Renault has a long history in Formula 1, and so have a great deal of knowledge with taking something so light and giving it a decent power to weight ratio. However, they took a completely different approach when creating the Renault Twizy, as it’s small, light and very slow – although very economical.

That being said, all that is about to change, the Renault Twizy specs are about to get a bit of a boost and will have the badge Renault Sport F1 on it, this is because it will draw upon many areas of F1 in order to make the Twizy a different beast.

The current powerplant with the standard Renault Twizy is a 17 horsepower electric motor, but the rear seat has been removed in this sportier model to make way for KERS, which will increase this to 97 horsepower. This is the same system they produce for their F1 teams.

That extra power will need better tires to help improve grip, and I’m sure you did not miss those Formula 2 Renault tires? To help reduce drag and give the Twizy an aggressive look are a front splitter and sidepods, along with a huge rear wing.

The top speed of this small beast is 68 mph, which is an increase of 15mph, but it’s how much quicker it gets there, as Autoblog reports that it can get to 60 miles per hour as fast as the Megane Renaultsport 265, which is around 5.8 seconds.

You will be able to see the Twizy Renault Sport F1 on show tomorrow and Sunday during the World Series by Renault.

Mercedes need to watch out because there is a new smart car in town and it goes by the name of the Renault Twizy. This two-seater battery powered marvel is set to add some personality to the roads next year with its ultra-compact and eccentric design. Today the company announced its price and specs for the mid-entry level trim, Color.

Weighing in at just 450kg, the Twizy Color is the newest addition to the range from Renault and sits between the top-entry level Technic and the entry-level Urban. It comes with either orange panels with black bodywork or white bodywork with a choice of orange, green or blue panels for the sides and roof. The glovebox and upholstery colors of the vehicle can also be specified.

It will be priced from £6,690 when it hits the UK in March next year, making it £450 cheaper than the Technic and just £260 more than the Urban. The EV comes without a battery however. From what we understand the batteries are rented separately every month on what appears to be similar to a mobile phone contract deal that lasts three years, at 4,500 miles-per-annum from £40.

The electric motors on the Colors have a torque of 57Nm, making the vehicle capable of speeds up to 50mph and a range of 60 miles off of a three and a half hour full charge. Standard models of these EVs will all be equipped with a battery consumption display and ‘econometer’ in the dashboard, Z.E. onboard computer, heated tinted windscreen, 3mcharging cable, two gloveboxes and 13” wheels. For an extra £350 color-coordinated alloy wheels can be fitted and for an extra £455 color-coordinated half-scissor doors can also be fitted. Check out Renault.com for more details.

What do you think of the new Renault Color?

Renault has been away from the Indian market for a while now, so finally nice to see them come back, and boy have they come back in style. India’s Renault Fluence is a new premium sedan that will be available in both petrol and diesel. Here we will be looking at not only the price, but also the sales strategy as well. We expect that this car will be targeting the Hyundai Verna.

The price for the diesel model is Rs 12.99 lakh and 14.40 lakh for the petrol model. It is not very often that you find a diesel cheaper than a petrol model, but it does happen occasionally. Renault India has said that they are ready for the new push in India and they already have a head start, as they know what the consumers want.

The petrol version of the Renault Fluence comes with a 2-liter engine and returns 13.4 kmpl, whereas the diesel has a 1.5-liter powerplant and delivers 21.84 kmpl. The sedan comes with a number of features for your comfort, but if that does not prove enough then you can always choose the many number of upgrades.

Livemint says that Renault will be going all out in India this time round; as they are to launch seven new models this includes the Fluence. This is a long-term commitment, as the French carmaker will launch another two small cars that are specific to the Indian market over the next three to four years.

With the future of automobile heading in the electric direction, talks from worrying owners about where to re-charge have been the main issues as there is a distinct lack of EV chargers for electric cars compared the amount of gas pumps.

It could be years before we see a major transition between the amounts of EVs to gas engine cars therefore probably even longer before EV chargers become as popular as regular gas pumps. This is probably why Renault has come up with assurance.

The French car manufacturers have promised that if your EV battery dies while on your journey, they will ‘get you home’ by charging your dead battery for you in the meantime providing you with a loan car.

As the article at Autocar explains the policy is aimed at those that lack a lot of EV charging stations and is only available to those that genuinely ran out of juice due to uncontrollable circumstances such as unexpected traffic and extreme weather.

Does this new guarantee from Renault offer enough reassurance for you to want to get an EV? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

The 2010 Paris Motor Show is now well under way and a number of cars have already been unveiled, such as the Lamborghini Sesto Elemento Concept, and the Kia Pop Concept. Sticking with the small vehicle theme is the Renault Twizy, which is a little like a scooter but with increased safety.

The Twizy was shown only in design at last years show, so is nice to see a production model of the concept vehicle. Unlike a scooter, the Renault Twizy can carry two occupants, which they have to sit in tandem as if they were on a bike.

According to Autocar, the new Twizy has a 20bhp electric motor offers a top speed of 47mph, which is certainly faster than most scooters on the road.

Renault claims that the EV is good for 60 miles making it perfect for those who have to commute to the city – just make certain that you do not live more than 60 miles return journey. The cost of the Twizy is expected to be around £6000.
