You may remember that after Modern Warfare 2 was released in late 2009 Activision and Infinity Ward had a fall out and this led to employees being “revealed of their duties” and even also kicked off some legal action over wrong dismissal, soon after all this happened ex Infinity Ward founders / employees revealed that they would in fact be setting up a new game development company called Respawn Entertainment and they would be releasing a summer blockbuster, since then we have not heard a great deal, however the official website has now launched and kicked off lots of excitement.

You can see the website for yourself here, we had a browse and what interested us the most was the fact that a blurry teaser screenshot (embedded below) has been added to the site’s ‘Games’ section, also if you check out the ‘Company’ section we can see that over 50 people are working for Respawn and they have name dropped lots of past projects that they have worked on.

Most of the guys over at Respawn Entertainment are game designers, software engineers, artists, animators, sound engineers and 3D artists, here are just some of the games which some of these people have worked on previously (we have highlighted some of the most impressive titles):Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Call of Duty 2, Call of Duty, Medal of Honor: Allied Assault, Medal of Honor: Airborne, Medal of Honor: European Assault, GoldenEye: Rogue Agent, StarCraft: Ghost, Vampire: The Masquerade, Call of Duty: World at War, Call of Duty 3, Call of Duty: Big Red One, SOCOM 2: U.S. Navy SEALs, Duke Nukem Forever, DOOM, RAGE, Aliens: Colonial Marines, Infinity Blade, Splode, Borderlands, Brothers in Arms: Hell’s Highway, Prey, Doom 3, 007 Nightfire, Empire Earth, Aeon Flux, BloodRayne 2, Killswitch, God of War 3 and God of War 2.

As you can see Respawn Entertainment’s employees have lots of previous experience to fall back on, and lots of experience in the first-person shooter market, we wonder whether Jason West and Vince Zapella plan to create a new FPS which will go head to head with the Call of Duty franchise which they once created, sound like a plan to us.

If you are intrigued about Respawn Entertainment’s first game as much as we are you may want to follow the company on Twitter (here), also this discussion speculates what this game will be and there are lots of neat ideas, many suggest that modern first-person shooters are not needed as so many developers are working on games like this, so perhaps a realistic WWII game would be better, do you have ideas about the game? If so, let us know in the comments section below.

Update: One thing which we can confirm is that Respawn’s first game will be coming to more than one platform!

Following on from the bombshell dropped this afternoon, in which we informed you about Respawn Entertainment, Vince Zampella and Jason West have been speaking in an interview tonight, in which they revealed that their first game will be a ‘big Summer blockbuster’.

Both guys were speaking to Eurogamer, shortly after the huge announcement today, giving us their thoughts on the future ahead, while also revealing what they thought about Activision’s latest comments over the ongoing lawsuit.

While they didn’t want to go into any specifics on the new game and state whether it would be similar to Modern Warfare 2 or not, Jason West did have this to say on the matter:

“It’s premature right now. We’re focused on getting the team. We know we want it to be a big summer blockbuster, we want it to be something our fans will really enjoy, but there’s nothing specific yet.”

Does he mean this Summer or next? Surely a huge game from the two of them won’t be ready in time for this Summer. Let us know your thoughts on this. The full interview is up at Eurogamer now.

Some breaking news to bring you now, as ex-Infinity Ward bosses Vince Zampella and Jason West have joined forces with EA to create a brand new studio called Respawn Entertainment.

As VG247 reports, EA has just issued the full press release confirming the news. Vince Zampella new role is to become the General Manager of Respawn Entertainment, while Jason West becomes President of the new company.

In a slight dig at Activision, Jason West had this to say on the news: “Now that the team is in control of the games and brands, we can ensure that the fans are treated as well as they deserve.”

Pretty exciting stuff. Imagine a title like this – ‘Modern Warfare 3, developed by Respawn Entertainment’. They would have to settle this lawsuit first, obviously.

Let us know your thoughts on the news. We’ll bring you more soon.
