When it comes to home theatre, Pioneer, has for a while now, been one of the leading manufacturers of equipment such as TVs, Home Theatre Systems and DVD/Blu-ray players. Due to their high quality, a lot of this equipment can be quite pricey; however the company has just announced its new, more affordable 3D Blu-ray player, the BDP-140.

This new low budget unit also features home networking as well as 3D Blu-ray playback and will be available for about £170. Previously we brought you news of an announcement for another lower priced Blu-ray player, this time it was the Sony BDP-S185. Although it does not have 3D support, at £80 it is one of the cheapest units available so it can be forgiven.

Pioneer’s BDP-140 will also be competing against other similar systems on the market from manufacturers such as LG, with their BD670 and Sony, with their BDP-S480. 3D playback at an affordable price makes the Pioneer BDP-140 quite the competitor and the company will be hoping to shift as many units as possible.

Another interesting feature that this system has, may attract many appreciators of high-quality music and sound as it also supports Super Audio CD playback. It is also compatible with Pioneer’s iControl AV2 app which is available for Apple’s iDevices and Android devices. Other features include web smarts for showing off Picasa albums, watching YouTube or accessing BD Live content.

The launch of this particular model Blu-ray player is the first of three models that are expected to be unveiled by Pioneer, according to TechRadar the next two models will be more advanced are expected to be debuted a IFA 2011. The company’s Product Information Manager Philippe Coppens claims ‘each of the new products will offer the highest quality.’

Are you impressed with the low budget price of this Pioneer Blu-Ray player?

Onkyo have long been regarded as making some of the best home cinema receivers. The company is always being innovative and has demonstrated this with its latest range of receivers. Today we can tell you that Onkyo and pioneer are to have Android control apps for their 2011 AV range.

The upcoming Onkyo Remote App for Android will allow users to stream audio wirelessly from an Android handset to an Onkyo receiver or hi-fi system. Owners also have access to a wide range of remote control functions from the application.

Once connected to a local wireless network the application will allow users to play music they have stored on an Android device to a networked Onkyo audio system. This will allow owners to hear their music played back with greater power and fidelity than what they have ever heard it from a smartphone.

The Android application allows users to look through networked content without needing to view or operate onscreen menus via a connected TV display. They can simply use the touch screen GUI on the Android device to navigate through menus and control a variety of different functions. These include adjusting volume and tone, and selecting the input source. They can even control the output in individual zones in a multi-room setup.

It will be available next month free of charge from the Android Market, and is compatible with all of the Onkyo 2011 range of network AV receivers. The new TX-8050 stereo network receiver is also compatible. It will be ideal for the company’s TX-NR609 with built in Spotify.

Meanwhile What Hi-Fi Sound and Vision are reporting that a similar application is available for Pioneers 2011 AV range. The iContralAV2 application is already on the Android Market and also the Apple App Store for iOS. It will allow you to control volume, bass, balance, and room settings of your Pioneer receiver.

The Android version will work with Pioneers VSX-921, VSX-1021, VSX-2021, VSX-LX55, SC-LX75 and SC-LX85 multichannel receivers. It will even control some of the company’s Blu-ray players which are the BDP-LX54, BDP-430, BDP-LX53, BDP-333, and the BDP-330.

Do you own an Onkyo receiver?

If you take pride in your home cinema set up, you will most likely own a receiving unit. One of the most popular manufacturers of these types of equipment is Pioneer and you will be pleased to know that they have announced the latest line of Elite VSX receiver unit.

What’s most intriguing about this new batch is the company will be offering Apple AirPlay support as well as their own Air Jam compatible systems. These new units include the VSX-53, VSX-52, VSX-51, VSX-50 and VSX-40. Each support external zones for multi-room playback and offer seven channels of no more than 110W. Also all except the VSX-40 will feature DLNA streaming media support.

Pioneer’s Air Jam feature will up to four separate devices like iPhones, iPod Touches and iPads to contribute to the music playlist as long as they each have Pioneer’s free app and are hooked up via the AS-BT200 Bluetooth adapter which is optional and will set you back $99.

The five units will become available during the summer and will range in price, depending which model you prefer, from $450 up to $1,100. Check out the official website for more details about which models feature what.

Are you interested in any of these receivers?

Here is some exciting news for those of you looking to get yourself a high quality set of headphones, which offer noise cancelling technology without being too big. Having previously brought you news of Pioneer’s Sound Wing speakers, now the company has released a new set of in-ear headphones.

The Pioneer SE-NC31C-k headphones are also noise cancelling. Normally noise cancelling earphones have large speakers that cover and go over the whole ear but these have 14.2mm driver ear buds as well as adapters that allow use with various devices.

The active noise cancelling feature is powered by a single AAA battery, which is enough to provide power for 120 hours’ worth of music. If the battery runs dead the headphones are still able to function without noise cancellation.

