Lately all we have been hearing about as far as Motorola is concerned, is their super smartphone, the Droid Bionic. The device has been written about for months and has proven to be very elusive but now has a release date and can be expected to grace our market next month. We have also just found out that this is not the only Motorola handset we can expect next month as the company will also launch the Fire smartphone.

Many analysts have considered the Fire to be Motorola’s answer to RIM’s BlackBerry. It is of course an Android OS device and according to the manufacturers it is aimed at a specific market that is those users who prefer having a QWERTY keypad as well as a touchscreen. It is also a lower budget smartphone for those that cannot afford the top of the range devices.

The main specs that we know of so far are; an impressive 1420mAh battery capable of 30 hours life when in standby and up to 8 hours of talk time, Motorola’s Switch user interface with work and play modes, Android 2.3 Gingerbread, a 3 megapixel rear-facing camera, dual-band HSDPA, a microSD slot, Wi-Fi, a QWERTY keypad and a 2.8” QVGA touchscreen display.

According to the reports from The Inquirer Motorola Mobility’s UK Marketing Director, Victoria McManus has expressed the company’s excitement about adding to their UK smartphone range saying ‘The device’s stylish design and its exciting and versatile social media applications will wow younger, tech-loving users.’

Next month promises to be an exciting time for those looking to buy a new smartphone, as there are several high-end devices expected to release including the iPhone 5, HTC EVO 3D and the Droid Bionic.

What do you think of the Motorola Fire? Which phone will you be purchasing next month?

When it comes to the PlayBook we have brought you quite a lot of information including the release date video, the price and also how the specs compare to its main competitor the iPad. Now we are bringing you our thoughts on the future of RIM following the release of the PlayBook.

A question I had for RIM, is the PlayBook a glimpse of things to come? In other words, are we going to start seeing BlackBerry devices with high powered processors and other sized tablets? Kindly Mike Lazaridis has answered many of my questions in “Dive Into Mobile” conference where he started out with the PlayBook.

Mike said that the “BlackBerry Playbook Tablet OS is what we’re targeting for multi core products,” he also said “They’ve Focused on strategy for the next decade” which he believes is a multi core strategy. You can view some of the conference where Mike was actually answering some questions at the bottom of this article.

So it looks like the future for RIM is bright, and there will be better smartphones on the way and it also looks like there will be more tablets making their way onto the scene. With BlackBerry entering the market at this late stage what’s to say they can catch Apple up? The other thing to remember is that the iPad 2 will be on its way early on in 2011 as well. To read more about this head over to AllThingsDigital.

In my opinion this is a classic case of too little too late but I could be wrong. What do you think? Let us know in the comments below.

RIM has been very vocal in how they believe that the UK police force is saving a huge amount of money for using the BlackBerry platform. The Canadian company believes that the police force is saving more than £112 million each year by using these smartphones.

Tom Jowitt from eWeek said that Research In Motion came up with this figure by working out the savings for each officer, and then multiplying that by the total number of BlackBerry smartphones used by police officers in the UK.

Rory O’Neill from the UK division of RIM said that 1 in 6 officers in the UK now have a BlackBerry. The idea of using a BlackBerry is to cut down on the amount of time spent retrieving records, making it much easier while on the street.

These smartphones connect with the Police National Computer (PNC), allowing officers on the street full access to the information. They can even take a picture of when a crime is committed and then make a digital record of it.

Now that the PlayBook tablet has been announced, it is now thought that police forces could also adopt this technology – although not certain where on their uniform they will keep the device?
