The 2013 car recalls just keep coming, and today we have to report that both Chrysler and VW have announced recalls. The former only involves 34 models, whereas the latter is for 91,000 units.

First up we have the 2013 Ram 1500 recall for Canada only. The reason for this is because in some cases the coolant will not flow how it should, due to a sticky bypass valve, which goes to the heater core. There is a fear that this could stop heat getting to your windshield while driving in frosty conditions, which could reduce your visibility and could in some cases cause you to crash.

You will need to take your 2013 Ram 1500 to your nearest dealer and have them inspect it for you, and if there is a problem with the coolant bypass valve they will replace it for you. They will also update the software by reprogramming the powertrain control module.

Next up we have the Volkswagen recall, which involves 91,000 models in Japan, although there is a fear this could extend to other countries. The reason we say this is because China had to recall 384,181 vehicles for similar issues. The reason for the VW recall is because of potential gearbox problems caused by hot and cold weather conditions.

Another cause for the gearbox issue is due to the extreme stop-and-go traffic along with high pollution in Asian countries, so maybe this recall will be isolated to these regions? Having said that, all the blame cannot be put on the conditions, as a recent report says that there has been a long-standing issue with the direct shift gearbox (DSG) transmission in Volkswagen vehicles.

General Motors has done a pretty decent job of getting themselves out of the black hole they were in, and the popularity of the upcoming 2014 Corvette Stingray will play an even greater part in their resurgence later this year. However, there could be a little blip if the U.S. safety regulators find anything untoward with the 2005-2007 Corvette.

It seems that we could be looking at 100,000 Corvette 2005-2007 recalls in 2013 if the investigation involving recent complaints towards these vehicles hold up. According to <a href="http://www.detroitnews.com/article/20130510/AUTO0103/305100395/1148/auto01/U-S-officials-probe-Corvette-headlamp-problem"">The Detroit News there have been complaints that the headlights could suddenly stop working.

There have been 30 complaints in regards to the 2005 to 2007 Corvettes, where they have been driving along and all of a sudden they lost their low beam, and as you would expect is a serious safety issue. There was already one report where one owner was driving at night and his headlights went out and as he pulled to the side of the road, he almost hit a discarded tire.

That’s not the only incident, as other drivers have said that their fuse boxes would often get very hot, which is a reason why these lights go out in the first place. Not all 2005-2007 Corvette owners are affected by this intermittent issue, but the U.S. safety regulators will get down to the issue.

We will keep you up-to-date just in case the NHTSA issues a 2005-2007 Corvette recall.

Several days ago there was a recall issued for several Samsung top loader washing machines in Australia. There were 150,000 units affected by this recall, and as yet this does not affect the US or countries in Europe. In that time there has been a lot of confusion, so Samsung has felt the need to keep us informed of the latest news.

A couple of days ago there was an update for the Samsung washing machine recall, which helped to address some of the problems you might have been having. The day the 2013 washing machine recall was announced Samsung customer service advisers were inundated with calls, and so quickly overwhelmed them.

However, as a result Samsung has felt the need to increase their resources in the hope that you will be able to get through quicker, because we can understand how worried you must be.

These new resources will help you determine if you have an affected washing machine, because while there are six models in the recall list, not all of them will have this fault. Not only is there now more staff manning the customer call center, but Samsung has extended the opening hours as well.

If you are worried that you have an affected Samsung washing machine, then you need to call the Product Safety Hotline on 1800 239 655, which is now being manned 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Now Samsung Australia are showing this is how you need to handle a situation like this, because they understand their customers will be worried, and a quick response is paramount.

The six models affected by this latest Samsung washing machine recall are as follows: SW75V9WIP/XSA, SW65V9WIP/XSA, SW70SPWIP/XSA, SW80SPWIP/XSA, WA85GWGIP/XSA and the
WA85GWWIP/XSA.

