During the summer months we had the ongoing legal spat between Apple and Samsung constantly crabbing the headlines. Apple managed to win an injunction against Samsung selling its Galaxy Tab in Germany and Australia. Today we can tell you that the Samsung Galaxy Tab10.1 gets a makeover in an attempt to swerve Apple’s German ban.

Now the company has been busy and made some changes and the new version is finally heading over to Germany according to TechRadar. The company has made the changes to the features of the device so that it no longer infringes Apple’s patents.

It was in August that Apple got a ban upheld on the Galaxy Tab 10.1, which to begin with was European wide. This was overturned on appeal but remained in place in Germany with the device disappearing from shelves as well as missing out on being showcased at IFA 2011.

The new device is now called the Galaxy Tab 10.1N, and Samsung have revealed they have made only two changes to the design to get round patent infringements. These are alterations to the bezel and the placement of the speaker on the tablet.

From the images of the new design it can be seen there is now more metal on show on the front of the tablet PC, so the bezel is not all black. Apple will be watching closely at the design but makes you wonder if Samsung is admitting it was in the wrong regarding Apple’s patent claims.

Do you think Samsung copied the iPad?

The ongoing court battle between Apple and Samsung has now taken another twist following a court ruling. This means there will be no Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 for Australian consumers in the immediate future.

The device has been banned in the country after a court granted a temporary injunction on the sale of the Galaxy Tab 10.1. Apple is claiming that Samsung has copied its products, and means Samsung can’t offer the device to consumers in its current form until the situation is resolved. According to The Guardian this could come from another ruling or if the two companies come to an agreement.

Samsung were hoping to launch the product in the market in time for Christmas, and follows similar rulings in Germany and The Netherlands. Samsung recently tried to offer Apple a deal that would allow the release of the device in Australia, which the company quickly turned down.

The Korean company is one of Apple’s biggest suppliers for components for various products, but the relationship is looking more strained by the day. The full details from the court ruling are set to be revealed tomorrow, but Federal court justice Annabelle Bennett, granted the order as she thought Apple had every chance of winning its trial against Samsung.

Samsung said they were disappointed with the ruling, and are seeking legal advice regarding its options. The company added it would continue proceedings against Apple to get its products out to its customers, and remained confident it could prove Apple was breaking its patents.

Who do you think will eventually win the legal battles between the two companies?

The much publicized legal wrangling between Apple and Samsung continues, as the two companies do battle through the courts with claims and counter claims. Samsung recently offered a deal to Apple in an attempt to get its Galaxy Tab 10.1 out to Australian consumers. But there is no end in sight as Apple reject Samsung’s olive branch.

Last week Samsung offered to “help ensure an expedited court hearing” on condition that Apple would allow the company to launch the Galaxy 10.1 in Australia. Apple did admit the deal would help the company in some ways, but according to AppleInsider they rejected the offer.

Apple’s attorney said “It is one we don’t accept and there is no surprise. The main reason we are here is to prevent the launch (of the Galaxy 10.1) and maintain the status quo”. A Samsung lawyer told the court a settlement will not be achieved considering how far things have now advanced.

Samsung has agreed to remove two features of its device that allegedly violate Apple’s patents, and leaves the two electronic giants fighting over one remaining patent dispute for the tablet PC. Sales of the Galaxy 10.1 were delayed by Samsung in the country until a judge has given his ruling on the matter later this week.

The dispute between the companies has been ongoing now since April after Apple accused Samsung of copying the look and feel of its devices. It has been revealed that only last year Steve Jobs tried to talk with Samsung to resolve matters, but after these broke down lawyers were called in.

Do you think Samsung has a case to answer?

Usually the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 has made the news recently because of the ongoing legal dispute between Apple and Samsung. The device has been well received by many and is seen as the nearest rival to the iPad 2. Today we have an article telling you how to get a free Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 at retailer Best Buy.

The Android tablet market hasn’t so far seen the same sort of success that the iPad has, and to shift some of the stock which could be lying around Best Buy and Samsung may have a solution. The Wall Street Journal is reporting that from Sunday anyone who buys a 46-inch 3D Samsung HDTV for $1499.99 will also get the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1.

This promotion will run for a week and Best Buy are claiming it is a promotion to encourage consumers to get a 3DTV. Many believe such deals are a good idea especially as Apple’s rivals are struggling to compete. Recently HP has slashed the price of its TouchPad Tablet by $100 soon after it was launched, and have now announced they are pulling out of the market altogether.

Best Buy has reportedly only shifted 25,000 of the 270,000 TouchPad’s it has in stock, and other companies such as RIM and Motorola are having a tough time shifting stock. This compares to the 28.7 million iPads that Apple has shifted since April 2010.

Although you have to take into account there is a similar 3DTV from LG that is priced at $999.99 on the retailer’s website. This may lead to some going out to take up the offer, but the 3DTV market isn’t exactly setting the world on fire. But if you are in the market for a Samsung 3DTV and want to spend that much, you will get the Galaxy Tab as a nice bonus.

