Now the likes of Manchester United and the Premier League could be on Apple TV.

Currently Sky TV and ESPN have the rights to the live games in the UK, but a new report is suggesting when the next round of bidding begins for these rights, both Apple and Google may make bids to boost their TV platforms.

Three companies certain to bid for the rights include Sky, ESPN, and Al Jazeera who would have the financial clout to rival Rupert Murdoch’s grip on the coverage. Last time round Sky TV paid out £1.6 billion to secure the rights to broadcast live games.

Apple has already begun adding live sports content to its Apple TV set-top-box after it was redesigned back in 2010, which includes access to NHL, MLB, and NBA content. If these rumors are true and Apple was to win some of the live game packages on offer the company could use it to push the rumored iTV device.

There have been rumors for years that Apple was going to enter the TV market, which have intensified in the last few months. Some believe any such device could be released later this year in time for the holiday season rush.

If Apple or Google were to win any of the rights to the Premier League it could mean that many fans would have to go out and purchase new equipment. This could prove decisive in any decision to award the two companies any of the packages on offer, but money talks.

Do you think Apple or Google would bid for the Premier League?

Watch the Premier League while you do the weekly shop in Sainsbury’s http://www.product-reviews.net/2011/08/31/watch-the-premier-league-while-you-do-the-weekly-shop-in-sainsburys/ http://www.product-reviews.net/2011/08/31/watch-the-premier-league-while-you-do-the-weekly-shop-in-sainsburys/#comments Wed, 31 Aug 2011 11:40:22 +0000 Gary Johnson http://www.product-reviews.net/?p=139821 Apple’s iPad has been a big success since it was first released and many different uses for the device are now used. But a novel idea is currently being trialed in the UK, and will allow you to watch the Premier League while you do the weekly grocery shop in Sainsbury’s.

The supermarket giant is currently testing a specially adapted shopping trolley in its Cromwell Road branch in Kensington, West London. If the trail proves to be a success it will roll out the service across the country according to The Telegraph.

These special trolleys have an iPad holder fitted to the top with speakers, and the front bumpers have a sensor fitted that will alert shoppers if they get too close to another person or object. To make sure you don’t run out of battery on your iPad there is an onboard battery that also has a self charging solar panel.

This trial is in conjunction with TV broadcaster Sky who developed the trolleys to showcase its Sky Go service. This allows subscribers to watch live sport or news via their mobile devices including the iPad.

Ian Burgess from Setwo Designs, the company that designed the trolleys said “Being able to create a gadget that is practical yet innovative is often a challenge but I think with the trolley we’ve cracked it”. He added the special trolley can also be used in the traditional way, but also stream Sky content easily.

Sainsbury’s thinks the idea will have a commercial impact as it may make shoppers consider visiting the store. Brett Hart from Sainsbury said the company is always looking to make its customers lives easier, which is one reason why they are looking at the new trolleys.

Would the idea of these special trolleys make you want to go to a particular supermarket more?
