We have told you about some of the great music applications that are available from This Day in Music Apps before. Now today we have another great application to tell you about that has just been released to the App Store. This Day in Pink Floyd is the first and only official application and lands on an iPhone near you now.

The application is being released in conjunction with their back catalog re-releases and has been officially been approved by the surviving members of the band. This Day in Pink Floyd 1.0 is available to download now for owners of the iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad.

Users are provided with information on the bands activities for every day of the year, which include studio recording dates, TV performances, album release dates and much more. Each day users are provided with two illustrative photographs or graphics that are chosen by the app at random, and can be expanded for greater clarity.

There is a Pink Floyd quiz that has hundreds of interactive questions that are scored out of ten, and has sound clips for correct and incorrect answers that are taken from the bands own recordings. Users will also get hundreds of Pink Floyd trivia facts that are accompanied by a moving Dark Side Of The Moon graphic, and one of two classic guitar riffs.

Other features include song notes for every album that include detailed critique of every studio track and album. Users can also link and play any Pink Floyd track they have in their iTunes library from within the app. There is even an embedded video from the Point Me At The Sky single from 1968 and much more.

This Day in Pink Floyd 1.0 is available worldwide from the App Store for only $2.99/£1.99. iOS 4.0 or later required.

Later albums from rock band Pink Floyd are now not available to buy as a digital download. Classic albums like “The Wall” and “Animals” have been taken off retailers like Amazon’s MP3 store and iTunes because EMI’s contract with those albums expired on the 30th of June.

An article by Ed Christman of Reuters.com is reporting that the albums will still be available on CD as EMI will still have stock that it can sell off, but will not be able to manufacture more copies until a new contract is signed. Other albums no longer available as a download include “The Final Cut” and Wish You Were Here”.

The bands earlier albums through to the “Dark Side of The Moon” are still available to download. Pink Floyd’s management started touting the bands entire music catalog for a new licensing deal around eighteen months ago. But some major record labels have found the bidding for the license too high.

Some label sources do not think Pink Floyd’s asking price will rocket, but the band has sold 36.2 million albums since 1991 in the US alone. This year so far 587,000 digital albums have been sold, and in the last two months of EMI’s deal “The Wall” sold 14,000 units.
