Camera manufacturers Pentax have announced they will be releasing a new digital camera, this digital camera is called the Pentax Optio W80, and is a direct competitor against Canon’s PowerShot D10. The Canon PowerShot D10 currently dominates the waterproof point-and-shoot camera market however Pentax hopes to change this.

A quick run-down of the camera shows it has a 12.1MP camera, a 5x optical zoom, and a wide-angle lens. There is also the functionality to record video at 720p at 30 frames per second and the phone has a 2.5 inch LCD display. Along with the above mentioned features it also has face recognition and shake reduction, allowing crisper photos to be taken.

In terms of robustness the camera is designed to withstand submersion in up to 16 feet of water, also it can withstand the extreme cold (up to -14 Degrees Celsius) and drops from around 1 metre. The camera is also resistant to dust.
