We have some fresh details on the rumored iPad 3 tablet device to share with you now, as it has been reported that the device will be upgraded with a new display, capable of outputting twice the resolution quality seen on the current iPad.

Once again, the details have surfaced from deep with inside the iOS 5 beta, as images uploaded to Apple Insider confirm that the resolution of the new iPad will be boosted to 2048 x 1536 pixels, compared with the current resolution of 1024×768.

If the higher resolution is confirmed for the iPad 3, it will mean that the device will follow similar upgrade tactics that Apple used for the iPhone 4, by upgrading their display screen with the Retina display compared to the old one on the iPhone 3GS.

What we don’t know yet, is when the device will release, as speculation is still brewing that it could be out before the end of the 2011. Could we enter a scenario where Apple’s Fall event introduces a new iPhone, new iPod Touch, and a new iPad? If that’s the case, then it’s going to be a event to look forward to for sure. Don’t forget that iOS 5 is due out in September as well, so all in all it’s great news for Apple fans.

What are your thoughts on this? Are you looking forward to hearing details on the iPad 3, or is it all about the iPhone 5 for you?

Yesterday Jamie Pert mentioned that Sony Ericsson would announce their new Xperia Arc smartphone, and he was right. We already knew some of the specs, but did not know much about the new Reality Display. Well Engadget thought that they would give us some insight so thought that they would see how it compares to the Retina Display (which is rumored to be used on the PlayStation Phone as well) on the Apple iPhone 4 and the screen on the Motorola Droid X.

All three displays are very close in quality, but the Reality Display will certainly come into its own when watching videos etc, as Sony Ericsson has incorporated Bravia TV technology. It is said that colors and details will be greatly enhanced, but we will just have to take their word for it at the moment.

There are currently no videos offering a comparison between the three handsets, so you will just have to make do with three images instead. It does look as though the Retina Display on the iPhone 4 has the edge over Reality Display on the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc, as you can see pixels when you zoom in close on texts.

We have done a bit of searching on YouTube, and are glad to say that we have found a video of this new handset in action. The video, which we have embedded for you below focuses on the new Reality Display. We were very surprised at how much the Mobile BRAVIA Engine technology helps to improve the video image quality, but this is something that we have come to expect from Sony.

Speculation about the next generation of iPad is growing, and many people are looking for several improvements on the hardware when the device eventually becomes available next year. A front facing camera is amongst some of the rumored new features, but one new upgrade that could be difficult to have is a Retina display.

Fred Straker of The iPad Guide is reporting that according to calculations by Ryan Block, a 9.7 inch iPad screen would exceed the capabilities of current mobile device technology. With the iPhone 4 having a smaller screen, the 330 pixels per inch works well with it. The Retina display has 614,000 pixels at 960 x 640, and each pixel has to be rendered.

Processors to power the display graphics are the same in the iPhone 4 and the current iPad, and the iPad display has 786,432 pixels at 1024 x 768. To have a Retina display on the iPad would mean a massive number of pixels, which would mean the processing hardware would be overwhelmed. To achieve a Retina screen on the iPad it would need 2560 x 1920 = 4,915,200 pixels.

Compare that to the Apple 27-inch Cinema Display which has 2560 x 1440 = 3,686,400 pixels. Current technology just won’t be able to achieve that amount of pixels on a mobile device, but Apple have surprised us before and may have some super low power graphics processor up its sleeve.
