I first ask them what is their budget, and second if they want LCD or Plasma? Let us say that they choose a top brand and Plasma, then I would suggest they look at the Panasonic TC-P65S1 VIERA HDTV.

Yes I know what you are thinking, the TV is getting on a bit now, but that’s the good thing about Panasonic, you can wait 6 moths for their price to come down – and the features are still better than many of the other brands out there that are just coming on the market.

This 1080p Full HD TV offers 2,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio and a 600Hz refresh rate, great if you want to watch that tennis ball as it flies through the air. As with all plasma TVs, you get superb black levels – ideal if you love watching movies like Star Wars.

Looking at a few user reviews from Best Buy, it seems that some consumers have an issue with the amount of power that the Panasonic TC-P65S1 consumes compared to an LCD equivalent. However, superb image quality more than makes up for it.

The TC-P50U2 Plasma HDTV now has what is considered old tech inside, but can still hold its own against a number of 2010 spec TVs.

What makes this TV so special is its 600Hz Sub-field Drive, so if you are into sports, then the 50-inch VIERA TC-P50U2 is the TV for you. Some of the main specs are as follows: 2,000,000:1 contrast ratio, 6,144 shades of gradation, JPEG compatibility, and much more.

One reviewer on Amazon said that they were happy with the purchase of this television. They do point to the fact that the TC-P50U2 does not have anti-glare, but says that it is no such problem when you have a dark room, which is when the TV comes into its own. Get more buyer reviews here.

While looking on the Dell website we can see that one reviewer has left a huge review for this aging TV. The first thing mentioned is just how heavy the TV is, as well as a fear that image burn still exists on Plasmas TVs. The first reaction to the image quality was not that good, but all it took was a few adjustments to the contrast setting and all was fine.
