We knew a while ago that Adobe was going to update a number of their products in order to offer support for Apple’s latest laptop. You’ll be pleased to learn that the Retina MacBook Pro benefits from yesterdays Photoshop CS6 update. Having support for HiDPI along with Retina displays will add a completely new dimension to CS6 because it will allow the images you are editing to look so much more detailed than ever before.

In order to get this new feature working you will first need to go to the Help in the Main Menu in Photoshop and Illustrator CS6, from there just select Updates and then Update. We thought you would like to know that the HiDPI feature is only supported on Mac OS, but Adobe does say that this will be made available on other operating systems in the future. You can learn much more about this along with future Adobe updates later today as part of Create Now Live, which you will be able to view here.

It’s great to see that both Photoshop and Illustrator CS6 will now be seen how they should be on the very expensive Retina MacBook Pro, but how long will it be before Windows laptops will be able to benefit from an improved display? Some people would have you believe that you can adjust certain settings in Windows to emulate Retina, but it’s not as simple as you might think.

One of our readers did wonder why the software would need updating in the first place because software is meant to scale to fit whatever resolution it’s running on. However, if this were the case then it would not be able to offer higher image quality to Bitmap images, at least with Retina support you will now be able to zoom in much closer to your Bitmap image without the need to strain to focus on the image.

We’ve added a video below so you can get an idea of just how clear and detailed the new Photoshop CS6 update looks on a Retina screen, although it’s pretty hard to show this off on a video and if you do not have a Retina screen to view it on either.