Do you think the Best Buy deal is a good one?

Almost a week ago we told you that a judge in a German court had upheld complaints by Apple, and banned sales of Samsungs latest tablet PC. Today we can tell you that Samsung rejoice with the news of the ban on the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 is to be lifted.

A spokesman for the Dusseldorf District Court Peter Schutz has confirmed that Samsung can now resume sales of its iPad rival throughout Europe, except Germany. According to an article on Cnet the ruling has come because the German court doesn’t have the power to ban sales of the Galaxy Tab outside of Germany.

The removal of the temporary injunction will be in effect until the two sides meet again in court later this month on the 25th. Apple and Samsung have been making claims against each over for a few months now, with Apple claiming the Galaxy Tab copied technology from the iPad.

There have been reports recently that allegedly Apple doctored images of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, for the original court case in Germany last week. Webwereld studied the two images and concluded the iPad 2 and Galaxy Tab 10.1 looked almost identical in length.

But in reality the Galaxy Tab is in fact longer and more rectangular than the iPad 2. Also the Samsung tablet has an aspect ratio of 1.46, but the image used by Apple showed it to have 1.36 that is closer to the iPads 1.30. There are many that feel Apple have wrongly accused some of its competitors from copying its technology.

At the moment Apple rule the tablet market, and despite numerous new Android tablets being released it’s the iPad that most consumers want. There has even been speculation that the company could release another version of the iPad this year, but recent rumors are now suggesting otherwise.

Some may wonder if Apple despite its massive success and dominance, are starting to get seriously worried about the competition. What do you think? Does Samsung have a case to answer?

The continuing legal spat between Apple and Samsung continues with the news that the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 has been blocked by Apple. Now the company has won a preliminary injunction via a German court that bans the device in European countries except The Netherlands.

The ban follows claims from Apple that Samsung is copying technology used in the iPad, and according to The Telegraph the Galaxy Tab 10.1 will have to be removed from sale across the continent. According to some retailers in the UK the device has sold well since it was launched last week. The judge from the Regional Court of Dusseldorf backed Apple’s claims that Samsung had copied elements of the iPad 2.

Samsung can appeal against the ruling, but it won’t be heard for about four weeks with the injunction remaining in force. Any appeal will also be heard by the same judge that brought the original ruling. Analyst Florian Muller has said that Apple have also got a separate lawsuit ongoing in The Netherlands.

Samsung has been seen as Apple’s main rival in the tablet PC market especially with the Galaxy Tab 10.1. They first had the original 7-inch version, but the new 10.1 model has a similar screen size to the iPad, and is also slightly thinner.

According to an Apple spokesman “Samsungs latest products look a lot like the iPhone and iPad, from the shape of the hardware to the user interface and even the packaging”. Samsung has said its “disappointed” with the decision, and the company wasn’t given any notice of the ruling so couldn’t defend itself at the court.

The battle between Apple and various companies in patent dispute’s looks to run and run. But surely in this day and age big companies are professional enough not to knowingly copy another company’s products? What do you think does Samsung have a case to answer?

Samsung today announced the next major update for their popular Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 device, with a software update for their TouchWiz UX software. But much like the original launch of the tablet back in June, the only place where you will be able to get your hands on it is in NYC. At first anyway.

Yes, that’s right. Samsung will be primarily offering this new major software update to those who join the official unveiling on Wednesday, August 3 from 11am. The Samsung Experience will take place at The Shops at Columbus Circle, Third Floor where you will finally get a taste of the new fully-customizable Samsung TouchWiz UX software that comes with Live Panel and Mini Apps services.

But as this is a major software update, Samsung are also offering a completely overhauled Samsung Media Hub user interface, Amazon Music Cloud Player, Amazon Kindle & Words with Friends applications, and Enterprise Mobile solutions.

The whole Samsung Experience event that is showcasing this new TouchWiz UX software will start at 11am, where the press will be the first to see the new software in action during the Media News conference that is taking place. Lunch will be provided to those in attendance while you sit and watch the Onsite Galaxy Tab 10.1 Software Updates take over your tablet.

But if you are not a media mogul, don’t fret as just a few hours later at 1pm, the Samsung Experience will open up to the general public where any member who wishes to upgrade the software on their Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, can sit and watch their new experience be side-loaded onto their device.

If you aren’t able to make it to the event yourself, Engadget will be on hand to give you all the details when the event comes around. Remember, Wednesday August 3 is when it is taking place.

If you cast your mind back, Samsung pulled the same stunt when they unenvied the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, in which at noon, at Best Buy, NYC Union Square, the first 200 customers also received a matching leather pouch to store their new ray of sunshine in.

As the NYC release was on June 8 of this year, by June 16 we were already aware that a new updated version of TouchWiz UX was coming to the Samsung Galaxy Tab in a future upgrade, and that time is now.

Are you looking forward to the new TouchWiz UX software? Or are you happy with what you already have?

