On Saturday we informed you of some of the best auto commercials that would be shown during Sunday’s Super Bowl. However, we were unaware that Sony were going to officially show off their upcoming Xperia Play (see for yourself in the video embeded below), which must of us know as the PSP Phone. So we know this PlayStation handset as many things, so how does it compare to the PSP2 NGP?

You might wonder why we would want to compare a smartphone to a handheld gaming device, but you have to understand that the Xperia Play will be used a lot for gaming as much as it will be a phone. The real threat comes from the iPhone not the new PSP2. Bonnie Cha from CNET Blog says that not much was reveled in the ad, but we will learn more on February 13, 2011. The other important factor is knowing which carrier will get the new handset – this could decide how successful it will become.

It is Techtree who points out that the gaming experience on the PSP Phone will not be nothing like that of the PSP2, as nothing was mentioned about the former device during the recent NGP conference. Having said that, Sony must know that the Xperia Play will not do both as good as a dedicated device, and that would not even want to.

This is the reason why the new device will be more for casual gamers, just like the iPhone then. Nachiket Mhatre seems to have some apprehension about the PlayStation Phone, as she hopes that it does not go the same way as the Nokia’s N-Gage.

Do you think that the Xperia Play (PSP Phone) will be able to compete with the Apple iPhone? Could the superb NGP hurt it’s sales?

Don’t worry if you are feeling a little disappointed over the PlayStation Phone ‘no-show’ at CES 2011 so far, as the device has appeared in China, and we have a collection of new videos to show you, showing the device in it’s clearest reveal yet.

As reported from Engadget, the videos have surfaced from Chinese website IT168 and for the first time, they give us a taste of an actual 3D game running on the device. We do know that the game element of the device will be based on PSP1 tech, which should mean that the PS phone will definitely include some sort of PS1 emulator – this game looks to be Asphalt 5 doesn’t it?

The videos also confirm that the PlayStation Application on the device will be known as the ‘PlayStation Pocket’ and we get a good look at how the PlayStation Phone (Zeus Z1) compares alongside the Sony PSP Go, which probably hasn’t done as well as Sony had hoped for.

We’ll be bringing you a full list of specs for the PS Phone so far, later on. In the meantime, check out a video below and let us know your thoughts on them – the rest are over at Engadget. Are you still thinking of buying one of these, or are you going to wait for the PSP2 to be announced?

We have some pretty important news for those of you who are definitely looking to pick up the Sony Ericsson PlayStation phone next year, as a benchmark video has been captured, but the results are far from overwhelming.

Engadget has been sent a new high quality video of the device by an unnamed source, and it shows the PlayStation Phone running some benchmark software called NeoCore, an application provided by Qualcomm.

While the video itself isn’t anything special, the ending result is what is important here, as the ‘Zeus Z1′ device was shown to be running at 24.4 FPS – which you would agree is hardly amazing, compared to other smartphones on the market. This is a PlayStation gaming device right?

Engadget calm worries by reminding us that this is still a prototype model of the PS Phone, and the software itself is probably not at it’s final version, but what are your thoughts on this?

Would you still get the PlayStation phone even if it could only run at 30fps max? The Nexus S performs at over 50fps according to Engadget, and it has also been confirmed via this video, that the upcoming HTC Merge performs pretty well too, higher than 24.4FPS anyway.

Is this a concern for you, or are you more interested in seeing tests on final hardware, rather than a prototype model? We’ll let you know when we have more information for you regarding this.

We have some exciting news for those of you who are interested in picking up the unannounced Sony PlayStation Phone, as we have yet more videos to show you, however – these are videos uploaded in much better quality.

You may remember a few days ago when we showed you a blurry video of the device, codenamed the Zeus Z1. However, we’re pleased to hear that Engadget has managed to get their hands on not one, but two new videos of the PlayStation Phone, which should give you a much better idea of what the handset looks and feels like, if you haven’t seen it before.

We finally get a good look at the slide-out PS controls featured on the device, and even more confirmation that this phone will be running Android 2.3 Gingerbread if you needed it.

