Yesterday we gave the news of a recall affecting over 300,000 Chrysler minivans, but just a day later we have a much bigger recall to tell you about. We have news of a new 2011 Honda recall, with over two million vehicles affected.

This is not the first recall by Honda this year, but it looks like being the biggest so far. The Wall Street Journal is reporting that the Japanese auto maker is recalling a total of 2.26 million vehicles in the US and China. The problem concerns automatic transmission on models such as the Accord, CR-V amongst others.

The recall is voluntary with around 1.5 million being recalled in the US to have the automatic transmission control software updated. There are around 760,515 vehicles due for recall in China. The vehicles affected in the US are some of the 2005 to 2010 four cylinder Accord, 2007 to 2010 CR-V, and 2005 to 2008 Element models.

Honda has said the recall came about due to problems with the transmission secondary shaft bearing, which can become damaged in the affected models if the transmission is quickly changed between any of the transmission drive positions. This could happen when owners were quickly changing between drive and reverse to try and get out of snow or mud.

There have been no reports of injuries or deaths because of the potential fault according to Honda. Honda have also said it will be recalling in China, 605,025 Accords made between July 2004 and October 2009, and also 151,489 Odyssey models manufactured between July 2004 and September 2009. Meanwhile 4,001 Spirior cars made between August and November 2009 are also being recalled, and no incidents have been reported in China either.

This latest recall is one of the biggest we have seen recently and makes you wonder how many more we are likely to see.

It’s that time of the month, when we once again take a look at what has been recalled. These July 2011 product recalls range from children’s gear to vehicles, with a few food products, such as meat thrown into the mix as well. Those that we will roundup today include the “Evergreen Fresh Sprouts, ” “Starbucks Bistro Box,” and also “Autos.” Some stand out more than others, but we have not come to accept these monthly occurrences as a part of life.

Let’s look first at the Evergreen Fresh Sprouts recall, which took place at the very beginning of the month due to a fear of Salmonella contamination. There was said to have been an outbreak of Salmonella, which affects young children and elderly more than healthy adults. For the latter the symptoms will be a high fever abdominal pain and vomiting. For more details on this please visit CDC.

Coffee chain Starbucks had to issue a recall of their Bistro Box on July 26, 2011, this was after their recent Chicken Wraps recall on July 19. Lawrenceville Flying Food Group produced the affected food products; Starbucks has since destroyed these food products. We have to stress that this only took place in Alabama and Georgia, so do not worry if you live in Seattle or New York. So far there has not been any reported illness due to the meat-based recall. Visit Starbucks for more information.

Product recalls that involves children were not as high as we have seen in recent months, but even one is too many in our eyes. Target had to issue a recall for the Circo Children’s Task Lamps, as there were concerns that they children could not only lacerate themselves, but there was also a fire risk as well. ConsumerReports has more on this.

Phil&Teds USA Inc had to issue a recall for their Explorer and Hammerhead Strollers, which was built from August 2010 to June 2011. There is an issue with the brake mechanism, which might fail and we cannot even imagine the harm that this could cause to children. If you fear that you are affected by this recall then please visit philandteds.com.

Fisher-Price Toys have not let us down, as they have had to issue yet another recall – although not on the same scale as we have seen in recent times. This latest one involves their Little People Builders’ Load ‘n Go Wagon built from July 2010 to 2011. There is a fear that the plastic handle could lacerate a child if he/she fell on it. You are advised to visit service.mattel.com for details on your free repair kit.

July has been a quiet month for car recalls, the most recent being the steering issue with the Volvo S80 built from March 8, 2006, to May 16, 2007. There are just 8,400 cars affected; you are advised to call Volvo on 1-201-768-7300. If you feel you might have a faulty model.

Ford also had to recall a number of their sedans and trucks, which we covered earlier this month. You can find more of the most recent car recalls here.

There was our list of just handful of the product recalls for the month of July, but worryingly there were many more.

Keeping up with product recalls is becoming a full time job, which is why we have to be selective about which ones we report. Yesterdays Beko fridge freezer recall was one that we had to inform our readers of, as there was a serious fire risk. So we were surprised to learn of the latest dishwasher recall due to another potential fire hazard. Those affected are Bosch, Neff and Siemens; if you are worried then we will give you details below of a model number checker.

You will need to act fast on this recall notice, as you do not want your dishwasher to catch on fire and risk destroying your home or even death. The cause of the fault is down to an electrical component, which in some cases could overheat and catch the appliance alight. This is pretty much the same as yesterdays recall in a way.

Consumers who are affected by this recall will be able to have their dishwasher repaired for free. The faulty appliances are those that were made from 1999 to 2005 and have batch numbers ranging from FD 7901 to FD 8504. If you have any other batch number, then you do not need to worry.

You can find the model or batch number in two places, either engraved on the top of the door or a sticker on the inner part of the door on the left. Once you have your number just see if the batch number falls in the range that we mentioned above. If your batch number comes up then you will need to enter your model number here to narrow down your dishwasher by model number; this will be the final check to see if you are affected by this latest recall.

From the same page you will be able to book when you want an engineer to come out and repair your dishwasher, If for some reason you have problems getting on the website, then you can call them on 0800 561 0082. Please remember that this should not put you off buying any of their newer dishwashers, or any of their other items come to that.

We still do not know why they have left it this long to learn that there is a fault with these Bosch, Neff and Siemens dishwashers, it’s like the Toyota Prius all over again.

With our recent article on the product recalls roundup for March 2011 this morning, it makes you wonder how consumer confidence is? This is certainly a subject that gets peoples backs up, and our readers have been making their voices heard – can you really blame them?

