Stingy Gamer are reporting that HMV are selling the 160GB PS3 for the discounted price of £179.99. There is a catch to this though; you will have to go in store to get one for this bargain price.

Online the price is £249.99, so whether they have any stock left in stores is another matter. Amazon meanwhile is offering the same 160GB model for £196.00 with delivery. There is still stock showing at the time of writing.

Curry’s have it online for £196 but it is £229.50 in store, they might do a price match on it for you if mention the online price. John Lewis was offering it for the same online price, but at the time of writing it is showing out of stock. Tesco also have the console priced at £196, but Asda currently are charging you £249.

With HMV online they only charge £20 more for the 320GB model then they do for the 160GB, which is priced at £269.99, while Amazon has the same model for £228.00. These competitive prices might lead me to purchase a new PS3; I still have one of the 60GB fat models. At the moment in the US Amazon have the 160GB PS3 for $280.34.

As Engadget reports, this stylish new slim, will be exclusive to Japan and is set to be headed there March 10th. Just like when the white console was released, it’s available with 2 HDD options. The first model, a 160GB costing ¥29,980 ($366) and the second model, a 320GB costing ¥34,980 ($427).

Sony have even released a limited quantity of vertical stands to match. This should finish the sexy new set up nicely. These will cost ¥2,000 ($24).

Moving to Sony’s PS3 was met with mixed feelings, the operating software did not equal that on the Xbox 360, and being able to voice chat before, during, and after a game was a feature missed. This was balanced out by hardware that was more reliable and silent in comparison.

Since 2007 we have seen a few hardware improvements for the Xbox 360, but the new Xbox 360 Slim in 2010 is miles better than anything Microsoft have launched before.

I am lucky enough to have had hands-on time – hundreds of hours – with both the launch Xbox 360 and all PS3 models to date, and at last we see both systems being on par. The new Xbox 360 S is a system I am proud to own, which would not have been the case for an Xbox 360 in 2007/2008.

The launch PS3 also failed, although this was a couple of years after release. Both the launch Xbox 360 and PS3 were not up to scratch in my opinion, and when compared to the latest versions of both systems, it’s a bit of a joke. The launch 360 was just “more of a joke”, with a MASSIVE failure rate that was unacceptable.

Now that the Xbox 360 and PS3 are pretty much on par in hardware reliability, what do you think about the previous models of both systems? How did you feel about the 2007 Xbox 360?

Having both systems also has its advantages, if you can afford to buy both, then we recommend it. You then have the option to buy accessories and games that are exclusive to both systems, which includes PS MOVE, Kinect, Halo, and GT5.
