Samsung want to know more about the relevance of Apple’s Galaxy Nexus ban, and as expected they have appealed the decision by a US judge, which has not surprised fans considering this would cause a major problem for Samsung. Apple believes that the Galaxy Nexus is directly in conflict with patent 8,086,604, and as such is infringing on Apple’s patent that might relate to the iPhone 4S and Siri feature.

The actual patent covers a device that has a universal interface, which can retrieve information from a computer system, although this mainly covers filtering and search systems. You can see the full details for this patent via this article on uspto.gov. The filing date listed is 2000 and the requested ban by Apple has only just been granted, now appealed, which is thanks to the harm Apple feel the Galaxy Nexus could do in the short term.

You can see an abstract for patent 8,086,604 below, so have a read a let us know what you think about this patent and if you think Apple were right to demand a ban of the Galaxy Nexus. It’s worth noting that if the ban isn’t lifted with Samsung’s appeal things could get a lot worse, and there might be a ban on 25 smartphones in the United States, which include the Galaxy S3.

Samsung are promoting the Galaxy Nexus as the first handset to run Android 4.1, aka Jelly Bean, so a ban in the US is the worse thing that could happen to Samsung. You can read more about the Samsung appeal in this article, which talks about 7 grounds of appeal.

Some mobile consumers when choosing a new smartphone like to have the biggest storage capacity available. Our smartphones are used for many things these days’s besides just making calls so to have the extra memory can be important, and today mystery surrounds the Galaxy Nexus 32GB release.

If you are one of many who were hoping to get hold of the 32GB version of the Galaxy Nexus we may gave some bad news for you. When Samsung first announced the GSM version of the handset it was revealed there will be both 16GB and 32GB versions available. But as the Android Community is reporting online retailer Expansys USA are claiming that Samsung has canceled the device.

There could be a chance the device has simply been delayed but things are not looking too promising. With many handsets this wouldn’t be a problem but with the Galaxy Nexus memory is not expandable as there is no microSD input. The Verizon Wireless version of the smartphone does come with 32GB of storage, but the GSM version and the rest of the world only get the 16GB model currently.

An official comment from Expansys stated that they had been notified that Samsung “had dropped the 32GB Galaxy Nexus from production”. Some won’t be worried about getting the bigger version of the Galaxy Version, but others may have been waiting for the bigger version to release. The device has even now disappeared from the retailers website altogether.

There is a chance that Samsung may be saving stock of the 32GB Galaxy Nexus for the various carriers to offer to their customers before releasing unlocked versions to consumers. Online UK retailer Clove is showing the device with the first batch of stock arriving at the end of this month, while Amazon in the UK and US doesn’t list the 32GB version.

Were you hoping to get the 32GB version of the Galaxy Nexus?

Earlier this month an ad for the CES event in Las Vegas emerged that seemed to indicate the Samsung Galaxy Nexus was inbound to the Sprint network, and then a few days later a sign up page for the device appeared on the carrier’s website. Now it seems the Sprint Galaxy Nexus release is closer as a Google signup page opens.

Sprint customers can now use the signup page on Google to register for more information about the handset, even though it’s been known the device is coming to the network for a few weeks now. As Android Central is reporting there will be many subscribers on the network interested in getting the Android Ice Cream running device.

There is a good chance the Galaxy Nexus will be the carriers first 4G LTE device, which will be coupled with 32GB of storage. Some believe the device will have some different features compared to the Verizon variant. These include a higher processor speed with a possible 1.5GHz unit, but this came from an early advertisement that could have easily been a misprint.

When the device was at the CES show it was made difficult for anyone to get on camera an image of the rear of the handset, which has led to speculation that the Sprint version may have a larger battery. There is no release date for the device so far, but hopefully we may get some news at next month’s Mobile World Congress.

Are you interested in the Galaxy Nexus on Sprint?

Despite Samsung providing a lot of components for some of Apple’s products, and looking to expand facilities to increase this further, the legal spats between the two companies continue to escalate. Today we have news that the Samsung Galaxy Nexus release spurs Apple into more action against its rival.

Apple has launched a legal challenge to the Galaxy Nexus as the legal battle between the two companies continues over into this year. According to an article over at TechRadar lawyers for the company have taken to a German court, and have accused Samsung of copying the iOS slide to unlock feature with the Android ICS running device.

