Since the PlayStation Store finally came back online a couple of days ago, many users have been wondering when they will be able to get hold of the free content promised by Sony. Yesterday Sony said it would be available very soon, and now true to their word the PSN Welcome Back Package is now live.

Sony has recently posted on its official PlayStation Blog the news of the package being available and how to get the free games. You not only get some free time on the PlayStation Plus service you can choose some free games to keep. You can choose two free games for the PS3 from a list of five, and if you own a PSP as well you can have a further two games.

Here is how to claim your free games; first you need to go over to the PS Store and you should see the Welcome Back banner on the Storefront. You then have to enter the Welcome Back category and choose the PlayStation 3 Free Games option, and then select Get Now on the next screen.

You are then taken back into the Welcome Back area and this is where you can choose the free games you want. The instructions are the same for both the PS3 and PSP. There are also some movie rentals up for grabs for this weekend only and can be found in the On Us section. Head over to the PlayStation Blog for more information.

Which games will you be downloading?

Earlier today we told you the PlayStation Store was finally back online. Unfortunately the Welcome Back Package was not yet available for gamers to gain access to the free downloads promised to users. Now we have news of Sony updating users and saying the PSN Welcome Back Package will be available ‘very soon’, with more added.

The EU PlayStation Blog has tweeted the news that the Welcome Back Package is in final testing and will ‘be available to download very soon’. Meanwhile over at PlayStation Blog forums it has been announced that there will be some added bonuses for PlayStation Plus members.

It says as the PlayStation Store was back later than Sony wanted they will add an extra ten days to the free time already promised. This will now mean the current Plus members will get a total of 70 days free added to their accounts, users will not need to do anything to get the free time as it will be automatically added to the accounts.

Are you pleased with the extra ten days of time added by Sony?

While we wait for the PlayStation Store to come back online, our attention turns to the free games and downloads that Sony will give away as part of the measures the company are using to say thank you to its users. But with the Welcome Back Package, will your PS3 cope download size?

PSN users who have had an account since the 19th of April get to choose two free games from a list of five. But owners of the old PS3 models may have trouble with the size of the downloads, according to an article on Gamersmint. The old fat models had hard drives starting from a measly 20GB going up to 60GB. So owners of these models may have to plan which games they download or free up some space.

For users outside the EU the size of the downloads are as follows, InFamous 6.88 GB, LittleBigPlanet 2.21GB, Wipeout HD/Fury 738MB, Dead Nation 1.39GB, and Super Stardust is 290MB. Meanwhile EU users have the same games but have Ratchet and Clank: Quest for Booty2.4GB, instead of Super Stardust.

If you want to download some of the games but are worried you may not have enough space there are things you can do. Users will only have to select the download option on the PlayStation Store, and it should work in the same way as if you purchased a game off the PS Store. This should save the game to your account which will allow you to free some space or get a new hard drive.

Users must remember that you will only get thirty days to download the games once the store is back online. Now we have to just have to wait for the PS Store to come back.

Last week we told you about some rumors that the PlayStation Store will be back online around the 24th. These rumors were strengthened with the news that the PlayStation Network is going down for maintenance today. But now we can tell you that the PlayStation Store back online status will be by the end of May and not tomorrow.

The information comes courtesy of James Gallagher via the Official PlayStation Blog, where he states that regardless of the rumors the PS Store “will not be reopening tomorrow”. He says that he doesn’t have an exact date but Sony is aiming to have it back online by the end of the month.

He also confirms the news about the planned PlayStation Network maintenance between 16:00 BST to 00:00 BST. If gamers want to play during the downtime he reminds users to sign onto PSN before the maintenance begins.

This news will be a disappointment to the millions of users wanting to access the PS Store to download expansion packs and purchase new games. It will also mean that access to the Welcome Back package will be delayed further.

Are you disappointed the PS Store won’t be back for another week yet?

Yesterday we gave you the news that the PlayStation Store will be back up next week. This will mean that users will be able to take advantage of the freebies being offered by Sony. But trouble is with the PSN Welcome Back Package, what if you already own the free games?

