives to the Samsung Galaxy S II.

Customers on the Verizon network can’t even purchase the Galaxy S II, but luckily there is some worthy Android alternatives in the pipeline. A few weeks ago the Motorola Droid HD made a brief appearance in the wild and what we know of the device so far is pretty impressive. It will be running Android Gingerbread and comes with a huge 4.5-inch screen packing 1280 x 720 resolutions.

It is thought the device will have an 8-megapixel camera that seems the norm recently. The device is also thought to be around the same thickness as the Galaxy S II that continues the recent trend of slim smartphones. Another handset is the upcoming HTC Holiday that is also thought to sport a 4.5-inch display.

The Holiday is thought to be powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core Qualcomm MSM8660 processor, and is likely to have Android Gingerbread on board. This will also have an 8-megapixel shooter with 1GB of RAM, and is believed to be coming to the AT&T network.

Another handset from the HTC camp is the Vigor that is rumored to be landing on Verizon. Some have said the device will be the replacement for the aging Thunderbolt and will have a 4.3-inch display and 8-megapixel camera.

It has been rumored that Verizon passed up on the Samsung Galaxy S II in favor of the Nexus Prime. The device is thought to be the first handset to be running Android Ice Cream Sandwich, and powered by a 1.5GHz dual-core processor. Release time is rumored to be some time in October around the same time the iPhone 5 is set to be released.

To further complicate things was the announcement of the Samsung Galaxy Note earlier today. The monster handset will come with a massive 5.3-inch display and powered by a 1.4GHz dual-core processor. Currently no time frame is known for release but it is believed to be coming sometime this fall.

Are you still considering getting the Samsung Galaxy S II?
