Sony PS3 at $200: Will sell like PS2 and 140m sales
July 20, 2008 by Daniel
Filed under Gaming, Sony Playstation 3

The current $400 price for a Sony PS3 is a good one and it also means that Sony are losing money on every Playstation 3 sold. What’s confusing at first is the report on FT today that chief executive of Sony’s PlayStation 3 (Kaz Hirai) wants to exceed the PS2 units sold.
When you look at the figures, this is a major claim considering the PS3 has only sold 12.85m compared to the PS2’s 140m.
Some analysts say that the price of the Playstation 3 needs to get below the $200 mark before it will start to sell as well as the PS2. That would not be a surprise at that cheap price, but this price point will not be coming anytime soon.
The Nintendo Wii is ruling the market not just for its unique control system compared to the PS3 and Xbox 360; it is also the cheap price that the Wii has been since the start.
When Kaz Hirai said to FT that they want to pass the PS2 numbers, he was setting this goal for a similar time period of the PS2’s life.
With the PS3 having such a slow start in its first twenty months, it really needs to get moving with unit sales and last months results were good thanks to MGS4, but there needs to be a lot more.
If you do not own a PS3, are you waiting for the right price?
Sony Media and Events Home Venue, how good is virtual re-run of PlayStation Day 2008?
May 28, 2008 by Mark

It is bad enough living in the real world not alone a virtual one, virtual worlds give people more confidence than the real world so to boost Sony Home Beta users with more love and confidence they were invited to try out the all new Home venue.
It is all about “Media and Events” and this space is basically a recreation of the PlayStation Day event which was held in London a few weeks ago, Sony in the future are looking at using the space to host things from new unveilings to fashion shows and sports events and when this happens it could mean big business. The PlayStation Day decoration of Media and Events area includes many elements from the real world event for example photographs and artwork from the show. This new area will include massive screens where the keynote was broadcasted for beta users to see, there was also a video stream of all the stunning action from the real world PlayStation Day.

Sony have said that following the test events success “Home” will indeed start scheduling more elaborate and exciting productions for the Space and that these will not only be available to first party developers but to third party companies as well. This is great news when you think about it because all gamers will get to experience all of the trade shows and events throughout the year right down to exclusive announcements within the virtual world of Home.
Do you think we actually need a virtual world like Home? Oh and when will we actually see Home on our PS3?

Activision’s Call of Duty 5: Military Theatre Confirmed

Having long been a fan of Call of Duty and the latest COD4 being one of the most played games online for the Sony Playstation 3 and Xbox 360, this game has a massive following. Today the Games publisher Activision has confirmed the next game in the franchise, Call of Duty 5: Military Theatre will be coming to the Xbox 360 and Sony PS3 as with the last one, but COD5 will also hit the PC, Nintendo DS and for the first time ever on the Nintendo Wii and Sony PS2.
The last game nearly doubled the users in 2007 and with COD5 also hitting the Wii and PS2 it will surely increase more. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare really became big for the online play and the way you could move up ranks and get new custom weapons as you did. Then getting the surprise of different prestige ranks after you thought you completed the online ranking improvements. I have personally played COD4 for over 140 hours and can tell you first hand; it’s the best game in its class. Now I wonder what Call of Duty 5 will bring?
Mike Griffith, Activision’s CEO said “We’ll bring the intensity of the recent Call of Duty: Modern Warfare title to a new military theatre”. That does not tell us much, but lets hope they really get their act together and bring us some destructible environments, as that’s what we want. Forget bullet holes in walls and laptops; give us grenades that can blow holes in walls and everything in a room. Lets have COD5 with all the same gameplay, but increased reality.