When Sony first listed the games which will be available to download, many of our readers contacted us and said they had already owned them. Many gamers complained on the forums of the PlayStation Blog which led to Nick Caplin responding to the complaints. He said that with so many users it was hard to find something to please everyone.

An article by John Gilbert on PSPGweber.com is wondering if Sony could give out PSN credits instead. The games available are popular PS3 titles so many users will already own them, so will not benefit much from the compensation program. But for those users who don’t buy many games there is a good chance they won’t have the titles, so they will be quite happy with the choice.

There is no way Sony would have ever given out money as compensation, because at the end of the day the PlayStation Network is mainly free to use. But it would be nice if Sony could offer users who already own the title’s something which is of the same pricing level as an alternative. Or what about some free credits to get a small amount off a new game.

Unfortunately there will still be some unhappy users out there who are not pleased with the choices Sony is offering. But Sony are trying hard to put things right. Do you already own the games that Sony is offering?

Yesterday we were finally able to tell what games you will be getting as part of the Welcome Back Package from Sony. But unfortunately some users are not happy with the choice of games offered by the company. Now Nick Caplin has responded to complaints about the free games on the PlayStation Blog.

Shui Ta of examiner.com is reporting that a user moaned that he already had four of the five games offered by Sony. Head of Communications for SCEE Nick Caplin responded on the comments section of the Blog. He said he was sorry there was nothing for the user, but they worked hard “to put together a list of high quality BD games”.

He added that they didn’t want to just offer some cheap PSN titles, and the average score for the games offered was over 84%. But he added that having a large user base it was difficult to find something to suit everyone.

It has also been confirmed by Caplin the users who also have a PSP, can download two titles for each system.

Since the PlayStation Network first started to be restored, many gamers were wondering when they would start getting details of the free downloads which were promised a while back. Now finally Sony reveals the Welcome Back Package details.

Nick Caplin has posted on the PlayStation Blog the full details of what you will be getting courtesy of Sony. The PlayStation Store is yet to be restored so you won’t be able to get your free gifts just yet, but he says that will be “a little while longer”.

The package will only be available for countries that normally have access to the PlayStation Store. You have the choice of two PS games from LittleBigPlanet, Dead Nation, Wipeout HD/Fury, Infamous, and Ratchet and Clank: Quest for Booty.

If you have a PSP account you also get to choose from two of the following games LittleBigPlanet PSP, Pursuit Force, Killzone Liberation, and ModNation PSP. You also get thirty free days of PlayStation Plus membership if you are not already a subscriber. Existing subscribers will be given sixty days free.

Users who already subscribe to Music Unlimited will be offered thirty days free membership, and there will be some more offers with PlayStation Home. Caplin goes on to thank developers and publishers for helping with the package.

Whether this will please most PS3 owners remains to be seen, but at least current subscribers to PlayStation Plus get an extra thirty days compared to non-subscribers. Have Sony done enough to satisfy you?

Now the PlayStation Network is back online for most PS3 owners, thoughts are turning to Sony’s Welcome Back Package. The company has already stated the package will not be available until the PS Store is restored, and as we already reported this will not happen before PSN is up around the world.

Earlier today we told you that the Government in Japan was delaying the PSN switch on, until it was satisfied with the measures Sony were implementing to protect further security breaches. It looks like the PS Store restoration has been delayed, and a recent post on the EU PlayStation Blog by Nick Caplin is confirming this.

He said there has been a “delay in finalizing the welcome back program”, but tomorrow details should be made public. The post was made at 1.30 a.m. so whether he means that is actually today remains to be seen.

We already know that there will be some free PlayStation Plus time available, but Sony also mentioned some free content which included games when they first announced the program. But what would Sony have to offer to repair the damage the downtime has done to its relationship with some customers?

Many PS3 owners have accepted the downtime was not really Sony’s fault even governments have their computer systems hacked. But there are many who are angry with the lack of communication when the problems first began.

So what does Sony need to offer too satisfy you?