A second video shown also gives us an indication on how PlayStation games will run on the device, via a separate application which will then bring up a XMB-type interface similar to that seen on the PS3 and PSP consoles. It is pretty exciting stuff you have to agree – we just need an official announcement by Sony Ericsson now.

Check out the new vids below and let us know your thoughts on them. Based on the videos, are you now interested in picking one up now that you’ve had a closer look at the device?

We have some more news on the upcoming Sony Ericsson PlayStation Phone to share with you now, as it has been reported that the first video of the device has been uploaded onto YouTube.

Unfortunately, you can’t really make out if it is actually the PS Phone in the video, and we don’t even see the slide-out gaming controls either.

However, this report over at BGR seems to think that this is indeed the PlayStation Phone that we’re looking at, and they have also included a few more details which have apparently come from the person responsible for taking the video.

The phone is still being named the ‘Zeus’, but it could come to market as the Sony Ericsson Z1, as seen in the video description. We’re also hearing that the device will come with an 8 megapixel camera, touch-sensitive controls on the slider, a 4-inch touchscreen, Android 2.3 Gingerbread, PlayStation ‘themed’ live wallpapers and some sort of unique store to download games – surely the PS Store no?

BGR also think that an official announcement isn’t too far away, so hopefully they are right about that. Check out the video below and let us know your thoughts on it.

As reported from BGR, French website Nowhereelse has apparently managed to gain an invitation to a special Sony Ericsson event, in which Sony Ericsson are due to announce and confirm the PlayStation Phone to the world on December 9th.

They have included an image with their report, which clearly shows a phone icon next to the set of iconic PlayStation buttons. Check out the image below, it certainly looks real doesn’t it?

Then again, it is a bit odd that this website were the only ones to receive this ‘invitation’ unless Sony Ericsson are planning to send out further invites in the next few days. Either way, we hope it is real.

Bring on the PS phone! Let us know your thoughts on this.

We have some more details on the unannounced, but seemingly real Playstation Phone by Sony, as Engadget has managed to obtain a few new pictures of the elusive device, as well as some more details on the phone.

According to their latest report, the handset has been spotted running Android 2.2 Froyo, instead of Android 3.0 which is meant to be the final version which will retail – although we still don’t know whether this will be Gingerbread, or another name.

A new image showing the settings menu of the device has once again confirmed that Sony are calling this the ‘Zeus’ internally, but again, we don’t know if this will end up being the final name for the phone.

Other specs include an MicroSD card support, as another picture showed the device running an 8GB MicroSD, and at least 512MB of RAM, although Engadget still believe that the device will ship with 1GB as previously thought.

We haven’t asked you for your thoughts on the actual design of the phone yet. These latest shots now show the front cover of the Zeus in it’s entirety – is this something you would end up buying? Check out the latest images over at Engadget and give us your thoughts on them.

Some breaking news to bring you now, and it is a bombshell. Despite the fact that the PSP2 is on the horizon, the first pictures of a separate Sony Ericsson PlayStation phone have appeared in prototype form.

Engadget are the ones with the scoop and although the pictures show an early prototype model, they are looking very legitimate and you can clearly see the four PlayStation buttons on the slide-out keypad.

First of all, just take a moment to study the actual design of the PS Phone. It confirms early rumors that it would come with a unique touchpad located between the D-Pad and the buttons – we’re guessing these will replace the analogue sticks that you’d usually find on the DualShock controller. There are also L and R shoulder buttons on the top of the handset.

The screen itself is thought to be 3.7-4.1 inches in size and Engadget confirm that it will be a Sony Ericsson branded phone running Android, possibly even version 3.0 Gingerbread.

Other specs include a 1GHz Qualcomm MSM8655 processor, 512MB of RAM and 1GB of ROM – no word on the internal memory yet, but it will have support for MicroSD card. There is also a camera on board, but the exact sensor involved has not been disclosed yet.

As for a release, Engadget say that it still could release before the end of this year, but a release in 2011 is more likely, considering that this is the first time that the device has been shown properly.

Quite a lot to take in, what are your early thoughts on the design. We’re excited to say the least, are you?