It has been highlighted that manufacturers in the US and the UK are closely regulated, but that is not the case in other countries. Certain countries are now unregulated, and the reason for this is due to high demand for cheaper costs. This is good for the consumer in one way, but very bad in others.

We have seen over the past few years that product recalls have been increasing, and there does not seem any end in sight. We have to wonder what can be done, regulations need to be made stronger, but there will always be those who will try to bend those rules.

Would you be prepared to pay more for your products if it meant that recalls would reduce in numbers? We are sure that this is one question that will be tough to answer.

With just a few days to go until we enter a new month, we thought that this would be the ideal time to look over the March 2011 Product Recalls, which as we can see from CPSC is very extensive. We can already see that there have been 45 recalls so far, and we still have a few more days left in the month.

So let us take a look at a few of what we believe were the worst in the product recalls for March 2011. The first and most worrying was the recall of the drop-side crib, which had an issue with the “Safety Peg”. It was reported that a second death of an infant sparked-off this latest recall of 985,000 units on March 22nd. More details on this can be found here.

The second recall that we believe to be bad for March was the LasKo Box Fans, with 4.8 million units being recalled due to a fire risk. The reason for the recall was because the fan had an electrical issue for those units sold from June 2002 to December 2005. More details from the CPSC website.

There were also two separate recalls for Baja dirt bikes and Suzuki ATVs. Both were due to a risk of fire, so had to be recalled March 9 and 10 respectively. For a full list of product for March 2011 visit the CPSC website.

Other recalls we have covered this month include Del Monte Cantaloupe due to a form of salmonella, as well as the Pioneer DJM-900nexus.

We have a worrying recall to bring to your attention today; around 4.8 million box fans are recalled because they may pose a fire risk.

We have some important news to bring to Toyota and Lexus owners now, as it has been confirmed once again, that the car giant has had to recall some of their models due to a recurring problem involving hazardous floor mats which could cause problems to drivers.

According to USA Today, the recall is one of the biggest, as Toyota are recalling around 2.1 million vehicles in the US, with various Lexus models also affected by the floor mat issue.

In case this is the first time you’ve heard about the problem with these floor mats, Toyota has been having ongoing problems with them due to the fact that they have the potential to jam against the accelerator pedal or interfere with pedal mechanisms. This is obviously a major issue if it occurs to drivers whilst on the road, so you can understand why Toyota has straight away announced this new setback.

Here are the important details that you need to be aware of. New Lexus models affected by the recall include the 2007 Lexus GS 300, GS 350 AWD Lexus, and Lexus models RX 330, RX 350, and RX 400h, the three of which were built between 2006 and 2007.

As for Toyota vehicles, the models included on the list are the 2006 Toyota Highlander and Highlander HV models and the Toyota RAV4 produced between 2006-2010.

What are your thoughts on the models mentioned above, is your motor unfortunately on the list? Over at Detroit News, they are reporting that Toyota has already been fined around $49 million for failing to announce various recalls on time. This latest recall is certainly going to cast Toyota in a bad light – most of you will probably feel this is justified.

We’ll bring you more details on the recall soon.

It was only last month we told you about the 2011 Ford Explorer winning truck of the year, but today we have some more worrying news to bring you. It has been announced that Ford will be recalling 1,658 Explorers in a voluntary move.

The recall affects Explorers fitted with manual recline second row seats, according to a report on Autoblog.com. Ford Explorers which were made between July 15 and December 13 2010 are affected, with the manual recliner mechanism having components that are “out of dimensional specification”.

The NHTSA says that in the event of an accident the components may not provide the required strength to protect passengers. Ford is expected to start the recall on February 14 and replace the seats at no charge. Owners can call Ford at 866-436-7332 or NHTSA’s vehicle safety hotline at 888-327-4236.

This comes as Ford officials have said they are to boost production for the US market by 13 percent according to a report on The Detroit News. Ford are also considering adding additional shifts as it tries to get sought after models such as the Explorer on to showroom floors. Ken Czubay vice president for Ford’s US marketing said “We are running flat out right now.”

We have another recall for you today, but this time it is for a motorcycle. Harley-Davidson is recalling certain 2011 Softail models, and some security system accessory kits.

The recall concerns a security system which may have a faulty body control module, according to a report on Motorcylcle.com. During manufacture the module may not have been sealed properly, and could allow water to get inside. This may then cause the engine to suddenly stall.

This issue was first spotted back in August of last year when a dealer reported a faulty BCM. The part was then inspected by Harley-Davidson who then found evidence of water intrusion. After pressure testing another eight units, two more were found to have the same problem.

The recall affects 6,964 2011 Softail models made between June 7 2010, to October 8 2010. An extra 805 accessory kits which were shipped to Harley-Davidson dealers between July 28 to September 29 2010 are also part of the recall.

If you think you have a Softail affected by the recall, you can contact Harley-Davidson on 1-414-343-4056.

Lowes is yet another retailer associated with a blind recall, they have announced that 11 million of these Roman shades and blinds are to be recalled. The reason for the new recall was due to two incidents where children were almost strangled, as you would imagine this is very worrying.

According to Bloomberg, the CPSC reports that Lowes is to recall 5 million of the roller blinds and 6 million of the Roman shades, if you own one, then you are asked to stop using them. I would advise you to take them down.

There is a solution though, if you phone 1-800-506-4636 or visit the Window Coverings website you will be given a free repair kit. We do not know how long the delivery time will be, but we are sure that they will be sent to you ASAP.

This Lowes 11 million blinds recall is all part of the same one that has been going on since December 2009, which has now totaled more than 50 million. Other retailers that were affected by the previous recall were Wal-Mart, Pottery Barn amongst others.

Are you affected by this recall?
