For those of you who have never taken these kinds of websites serious enough in the past, then you should, as it has made the list of the Top 100 Most Valuable Internet Startups.

According to Tris Hussey from The Next Web, Plenty Of Fish was in at number 84, which may not sound to high, but it is a great start for such a service. It is no secret what sites were in sites were in the top ten (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn etc.), and rightly so.

PlentlyofFish was founded back in 2003, and since then has been run from Vancouver, Canada. There are those who thought that this online dating service would never take off, but founder and CEO, Markus Frind has proven a number of those critics wrong.

Markus had the idea of having a dating service that did not need too much human interaction to run it, and with just him running things from the start. The biggest difference with PoF and other dating sites is that this one is free, it is the ads on the site that help pay for the service.

If you head over to Plentyoffish.com you should have access to your profile, strangely there is no message on their homepage explaining the outage, which would have been reassuring for the site’s users.

I do not use PlentyofFish, therefore cannot confirm whether the site is back to its normal self, therefore we would appreciate some feedback from you, feel free to answer the poll question below, also we are interested to know whether POF users received any sort of message from the site admin explaining the outage.

We have since had a huge response from our readers, who now inform us that a message has now appeared on the plentyoffish.com website. The reason why the service is down is due to multiple system failures, the end of the message on the POF websites reads, “Will be restored later today.”

Our readers seem to use the dating website a lot, as we have had a huge response, with many of them worried that the service will never be back up. Other users have told them to calm down as this has happened a number of times before.

You always have to laugh at what the readers have to say; one comment made said that this site going down for good could be a good thing, as it would “keep all the cheaters from cheating on the ones that love them.”

Most people seem annoyed that they are unable to view their emails; they fear that they could be missing a big opportunity. One thing is certain, this is no usual problem – we would have thought that an issue with multiple system failures would have been resolved by now.

Do you fear that POF will never be back?

American’s seem to have started experiencing problems this morning (Monday August 9), there has been no official statement from the site’s admin, therefore we imagine that they are hard at work trying to rectify the problems.

As we find out more about why PlentyofFish is or was down we will keep you posted, we have heard rumors suggesting that the site is down for good, however no reliable source has confirmed this.
