If you are a PS3 owner, it was no doubt very painful having to watch Xbox 360 owners get to play GTA IV episodes and the Call of Duty First Strike Map Pack for Black Ops, months before it arrived on the PS3. But the shift of power may be starting to change, as it has become apparent that a few big developers have decided to reside with Sony and their PS3 for now.

Obviously, the biggest game that everyone’s talking about in relation to this is Mortal Kombat, as the PS3 will get God of War character Kratos, one of his stages, 3D support, and of course a demo! While the Xbox 360 seemingly gets nothing – but that’s not all either.

We’ve just learned that PS3 owners who pick up the highly anticipated Virtua Tennia 4 title from SEGA, will get the opportunity to play as three tennis legends, Boris Becker, Pat Rafter and Stefan Edberg. This may not seem too major for most of you, but it’s still a notable victory for Sony in the exclusive DLC war.

Is this payback for games like Fallout 3, GTA IV and all of the Call of Duty DLC which Microsoft has had their way with? – Perhaps, but Microsoft are not done with waving their little finger just yet. Owners of Castlevania on the PS3 may be a little bit mad over the fact that the ‘Reverie’ DLC has been delayed. But the reason for this, is that there is a fault with Xbox Live, and Konami has already admitted that PS3 owners have to wait since they have an ‘agreement’ in place with Microsoft, so DLC gets released at the same time as the PS3.

It’s amazing to think that Sony and Microsoft go to such detail on acquiring game DLC, as most of it goes unnoticed by the gamer. As a neutral reading all of this – what are your thoughts? Are you currently sick of the console DLC war that doesn’t seem to be ending any time soon, or do you think this is a healthy bit of competition between both consoles and their respective communities?

What game will be next to fall under the exclusive DLC hammer? Elder Scrolls Skyrim? Crysis 2? Dare we say it, Battlefield 3?

As reported from Eurogamer, Bioware’s Jess Huston is the producer of the upcoming ‘port’ of the game, and has been keen to reassure gamers that the PS3 version of the game won’t be a typical ‘run down’ version of Mass Effect 2.

When speaking to the Official PlayStation Magazine, he had this to say:

“Oftentimes when you go to the PS3 you see stuff like down-ressing and using a smaller than 720p resolution to try and get back some of the framerate. We haven’t done that. We really wanted to try to make it as good, if not better than the Xbox version.”

There you go, from the horse’s mouth itself. For those of you who don’t know, Mass Effect 2 for the PS3 will be out in January, a year after the Xbox 360 and PC versions were released. But PS3 owners will be getting every piece of DLC released, plus special ‘introductory content’ that has still yet to be fully revealed.

As reported from VG247, David Mercer, principal analyst for the firm spoke in a recent interview with Industry Gamers, on who will end up taking the most sales this year between Sony and Microsoft.

His company expects Sony to achieve around 31 percent of the market share in Q1, with global sales reaching 14 million units. Meanwhile, he expects Microsoft to make 10.5 million and Nintendo 17.5 – putting them on top.

He continued: “The PS3 continues to benefit from the price cut last September. This should help the PS3 maintain growth momentum throughout 2010.”

What are your thoughts on his predictions? Do you think they are accurate or not? It will be interesting to see just how much Move and Natal shake up sales for both companies.

His comments are from a recent interview with CVG, in which he claims that the Xbox 360 has nearly ”twice their installed base” on the PS3, due to being $100 cheaper.

He added: “Sony bet on the physical disc, and there are costs associated with that. We have the largest movie and TV library, the largest HD library of any console.”

That is the views of Nowgamer, who have wasted no time in giving their thoughts on what they could clearly see between the two versions of the game.

In terms of visual quality, they state that character’s clothes on the Xbox 360 appear to be lacking finer detail, while you can also make out the ‘notably lower resolution textures’.

Other differences between the two include less details for environmental objects and textures, while the CG on the Xbox 360 is extremely compressed, compared with the smoother visuals seen on the PS3.

Remember that this is their views, not ours. They have clearly spent a lot of time studying the two versions, so keep your opinions clean.

Did you expect such a bold comparison, considering Square’s promises that both versions would be ‘equal’?
