Apple’s iPad has been a big success since it was first released and many different uses for the device are now used. But a novel idea is currently being trialed in the UK, and will allow you to watch the Premier League while you do the weekly grocery shop in Sainsbury’s.

The supermarket giant is currently testing a specially adapted shopping trolley in its Cromwell Road branch in Kensington, West London. If the trail proves to be a success it will roll out the service across the country according to The Telegraph.

These special trolleys have an iPad holder fitted to the top with speakers, and the front bumpers have a sensor fitted that will alert shoppers if they get too close to another person or object. To make sure you don’t run out of battery on your iPad there is an onboard battery that also has a self charging solar panel.

This trial is in conjunction with TV broadcaster Sky who developed the trolleys to showcase its Sky Go service. This allows subscribers to watch live sport or news via their mobile devices including the iPad.

Ian Burgess from Setwo Designs, the company that designed the trolleys said “Being able to create a gadget that is practical yet innovative is often a challenge but I think with the trolley we’ve cracked it”. He added the special trolley can also be used in the traditional way, but also stream Sky content easily.

Sainsbury’s thinks the idea will have a commercial impact as it may make shoppers consider visiting the store. Brett Hart from Sainsbury said the company is always looking to make its customers lives easier, which is one reason why they are looking at the new trolleys.

Would the idea of these special trolleys make you want to go to a particular supermarket more?

We told you recently how much Asda was going to offer the Nintendo 3DS for, now Sainsbury has joined the price battle by making the device available for pre-order.

The offer that Sainsbury’s is giving is quite a good one, if you pre-order you will get the device for £199.99. Not only is that cheaper than Asda, you will also get 1000 Nectar points thrown in as well. According to an article on TechRadar, Sainsbury’s games buyer – Gurdeep Hunjan – said, ‘secure one now and save some cash’.

You can pre-order a 3DS online here, or in one of the company’s 300 larger stores, it is available in black or aqua blue. The games are more expensive though in Sainsbury compared to Asda. Sainsbury are selling them for £34.99, while over at Asda they are priced at £29.91.

The console is not due for release until March 25th, but other retailers should start revealing what they will be selling the 3DS for soon. It can’t be long before the likes of Tesco and Morrison’s join the fray.

With only a few hours to go for the launch of Call of Duty: Black Ops, supermarket giant Asda has declared it their biggest games launch of all time. But will Asda and the other retailers have enough stock to meet demand?

James Batchelor of MCV is reporting that Asda says it has unprecedented stock level for the imminent launch, and far beats any video game released so far. Asda’s games buyer – Alastair Islip – posted on the company’s Aisle Spy blog that “We are putting more stock into store than we have ever done before on a gaming launch, so hopefully no-one will be disappointed.”

He added “Clearly we can make no guarantees but it has been our mission to make sure that we don’t go off sale on COD at launch.” The supermarket has decorated several of their stores entertainment departments with COD-branded display units, and are offering Black Ops for £36.97.

We reported recently that rival retailer Sainsbury are offering the game for only £27.97 if you spend £30 or more instore, with the standalone price of £37.97. Tesco are offering the game for £39.99.

Let us know what the stock levels where like at your local store.

Following on from our recent post that Sainsburys and Morrisons will have the cheapest deals on COD Black Ops, we now have an update for you – and its not good news. We had assumed that the new game would sell for £24.99 in Sainsburys; we can now tell you that the price will actually be £27.97.

However, there is a catch, you will need to spend £30 or more in store to benefit from the deal. This offer cannot be used in conjunction when purchasing fuel, phone top ups, cigarettes etc. This update comes from a reader who works for the commercial side of the UK supermarket.

So it seems that the original source of the post got the details wrong. We thought that we would have a look at Sainsburys online store for more details, but it seems as if the deal is in store only. The price on their website is a staggering £39.99 – that’s one of the most expensive I have seen it.

We do not know whether to trust the Morrisons price now either, especially as the source has already got on part of their details wrong? Will you still buy Call of Duty: Black Ops from Sainsburys, or will you wait to see if another store has a deal where you do not need to spend a certain amount of money? So has the price war for the game finally begun?

A Coffee machine located in a Sainsbury’s supermarket has recently exploded, this resulted in six people being injured, however none of the injuries are said to be too serious.

The explosion happened at the Sainsbury’s supermarket located in the Kingsmead Shopping Centre in Hampshire, we are now hearing that Rushmoor Borough Council is investigating the incident.

Some of the injured were staff, whilst others were customers, apparently one 23-year-old woman was taken to a nearby hospital with head, eye and arm injuries.

The store has now reopened, however the cafe inside the store is close until a full investigation has been carried out, so far it looks as if a ruptured pipe was the cause of the explosion, therefore it is very unlikely that this will happen again.

Have you had any major problems with a coffee machine in the past, although we doubt they could be as serious as this? Let us know in the comments.