The SE-NC31C-k headphones ship with a 4.6ft cord, a carry pouch, four sizes of interchangeable tips and an in-flight plug adapter. Pioneer also promises that 90% of external sound can be cancelled.

More details about the headphones can be found at the official Pioneer website where you will find a list of specs. They will cost $99. What do you think of the headphones? Let us know in the comments below.

If you are locking to set yourself up with a new set of speakers then we have some exciting news for you. Having previously brought you news of Pioneer’s VSX-1021 AV Receiver System that is to feature Apple’s Airplay, we now have news that Pioneer has introduced their latest speakers, the Sound Wings.

These speakers are not like any ordinary speakers, as they feature HVT (Horizontal-Vertical Transforming) technology. They are designed to produce a sound output of 100W while maintaining bass caliber and reducing unwanted vibration.

They give off omnidirectional sounds which will cover the while room and feature a closely packaged double diaphragm.

The HVT technology allows for excess space to be taken up with the coils inside the speaker and in theory allows for a thinner design speaker overall even though the Sound Wings still measure 109mm thick.

They are expected to cost in the region of $500 and will be available in June this year. More details about the speakers can be found at AkihabaraNews by clicking the link. What do you think of the Pioneer Sound Wing Speakers? Let us know in the comments below.

Not all news is good news and for those of you who were hoping to get your hands on one of Pioneer’s new DJM-900nexus mixers we do have some bad news. The company has announced that they have found a flaw in some of the earlier products and is therefore recalling units and delaying availability of more.

According to the company a headphone compatibility flaw was discovered. They found that when connecting headphones from other manufacturers to the unit while the volume is set high, it triggers a safety power down circuit.

The issue has already been rectified at production line level by Pioneer but those units that were released to Europe and the US before the issue was discovered will obviously need to be returned and swapped for a new model at the nearest retailer.

Of course because of the delay in availability, now set to be available in April, it might be worth checking ahead to ensure a new model is available for the swap. More details about the issues and what is being done about it click on the Pioneer link above.

Have these issues affected you? Were you hoping to get a DJM-900nexus mixer or have you managed to get one and now have to send back? Let us know in the comments below.

With the success of Apple’s AirPlay already well established, more manufacturers are integrating support for the feature. We previously brought you news of JBL’s On Air Wireless speaker dock and Philips’ Fidelio SoundSphere speakers, both AirPlay enabled.

Now Pioneer has just announced their first device in a new line of AirPlay enabled AV receivers. The VSX-1021 will not only support this feature but also a 7.1 channel sound. The AirPlay feature will means the system can receive the music you stream from your iTunes and allows it to be played across your home theater system set up.

As the article from Shane McGlaun at Slashgear explains, the Pioneer receiver has Ethernet connectivity and also an optional Wi-Fi receiver for a more convenient installation. It includes a USB video cable making it compatible with Apple devices such as iPod Touch, iPhone and iPad directly with no need to dock whilst simultaneously charging the devices too.

Not only does the VSX-1021 allow for music streaming but will also allow you to view content from your device like YouTube and album art and more. For more information click this Pioneer link where the device’s features are listed in more details and also the price.

Over the past few months Pioneer has been updating the equipment in its DJ controllers line. We have news of another bit of DJ kit being launched to its line, the DJM-900nexus which is designed precisely for professional club DJs looking to update their existing mixers.

Up until now most club DJs have been satisfied with the five year old DJM-800 mixer but this new update will offer the ‘next level in creativity’ for pro DJs according to Pioneer. Its key features include up-to-date sound effects, computer connectivity and high performance sound.

As Slashgear report the mixer is designed with sound quality in mind. It’s incorporated with a high performance soundcard capable of streaming audio signals without losing quality of the sound as it’s a 96 kHz/24bit 4-channel.

Other features include X-pad which is a built in touch screen for instant one touch performance, new Sound Color FX and new plug ‘n’ play software which allows easy connectivity meaning DJs can get up and go then set up somewhere else with no hassle. For a full list of specs and features you can visit Pioneer, where they also list the price of this ‘revolutionary’ piece of kit and say that it will be launched sometime in March.

Do you think the DJM-900nexus is revolutionary? Let us know what you think.

We have learned today from Vlad Savov over at engadget.com, that Pioneer have decided to re-launch their HDJ-100 headphone with an all black look, as well as the black and gold design like in the photo above.

These tasty looking DJ headphones have had some of the internals changed, which is said to deliver better reproduction of low-range and mid-range frequencies, featuring a 38 micrometers diaphragm and 1.5 mm voice coil. They also provide a more comfortable fit and sound insulation thanks to the low rebound urethane ear pads.

Some specifications include a 50mm diameter dome, 107 dB/m output sound level, Impedance of 36Ω, as well as a Frequency range of 5Hz – 30kHz. They come with 1.2m-coil cord that can extend to 3m, and fitted with a gold-plated screw-in 3.5 mm 3P mini plus plug.

If you want to get your hands on these headphones, you will be able to sometime in December for a price of around $209. How do they compare to the originals?
