Two days ago Sony celebrated its one-year anniversary for Playstation Plus and in order to celebrate, they have presented the fans with a list of releases that are coming their way this month and if you are a member of PlayStation Plus, it looks good for you.

Sony has unveiled that members will get ‘Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars’, ‘Golden Axe’ and ‘Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver’, also if you weren’t much of a gamer in 2007 you will be glad to hear that a full game trial of Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 will also be available. In terms of exclusive discounts there are lots to talk about, we recommend checking out the PlayStation Blog for full details.

Less important things to tell you about are the two dynamic themes and the premium avatar which will are accessible to PS+ subscribers. One of the dynamic themes is a PlayStation Plus Anniversary theme, whilst the other is simply called ‘Symbol Flow’, as for the premium avatar this is called the ‘inFamous 2 Bad Cole Avatar’.

Sony has confirmed that PS Plus members who have been there fore the start will have had access to content which would have cost them in excess of £700, that’s not bad for a single year, especially considering it costs as little as £3.50 per month.

And so the final bonus for the anniversary will be in the form of a prize draw which includes all PS+ subscribers. There are three prizes up for grabs whereby the first ($4000 worth of Sony Entertainment) is the most exciting by far. The second prize will be for three people to win a year’s subscription and the third prize is for 100 people to win a 90 day Plus membership.

Sony’s celebrations suggest that the see the first year of PlayStation as a massive success the fact that PS+ has been such a huge success, we remember when we first told our readers about PS+ there was outrage, has your opinion on PS+ changed for the better since its launch?

The news comes from VG247 and states that “In PAL, this demo will be opened up to PlayStation Plus subscribers at exactly the same time [as the SOCOM 4 beta demo is available]“, however VG247 do not state whether the beta access will be available to Americans who subscribe to PSN+.

PlayStation Plus subscribers in the US will be frustrated if the same offer is not available for NTSC regions as they will be forced to purchase certain versions of SOCOM 4 to gain access to the beta, surely this isn’t fair?

We will try and keep you updated with further details regarding the beta launch date and how you can get access to it when we hear more, at least we know that not everyone will have to buy SOCOM 4 to gain access to the Resistance 3 beta?

According to a recent article over at kingps3.com, PlayStation Plus subscribers have a few free games to look forward to come January 4th, including the PSone classic (and a favorite of mine) Spyro the Dragon, western shooter Lead & Gold: Gangs of the Wild West and the exclusive download of Pipe Madness.

For those of you who are not familiar with the Spyro the Dragon title, it’s a popular platform game – developed by Insomniac Games and first released back in 1998 – that features the young purple dragon named Spyro and his dragonfly friend, Sparx.

As reported by Grace Chen (Senior Manager of PlayStation Store) over at blog.us.playstation.com, the Lead & Gold: Gangs of the Wild West is a third person multiplayer shooter set in the Wild West. The PlayStation Plus update will also bring a free Underwater Disco Theme, and a Rival School Avatar Bundle.

As reported from Joystiq, Sony has just posted an update on their US PlayStation Blog, confirming that the beta will be available for every PS Plus subscriber, and not a selected few which often happens to the frustration of many.

Sony hasn’t given an exact date and time for the beta, but they have said that it will be available very soon. They have also said that players will be able to create their own villain as well as a superhero in the beta, so least you’ll have that option.

What are your thoughts on the upcoming beta? Have you been keeping an eye on development for DC Universe Online? Suddenly that $50 PS Plus subscription price doesn’t seem too harsh, with all the regular goodies that Sony keeps offering. Will you now subscribe to play this or not?

According to Electronic Theatre the download is live now, so you had best go to the PlayStation Store. Playing Killzone 3 beta will give you a chance to play something different – ideal if you are already getting bored with Call of Duty Black Ops. Ok, I am joking on that last part, but you know what I mean?

The download will not be available for long, so if you are not a subscriber to PlayStation Plus, then maybe it is about time you were, otherwise you will miss out on other great offers like this. The full version of the game will be available some time in 2011, and there will be both 2D and 3D versions of the game.

We recently reported that there is to be a special version of the game called Helghast Edition, but you will need to put aside $129.99. Do you think that it is fair that other PS3 users will not be able to download Killzone 3 beta?

You can’t say that this wasn’t coming. Sony know that Killzone 3 is going to one of their highlights of 2011, so what better way to boost their PS Plus subscriber numbers up by announcing a beta for select PS3 owners only.

We don’t know if there will be an open beta, but since the game is due out February 11th next year, it doesn’t leave a lot of time for Guerilla to fix up any problems in the closed beta, then get an open beta sorted out for everyone else in that time period.

It looks to us like this is exclusive to PS Plus subscribers. Will you now bite the bullet and pay for a subscription? Just to refresh, 3 months cost $17.99, while a year’s access will cost you $49.99.

For PS3 owners who dont have a Plus subscription, this is obviously disappointing news. Let us know what you intend to do.

Yesterday we touched on the subject briefly as to the pros and cons of PlayStation Plus – with IGN sitting down and discussing its different uses. It seems with just one game download you have already justified almost half the payment.

Some users point out that you only have access to these free games all the time you subscribe, the moment you end that service you will lose access to these games. We cannot see an issue here – is this not the way that Netflix does it as well?

We also compared Xbox Live and PlayStation Plus, we know that this got mixed reactions but for the most part Sony’s offering gives you so much more than Microsoft’s. Maybe you have something to add to that?

PS3 users have now had a day with the latest firmware update with PlayStation Plus – well most of us as some have experienced download problems. IGN has sat down with a few of its team to discuss the pros and cons of the update.

Colin Moriarty has said that he has already got back more than half his $50 in one game download alone, and that was just in the first night of signing up to PlayStation Plus. If you live your life around PSN, then you will know that this is a good deal.

The idea of getting free games each month is certainly a nice idea, but to keep access to them you need to keep up with your subscription. The moment you stop paying you will lose all the games – Greg Miller does not have a problem with this, as this is just how Netfilx works.

To give you an idea on just how good a deal PlayStation Plus is, WipEout is normally $20, but it is free for those who sign up that’s just one game. So say you get a free $20 game each month, then that would cost you $240 per year, so the $50 fee does not seem that high after all.

It was no secret that PS3 owners signed up to PSN were not happy about this charge – but let us not forget what you will be getting for $50 per year, which we recently mentioned. If you were to become a member, you get so much for the small amount of money that you will have to pay every three months or once a year.

It is no secret that Playstationlifestyle will be biased, so it comes as no shock that they believe that PlayStation Plus is better than Xbox Live, and looking and what you get for you money it is not hard to see why. Both offer a free service, with PSN offering more services.

There is not much on this site that we didn’t already know, however I would recommend bookmarking it as I would not be surprised if Sony expand this site before the official launch of PlayStation Plus.

Many gamers are concerned that PlayStation Plus gamers will get all of the priority treatment whilst standard PSN gamers miss out, and by the looks of it this is a viable concern, Plus subscribers will get full game trails which will let you try a full game before you buy, along with exclusive offers, early demos, automatic downloads, priority beta invitation and much more.

Since the PS3 was release it has always boasted it’s free online capabilities, obviously the capabilities are still there, however seriously restricted unless you pay, I suppose PS3 gamers can’t use Xbox Live subscriptions costs against Xbox 360 gamers any more.