This decision by Apple is looking to focus on both its hardware and software rivals. The handset is Samsung’s latest flagship device, and was the first handset to come running the latest Google Android operating system.

Only last Friday a court in the same country threw out claims by Samsung that the iPhone had broken its patents regarding 3G technology. According to Florian Mueller, a patent analyst, it looks like Samsung is still determined to fight against Apple.

Meanwhile the handset in question has been pretty well received since it was first released. Besides the new Android operating system it comes with a 1.2GHz dual-core processor. This is coupled with the lovely 4.65-inch HD Super AMOLED display that has 1280 x 720 resolution, and 1GB of RAM.

Do you think that Samsung has a case to answer or Apple just getting worried about their rival?

Earlier today we told you about the issues some users had experienced when trying to update their Asus Transformer Prime to Android Ice Cream Sandwich. But now there has been more problems reported so we are now investigating the Galaxy Nexus and Transformer Prime reboot issue.

It seems those users lucky enough to upgrade their Transformer Prime are then met with another problem. According to Android Authority some users are reporting that their device will suddenly reboot without any warning. This is the same problem that some owners of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus have been complaining about.

Only yesterday we told you about the handset rebooting without any warning, and the problem seemed to get worse as time goes on. Some owners have commented that they managed to change their Transformer Prime at the retailer where it was purchased, or with Asus themselves.

Trouble is the problem looks more likely to be a software problem with owners saying it only started after upgrading to Android 4.0, so changing the device probably won’t cure it. At the time of writing there is a quickly swelling thread over at the XDA forums, which currently stands at 78 pages.

Some users are complaining that their Transformer Prime rebooted twice in forty minutes, and some are complaining that certain retailers are not offering an exchange or returns after seven days of opening the device. It seems pretty certain that the issue is a software problem and not just coincidence, and the companies involved will hopefully be working around the clock to offer a permanent solution.

Has your Galaxy Nexus or Transformer Prime been rebooting itself?

When the Samsung Galaxy Nexus first released in the UK many owners reported of a strange issue with the sound, and the fact it would lower itself all on its own. This was eventually fixed via a software update ahead of the US release of the handset. Today we have news that the Galaxy Nexus likes to reboot itself for some users, so does your handset have similar issues?

The Galaxy Nexus has been pretty well received since it became available from users and reviewers alike, but the world’s first Android Ice Cream Sandwich running device seems to have developed a strange problem. An article over at BGR is reporting that numerous owners of the device are reporting a bug where the handset will randomly reboot itself.

At the moment the exact cause of the issue is unknown with the largest amount of reports coming from users with the GSM version of the smartphone. It is thought though that some owners of the CDMA version of the Galaxy Nexus are also experiencing the issue.

It is not just a few devices being hit by the problem and is pretty widespread, and happens while users are streaming music, playing games, and even when the device is sitting in standby. Users are reporting that the problem gets worse as time goes on as well. Google has made it known that it is aware of the issue and is currently looking into it.

The problem could cause some embarrassment for both Google and Samsung considering it’s the platforms flagship operating system, and comes after some users reported 4G LTE connection issues with the handset. Hopefully there will be a solution offered soon to ease owner’s frustrations.

Do you have a Galaxy Nexus and experienced the issue?

Back in December Verizon released the Galaxy Nexus to its customers as the first device running Android Ice Cream Sandwich. For a time last year it was believed that Verizon would be the only carrier in the US to offer the handset, but later doubts about this were raised. Now we can tell you that a Sprint Galaxy Nexus release date could be about to become a reality.

An article over at Cnet is reporting that an ad was accidentally published for the CES 2012 show, which showed off the Galaxy Nexus and running on Sprints 4G LTE network. The advert also highlighted the 4G LTE feature to avoid confusion about Sprints current 4G WiMax service.

Sprint themselves declined to make any comment about the handset being made available to its customers. Sprint offering the Galaxy Nexus or any other 4G LTE device fits in with what Sprint Nextel CEO, Dan Hesse, recently said. He claimed the company was set to launch its 4G LTE network in ten cities in the first half of 2012, which will surely mean handsets coming as well.

Having the Galaxy Nexus as one of the first devices for the network makes sense as it has received many good reviews since its launch. Sprint could be about to announce the Galaxy Nexus at the CES 2012 event that starts next week, and could be as early as next Monday.