Just a few days ago Subaru issued yet another recall for their troubled Forester, and we’re sad to say there is now a Nissan and Honda recall, which will affect some models of the 2013 Altima and the 2012-2013 Fit Sport

These Nissan and Honda recalls includes more than 140,000 vehicles in all for the US and Canada. Let’s look at the 2013 Nissan Altima recall first; there are 123,308 affected because of an issue with a pressure regulator, so there is a possibility that some of these vehicles could have an over or under-inflated spare tire.

Once you are notified you will be able to take your affected vehicle to your Nissan dealer, where they will be able to check the tire pressure for you. We’re sure not many of you will even bother to contact Nissan, as they would be able to resolve this Nissan Altima recall themselves. More details can be found here.

Next we have the 2012-2013 Honda Fit Sport recall, which involves 43,782 vehicles in the US and another 2,000 in Canada due to excessive yaw rates when the vehicle is under braking. The reason for this is because there’s an issue with the software that controls the Vehicle Stability Assist.

Honda says that it only affects certain Honda Fit Sport models fitted with a particular tire, although they have yet to inform us what tire this is. Honda will contact you during the middle of May to arrange to have the vehicles stability control software updated to rectify this issue. If you have any concerns then you might want to contact your local Honda dealer, or visit their website.

You can also run a Honda recall check by entering your Honda VIN here.

Just yesterday we looked at an impending recall of the Range Rover Evoque, even though Land Rover has yet to release any details about it, such as when the recalls will begin or the number of models affected. That’s more than we can say for another round of recalls for 2013, which is to affect more than 3.4 million cars.

Honda, Nissan, Mazda and Toyota are set to recall several of their models sold between 2000-2004. The Toyota recall is to effect 1.73 models, the Honda recall 1.13 million vehicles, Nissan around 500,000 and Mazda with about 45,000. The alarming thing is, all are being recalled due to the same air bag issue.

The defective part supplied by vehicle parts maker Takata Corp could in some could cause the airbag to deploy because of a faulty airbag inflator. You have been advised to contact your local dealer, although there’s always another way to see if your vehicle is affected by this recall.

You can run a Toyota recall VIN check here, where you will just need to enter your vehicle identification number. You can also enter your Honda VIN here. However, if you have a Nissan or Mazda, then you still need to contact your dealer.

The models affected by this airbag recall depends what part of the world you live in. In the UK, Toyota is to recall the Corolla and Yaris, Honda the Civic, CRV and Jazz, and Nissan the Almera, Navara, Patrol, Terrano II and the X-Trail.

For those of you in the US, then the models include the Corolla, Lexus SC Tundra from Toyota. The Civic, CR-V and Odyssey from Honda and the Infiniti FX, Infiniti QX4, Maxima Pathfinder and Sentra from Nissan.

While this will come as a blow to all four, it will be particularly tough for Toyota, as they have not had a great few years when it comes to recalls.

For some time now my friend has been telling me about issues he has had with his Range Rover Evoque going off unexpectedly. This problem has been ongoing for him since before Christmas, and after several phone calls to Land Rover, it seemed as though this was something he was going to have to put up with, just until they knew how to rectify the issue.

We have now learned that Land Rover is to issue a Range Rover Evoque recall, which is to resolve the alarm going off intermittently. However, because this news has just been passed on to our friend we do not have a date for this Evoque recall, but we believe it should be soon.

In the meantime we would advise you to call your local Land Rover dealer, as they currently have no information in regards to this recall. Although, when we I hear back from my friend I’ll include an update below.

Going back to the initial problem with the Evoque, the alarm will go off for no reason at all, and in some cases owners have been unable to lock the door after they undone the locks in order to deactivate the siren. We do know this is software related, and all Land Rover will need to do is force a software update, which should be done while you wait.

Have you received any correspondence from Land Rover in regards to this ongoing alarm issue?

Another week and we have to report a new recall, and this time for several Hyundai and Kia models. The list of recalls includes six Hyundai and six Kia models, all for the same issue, and that would be for a faulty brake switch.

