Sony says European Home Beta will start ‘very shortly’

August 8, 2008 by Alan
Filed under Gaming, Online Games, Sony Playstation 3

There has been fresh news from the official US PS Blog post stating that the European Home beta will start ‘very shortly’. This is great news for European owners as it looks like they won’t get left in the dark once the beta also begins in the US.

The post written by Home director Jack Buser stated, “In Europe, SCEE is beginning their expanded closed beta directly targeting consumers who have been most active on PlayStation Network and PlayStation Store. SCEE will be in email contact with their PSN audience very shortly.”

So after all the delays it finally looks as if Sony are getting Home up and running, and judging by the EU and US betas, they will hopefully be ready for full release soon, for those of you who are hoping to get chosen, now might be the time to start getting active on your PSN accounts!

Also stated in the blog were details on how US owners can get in on the beta. Rather than judge it on activity, PSN users will simply just have to download a Playstation Home theme from the store, that in sense being an application for your chances of getting in.

Stay tuned for more news on Home.

EA looks to the future, no more ‘crappy’ games.

Recently the CEO of EA, John Riccitiello has spoken out and believes that EA has “the best title plan of any company in the industry”. He is talking about the way creative teams for EA have been let free and become imaginative when creating games, rather than previous methods of just bringing out licensed sequels.

When he spoke to MTV Multiplayer he stated, “I think that a lot of the intellectual property we create are better than the licenses. That doesn’t mean there isn’t room for great licenses. There’s room for both. I think what you’re noticing is that in years gone by we haven’t had as many great, original intellectual properties. There’s a lot more of that this year from EA and I think from here forward”.

His comments above signal good news for all you EA fans out there as there looks to be a lot of good potential games due to be released. Riccitiello also stated that the company made errors when perhaps rushing certain games, “I think what redeems our industry is quality, and I think we take a step back every time we take a license and exploit it with a crappy game. That’s not what we’re about,” he said.

Let’s hope he isn’t kidding, and we can look forward to some special games from EA, on the new generation of consoles.

New Sony PS3 Videos: Playstation 3 Home and Life

Playstation Life
This is all about the Playstation 3 Home and Life and below we have two videos for you to watch, the first video is about the “New Playstation Home Trailer” which shows new footage of what you can do within the game.

The Playstation 3 Home and Life video shows you spaces, few sports like bowling, golf and pool oh and some clothes, at the end of the video it says “Hope to see you here”. Now all the talk about “Home” is the delays this delays that and we say quit the moaning because look at it this way, if they keep on delaying it that means Sony are having problems and we do not want to be in the “Home” to have nothing but problems, to us delays after delays is a good thing because Sony want perfection, so all in all worth the wait. This is going to be great for meeting people, relaxing in a relaxed world.

Now moving onto the second video, Playstation Live is a brand new service where you see the earth like you have never seen before for news and how the weather is; it will be released at the end of the year. Many gamers are saying that it is a Google Earth rip-off which is pretty funny really considering it looks nothing like it, some are saying it is another feature of the Wii that they copied, not sure I understand what they are on about but hey I am only publishing what people are saying.

Please watch the videos below then come back and give us your personal views please.

Nintendo Wii gets Rock Band : What about UK PS3 owners?

June 19, 2008 by Alan

rockband

Rock Band has fast become a huge success since it was released back in November on the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. It is a game which is heavily in demand, but it looks as if Rock Band will finally be getting a Wii release. Due to hit US shores on the 22nd June, Nintendo Wii owners will be rewarded for their patience as the Wii will receive 5 extra tracks on the disc that the 360 and PS3 did not have (Although available on DLC) . Some of the bonus material includes ‘Roxanne’ by The Police and ‘Rockaway Beach’ by The Ramones.

In a recent article on Crispy Gamer, they managed to speak to Rock Band producer Matt Kelly, to ask him various questions regarding the future of Rock Band and gave away some hints on what we can expect in future versions. When quizzed about the fact that Guitar Hero had a Aerosmith based game on the way and if Rock Band had anything similar on the horizon he stated, “We’re excited we’ve been able to provide deep musical experiences with specific artists through DLC of full albums. As for future plans, we haven’t announced anything at this time.” He did though however say that developers were “working closely with Metallica” and to stay tuned to hear more announcements on this.

As a resident in the UK I have been questioning why Rock Band has yet to be released on the PS3 over here, considering the fact that it has been out since November in the US, and not a word on the UK release I find a little frustrating. Are there any other UK PS3 owners who feel the same?

New Video Game: 50 Cent Blood on the Sand

April 28, 2008 by Daniel

Millions of people around the world know Curtis James Jackson III but even more know him as “50 Cent”, the American rapper who became famous thanks to his albums The Massacre in 2005 and Get Rich or Die Tryin’ in 2003. He was given a hand to fame thanks to being discovered by Eminem and Dr. Dre helped produce his commercial successes.

While 50 Cent has had his hand in many product areas, one of his least successful was the video game 50 Cent: Bulletproof which was on the Xbox, PlayStation 2 and Sony PSP. Now I did play that game and it was not all bad. Today we have a video game trailer of “50 Cent: Blood on the Sand”, this is the sequel and it will get next-gen graphics and a lot more of 50 cent.

After watching the CG trailer (see below), I had a feeling of 50 cent making himself seem indestructible and the best of the best, I did like the trailer but sadly games like this seem to never live up to the hype. He may have been better making an “OK” trailer and a good game, this way expectations are very low.

50 Cent: Blood on the Sand is scheduled for a 2008 release and will be on the Xbox 360 and Sony PS3, watch the trailers (second one is an interview) and let us know if you will be buying it?

The Nintendo Wii Is Given The Crystal Icing Treatment

Looks like the Wii has had a bit of a facelift! This amazing console was created by Crystal icing and is named ‘The Brawl to end them all…’. Quite an ironic name if you take into consideration the ongoing brawl between the Wii, Xbox 360 and the PS3!

This Wii has been given the crystal treatment and features a cool Mario design. It was originally designed for the winner of the Super Smash Bros Brawl Competition and now it’s available for anyone with a spare $4000!

US Air Force wants 300 Sony PS3’s (NOT Xbox 360’s) for technology assessment

US Air Force wants 300 Sony PS3
I know this post will attract many Xbox 360 gamers who are blind to the facts…but here we go. The US Air Force wants 300 Sony PS3’s for a so called “technology assessment”, although they are keeping the details hush hush.

When it comes to gaming the Xbox 360 has an amazing collection of games and a massive following, although the hardware is known for it’s problems. The Sony PS3 is obviously a much better hardware build and in the US Air Forces own words, the Playstation 3 is the “only brand on the market that utilizes the specific cell processor characteristics needed for this program at an acceptable cost.

So other than gaming and Blu-ray movies, this is just another vote for the power of the PS3 from the Air Force Research Laboratory.

Strong Sony PS3 resurgence forces another Xbox 360 price cut in Europe

Strong Sony PS3 resurgence forces another Xbox 360 price in Europe
We know that the Sony PS3 has been seeing resurgence in sales figures; this is due to more titles coming out and also the fact that it has a Blu-ray player built in. With this in mind it seems as if Microsoft has been forced into a corner, as they preferred the HD DVD player.

With sales now falling for the Xbox 360 it seems as if there could be a price cut just around the corner. It seems as if the Xbox is falling far behind the once slow to get going Sony PlayStation. The PS3 has had a number of firmware updates to make it a better games console, and also the release of the introduction of DualShock3 is yet another nail in the coffin for the big and bulky Xbox 360.
Europe is to get a price cut of €50, some time near March 14th.