If Sprint were to offer the handset it would help keep the carrier up with rivals AT&T and Verizon, who are launching many new 4G LTE devices in the coming months. Would you like to see the Galaxy Nexus on Sprint?

If you purchased the Verizon Galaxy Nexus due to the fact that the super-fast LTE network would deliver an unparalleled Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich experience you may have noticed...

If you purchased the Verizon Galaxy Nexus due to the fact that the super-fast LTE network would deliver an unparalleled Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich experience you may have noticed some issues with signal strength, well it turns out that this may be affecting more people than we first thought.

The Verizon support team on Twitter has admitted that they are currently investigating a Galaxy Nexus signal strength problem following multiple reports of signal-related issues. Sadly we don’t know exactly when a fix will arrive, but at least we know that a software update is being developed.

Someone who has been affected by the signal strength issue has been posting updates on the situation on Twitter, you can see his feed here. He claims that -93 dBa is as good as it gets for him and he often only has 2 bars of signal, in fact 3 bars have only flashed up once and he has never seen 4 bars. At first you would be forgiven for thinking that he lives in a low-signal area, but Verizon has told him that he is in range of two different towers – he lives in Roanoke, Virginia.

If you are pretty clued up in terms of cellphone technology you may find a recent AnandTech article pretty interesting, it is titled “Investigating the Galaxy Nexus LTE Signal Issue”. What’s interesting is that a photo of the Droid Charge side-by-side with the Galaxy Nexus (both connected to Verizon’s LTE network) shows that they connect at roughly 107-108 dBm, however the Droid Charge’s signal-strength indicator shows this as 4 out of 5 bars, whilst the Galaxy Nexus’ signal-strength indicator shows this as very low 4G signal. Could this mean that some issues which are being reported are simply the result of a more accurate signal reading? It sure looks that way….

It will be interesting to see how much of a change the upcoming Verizon Galaxy Nexus update will make, for now let us know if you are disappointed with your Galaxy Nexus’ signal strength in the comments section below. Perhaps you live in Roanoke, if so, what are your speeds like?

Earlier today we told you about the online orders for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus finally going live. This followed the news a few days ago that the handset would finally become available in the US for consumers today. Now we can tell you that the Galaxy Nexus release brings a big discount for the handset from LetsTalk.

After Verizon finally confirmed the launch details for the Galaxy Nexus, and the pricing for the first 4G LTE smartphone running Android Ice Cream Sandwich. For consumers taking a new two year contract it will cost $299.99, and while it’s an impressive device it is still a lot of money to pay out. Now though according to BGR, mobile retailer LetsTalk are offering the device for the great price of $154.99 with a new 24 month contract.

The price of the handset from LetsTalk is $229.99 but a special $75 coupon is available from the retailers Facebook page. To get this just visit the page here and click onto the ‘Verizon Deals’ link in the sidebar to see the coupon. This brings the cost down to $154.99 with a brand new contract, but existing subscribers who want to upgrade will only have to pay a $20 premium with a $174.99 total.

It is not known how long this offer will run for but is a good way to get Androids new operating system at a lower price. There are likely to be other new desirable handsets shown off in the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show, which starts on January 10th.

Are you thinking of getting the Galaxy Nexus?

A couple of days ago we reported that the Galaxy Nexus had been reportedly delayed due to some issues to the handsets LTE compatibility. Now we have a new report of a possible Samsung Galaxy Nexus US release date.

The handset was thought to have been launching just yesterday but was apparently canceled by Verizon. Now according to the Android Community who have been doing some digging, and have been told by a Verizon reseller that the handset could finally launch in the country next Thursday, December 15th.

Another anonymous source has also stated the Galaxy Nexus could be launched on the same date. Verizon customer support was also contacted and they confirmed the device was set to release on the 9th before being changed at the last minute. The customer support representative would not reveal or didn’t have a new date for the handset though.

After contacting another second-party retailer who has a chain of stores, it was discovered that there was units of the LTE Galaxy Nexus in stock but none could be sold due to restrictions from Verizon. The manager of the store was asked about the release date so contacted Verizon. They then said the store will get authorization to sell the device at the start of business on December 15th.

Obviously this is not a confirmed official date from Verizon but it is certainly looking a good bet for next week. So far there has never been an official date from Verizon except that it would be available before the end the year, after UK residents have had access to their version of the device for a few weeks now.