In total there are 1.6 million Hyundai and Kia models being recalled, which as you would expect not only comes as a huge blow to the car manufactures, but also the owners of those affected vehicles. For those with a good memory you will remember the 700,000 Hyundai and Kia vehicles for the same braking issue back in 2009, well this is to be added to that ever-increasing number.

The 1 million Hyundai Sonata, Elantra, Genesis Coupe, Santa Fe, Tucson and the Veracruz models along with the 620,000 Kia Optima, Rondo, Sedona, Sorento, Soul and the Sportage models built from 2007 to 2011 have the same malfunctioning brake switch, which causes the brake lights not to illuminate, and as a result could lead to an accident. Just imagine driving at spend and applying your brakes, only for the driver behind you not being able to see you are slowing down?

There are several other issues as well, which includes the cruise control not being able to apply the brakes, as well as the push starter not turning the cars over. As a result the NHTSA has had to issue a recall for all 12 models below, which will begin in June. The fix is a simple one, just the removal and replacement of the faulty brake light switch.

If you are driving behind one of those vehicles mentioned below then you had best keep a little distance, otherwise you could rear-end them if you drive too close.

If you are the owner of a Nissan NV van from 2012 -2013 then you will be notified soon of an impending recall, with the affected vehicles being manufactured from December 20, 2012 to January 4, 2013. Okay, so we know what you are thinking, who would have one of these in the first place, but these vans are pretty good, even if they do look a bit on the ugly side.

The recalls are to begin on April 8, and is because of an issue with the transmission lever, well the selector plate lock clip to be more precise, because in some cases they have been installed incorrectly. If you do have an affected vehicle then there is a possibility the vibration from the road surface could cause the lever to select a different gear.

For example, if the plate does become lose you could be stationary and believe the transmission is on the park position, when you may be in a different gear, which could have serious consequences.

Thankfully Nissan is already on top of the situation and will replace the selector plate at no cost to you. If you have any questions in regards to this latest recall then you are asked to contact Nissan on 1-800-647-7261, or the NHTSA on 1-888-327-4236.

There seems to be some confusion as to a new Ford recall because Ford and the NHTSA has yet to notify us, while Edmunds seems to be the one on top of the news. If we are to believe this news then Ford is to recall the 2013 C-Max, Escape and Focus.

The reason for these recalls is due to an issue with a defective child door lock mechanism on the left rear, and the concern is that a child may be able to open the door while the vehicles are in motion. I’ve had this happen to me once before traveling at speed and the next moment my grandson had opened his door.

Luckily he was secured into his seat and because the wind speed kept the door from completely opening I was able to bring the car to a stop and make certain that the child safety lock was on this time – yes it was my fault and I now make certain that this is checked each time children are in my car.

Vehicles affected were built in November 2012 and will include around 5,650 units in the US. Ford has updated this news by sending out an email saying that they were not aware these vehicles had any issues, which does not fill you with confidence.

While there is a little to go on we would suggest you call either Ford on 866-436-7332 or the NHTSA at 888-327-4236. Ford has had several recalls recently, with the 2013 Escape being recalled twice before and an impeding recall for several other Ford and Mercury models.

We were told the other day that we should not be surprised when a new car recall is announced, with that in mind we now report that Honda and Acura has had to recall 183,000 2005 – 2006 models, with the list that includes the Acura MDX, RL and the Honda Pilot.

The reason behind the recall is due to an issue with the braking system and stability control. It appears that in some cases the VSA control units may have a damaged electric capacitor, which in some cases could apply the brakes at full force without the driver ever putting their foot on the brake pedal, or use unnecessary force when a driver does brake.

There are 101,000 Honda Pilot affected by this latest recall list, along with 60,000 Acura MDX and 21,000 Acura RL 2005 models. There are also a further 800 MDX 2006 CUV vehicles all with the same issues. However, we’re told that the Honda Pilot is under investigation for another issue, but this time to do with a bolt in the VGA system, which could have the same braking problems.

If you are concerned that your model may be included in this recall then you can check your Honda VIN or Acura VIN or phone (800) 999-1009 for Honda owners or (800) 382-2238 for those with an Acura.
