We recently told you about the sad news that Pontiac had closed its doors for the last time. But for many fans of the iconic brand life still goes on. Tim Dye from Broken Arrow now has what is thought to be the largest collection of Pontiac memorabilia in the country. He started his collection as a teenager with a bottle of cologne and a hot rod.

Over the last thirty years he has added to his collection with a number of cars and trinkets. There are about twenty cars in the collection including a rare Can Am, a Canadian built 1964 Safari station wagon, 1890 Pontiac buggy, and a 1982 Grand Prix. Also in the collection are owner’s manuals, model cars, parts books, and much more.

Tim Dye now plans to move his entire collection to Pontiac, I11, and open a museum. There are many other Pontiac fans including Lu V ern Dokter who has been president and a member for 12 years of the Central Oklahoma Pontiac Association. According to Dokter interest has grown since the Pontiac brand was discontinued by GM.

Following on from our post today where we asked you to give us your favourite model from the iconic Pontiac range. We thought it would give our readers a little bit about the auto-manufacturers 84 Years at the top.

Production for Pontiac started all those years ago, although some may not know but the first cars were built as far back as 1907. The company soon transformed into the Oakland Motor Co, where it then began branding its vehicles Pontiac in 1926.

General Motors sold the brand throughout the U.S, Canada and Mexico as a performance division for their company. They specialized in producing high performance models for the mainstream.

With Pontiac saying goodbye after an epic history of producing motorcars, people remember the brand for various reasons. Over at USA Today, Tom Krisher looks back at the firms history where Pontiac were famous for producing muscle cars that not only drag-raced down boulevards, but hit the big screen with some very memorable movie cars.

Unfortunately due to financial problems and restructuring, GM made the announcement that the Pontiac brand would be dropped by the end of 2010. A retired executive from GM, Bill Hoglund blames the loss on the reshuffling back in 1984. During this time with Roger Smith as CEO, the manufacturing and engineering along with design operations were combined with that of the other GM brands.

Through their 84 years Pontiac has been at the fore front of car design producing some of the cars that we all remember fantasising over as children. There are a lot of people that will miss the iconic brand, tell us your memories from Pontiac illustrious career. Why not look at Wikipedia where not only can you follow the companies history but you can see its evolution through the years.

Pontiac Remembered: Your Favorite Iconic Models?

The iconic brand that is Pontiac has finally closed its doors after being in the car making business for 84 years. No other car brand has touched the hearts of hundreds of millions of us, like Pontiac has; the reason for this is because of a huge presence in not only moves, but TV as well.

Smokey and the Bandit was a great movie for two reasons; Burt Reynolds, and the black and gold Firebird that he drove. However, I was too young to fully appreciate this, but it was David Hasselhoff and his Pontiac Trans Am named KITT that made me fall in love with the famous car brand.

I do not know how many times i saw a car go down the street with a strange red light going back and fourth –but it did get a bit stupid? The funny thing is, to this day I still say “Super Pursuit Mode” when I want to go fast in my car – come on, I am not the only one?

There have been so many other iconic Pontiac models, such as in NASAR, but the brand has diluted over the years; sadly the passion faded, GM had no choice but to close the doors.. What is your most iconic Pontiac? What are your fondest memories of the brand?
