Many new smartphones are being released that are really thin now, which always gives you the worry that any little bump or scrape will render the handset useless. There are various cases that will offer your device with some good protection, but we now have news of the rugged Samsung Galaxy Xcover UK pre-orders begin.

Some online retailers in the UK have put the new version of the Samsung Galaxy up for consumers to pre-order, and have suggested a December release for the device. The device that will come running Android 2.3 was first revealed back in August according to T3. The handset is being offered to consumers for a SIM free price of £224.39.

This will become the first more tougher smartphone that will come running Google’s 2.3 version of the Android Gingerbread software. The device has a 3.65 inch touchscreen display that has a tempered glass unit equipped with a scratch resistant coating.

Samsung’s new handset will go up against Motorola’s Defy, which was recently in the headlines for misleading consumers via its ad campaign for the device. The Galaxy Xcover is claimed can go to a depth of one meter underwater for a maximum of thirty minutes. It is also protected against damage from dust, and features an 800 MHz processor with a three megapixel camera complete with a LED flash.

The handset is basically tougher version of the original Galaxy S handset that has sold so well for the company. Whether this one appeals to many consumers remains to be seen, but it may be ideal if you worry about damaging your handset.

Does the Samsung Galaxy Xcover appeal to you?