For those of you thinking about getting a new tablet on Verizon, your choice has just got a little harder, but a little broader as Verizon announced today that the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 4G LTE will be launching on July 28.

The tablet will become the second most expensive tablet in the Verizon arsenal, and will be the first time that this model has been connected with a specific carrier.

If you are one of those people that like to mix ‘n’ match the color of your tablets with that of other gadgets in your household, you will be glad to know that this release will come in several forms. Two will come with the white-backed casing, which is similar to what we have seen in the standard edition, and two with the grey backing. Both come priced at $529.99 for a 16GB model, whereas the 32GB model will set you back $629.99.

If we compare this to the most expensive tablet from Verizon, there is $100 difference between the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 4G LTE and the Apple iPad 2 32GB edition which currently costs $729, but one hindrance is that the iPad 2 still runs on Verizon’s 3G network.

As for specs, Samsung really have taken to this Galaxy S name of theirs, and have really built something that impresses just about everyone that touches it. The 16GB built-in memory model comes with 1GB DDR2 RAM, a 10.1″ EXGA 1280×800 pixel resolution TFT LCD screen (as the name suggests), a 3.5mm headphone jack, 3.0 megapixel camera on the back, and a 2.0-megapixel camera on the front, Gyroscope, Accelerometer, Digital Compass, and Ambient Light sensor.

Couple all this up with an extraordinarily thin and light design; just coming in at 10.09 x 6.81 x 0.34 (256.2 x 172.9 x 8.6 mm) and weighing 595g (20.99 oz) and a 1GHz NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual-core processor, then you have an awesome bit of kit on your hands. You can check out more about the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 LTE via SlashGear.

As for software, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 LTE will be shipped with Android Honeycomb 3.1 with a sprinkle of Samsung’s homebrew TouchWiz software. What we mean by just a sprinkle is that it does not come with the full TouchWiz UX 4.0 software, instead Samsung has decided to get the hardware out there in the open and offer the custom user interface to owners of the device at a later date as an optional upgrade.

Finishing off with the data plans, and as this is the new Galaxy Tab 10.1, you are looking at $30 per month for 2GB, $50 for 5GB and $80 for 10GB.

Still interested? Then check it out on the online Verizon store now.

If you have purchased the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 LTE model from Verizon, what are your experiences with it so far?

We recently gave you news of a revamped Samsung 7-inch Galaxy Tab rumored to be arriving later in the year. But the device which could really take on the iPad is the larger of the Galaxy Tab stable. Now we have news that the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 will be available across the US starting tomorrow.

Early reviews of the device have been pretty favorable so far but it has only been available in New York’s Union Square Best Buy. Now Samsung have announced the device will be available nationwide from tomorrow according to an article on BGR by Zach Epstein.

Pricing starts at $499 for the 16GB version, or $599 for the 32GB model, and as these are Wi-Fi only so don’t require a contract. The 10.1 Galaxy Tab has the latest version of Android 3.1 Honeycomb, Google’s tablet OS.

For those of you are thinking of getting your hands on one, it has a HD display with 1280 x 800 resolution, 1GHz dual-core processor, 3-megapixel camera on the back, and a 2-megapixel sitting on the front. The device is probably the nearest thing so far to challenge the iPad 2.

Will you be getting the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1?

The tablet PC market is growing at a fast rate with new devices coming out all the time. Since Apple first released the iPad manufacturers have decided to bring out their own models. Samsung first brought out the original Galaxy Tab last year but have now released their latest offering. Now today we have news of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and first impressions of the device.

Preorders for the device went live yesterday in the US, and some actually managed to pick one up if they went to Best Buy in Union Square New York. Joe Wilcox of betanews managed to get hold of one and has reviewed the new tablet PC.

Straight out of the box the new Galaxy Tab failed to impress, with the dimensions found to be too long and narrow. The Samsung has a more rectangular shape compared to the iPad 2, and it felt top heavy even when held in both hands. This may not be a problem to some users as it is just a personal issue.

Setup was pretty straight forward, and you are asked to connect to a Wi-Fi network and to input date and time. If you already have a Google account set up is even simpler to do and syncs to all your data stored with the account.

The 10.1 screen was found to be bright and responsive, and using the interface the resolution was pleasing to the eye. Using the Honeycomb OS was found to be intuitive and gave a very good first impression. The device was found to be fast especially app installation, and unlike iOS the Android apps scaled really well.

The browser was found to be extremely fast and responsive, and has real tab browsing like on a PC. Users can use Chrome sync which imports bookmarks in a very short space of time. Samsung have been making a lot of noise about the device having Flash, but the Galaxy Tab doesn’t come with it already installed. You have to go to the Android Market to download and to install.

When trying to watch video content Hulu was a no go as there isn’t an app for Android. When trying another site Syfy, a Flash video could be watched but only in a small window, unlike a full screen with a PC browser. The review was only a first impressions take on the device, but are you considering buying a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1?
