A couple of days ago we brought you details on the recently unveiled Pandigital Nova, which as we mentioned runs on the Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS and comes with a 7-inch (600 x 800 resolution) screen. That doesn’t appear to be the only product that the company has been working on either, as Pandigital has now officially revealed the Star Planet Android tablets as well.

As Amar Toor from engadget.com recently noted, all three tablets are powered by a Cortex A9 processor (800MHz according to our previous article) and feature a 7-inch display and an ActiveTouch touchscreen interface with multi-touch support. The Planet and Nova models come with a 600 x 800 resolution, while the Star features an 800 x 480 resolution.

In terms of storage, both the Star and the Planet include 2GB of internal memory, while the Nova comes with 4GB. However, all three models do come with a microSD card slot that supports cards up to 32GB. The Pandigital Nova appears to be the only model that runs on the Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system, as the Planet and the Star both run on the 2.2 Froyo OS.

The good news is that all three models will be upgradable to the latest version of the Android operating system. The tablets also come with an orientation sensor, which will automatically adjust between landscape and portrait modes in most applications when the device is tilted. The tablets’ built-in mini-USB ON The Go port enables users to connect it to a PC for easy file transfers.

All thee devices come with HDMI and Wi-Fi connectivity, as well as a rechargeable Li-ion battery that will provide users with up to 6 hours of usage. The Planet, Nova and Star all come preloaded with Barnes & Noble’s eBookstore app, as well as access to GetJar’s app download store. The 3 media tablets will be available to purchase from leading retailers all across the US.

The Pandigital Planet is available now for an MSRP of $189. The Nova will be available this week for an MSRP of $189, and the Pandigital Star tablet will be available to purchase as from mid-August for an MSRP of $159. Are you thinking about buying a new media tablet? If you are, do you like the sound of any of the aforementioned models?

Pandigital gave us the Novel eReader about a year ago and seemed to get a decent amount of media attention. However, they have now launched a new model called the Nova, and it shows what a difference 12 months make, as this is the first that we have learned about it. There are two reasons for this, the first is that the device is not so novel anymore, and the second is because they know that the new Nook device has it covered.

Let’s not get too negative, as this Gingerbread 2.3 device can be yours for just shy of $170 from Best Buy. Specs are not that great, but they are more than enough for what you need, such as a 7-inch display, 800MHz processor, 4GB of storage and an ActiveTouch display. All the other usual features are there, like Wi-Fi, microSD card slot and a micro HDMI port.

The screen offers a resolution of 600 x 800 and has a front and rear-facing camera, along with a built-in microphone. Reading books is made simple thanks to access to Barnes & Noble. Those of you familiar with the online bookstore knows that there is a huge selection of material to choose from, so no matter what your taste in books is, you can read them on the new Pandigital Nova.

Looking over the specs we can see that they are an improvement on the Novel. You will now notice that the new Nova eReader has four buttons on the bottom, these look to be Back, Menu, Home and Search. Not only that, but the on-board storage was only 1GB, which we now know has seen a 3GB improvement.

However, that is not the biggest improvement, the previous model runs on an older OS, the Nova will benefit from Gingerbread, something not even the HTC ThunderBolt can do. The eReader only comes in one color, black and is said to ship within 1 to 2 weeks. However, if you do not wish to wait that long, then why not check on the Best Buy website to see if your nearest brick and mortar store has any in stock. Do not worry if your local store only has a limited stock, cannot see too many of these shifting. Like the Novel, the Nova will be in direct competition with the Nook Color, the all-new Nook and the Amazon Kindle. There are other eReaders on the market, but these are the models that pose the greatest threat.
