We previously brought you news of the webOS 2.0 update for the Palm Pre 2 when it was made available for pre-order in November last year. With the news came an uncertainty of whether it would also be available for the Palm Pre Plus.

The Plus version originally appeared on the Facebook page but it was thought to be a typo. Now we can confirm that it will release on the Palm Pre Plus thanks to an article at T3. The article says that HP has been convinced by O2 that releasing the update on the second-gen Pre would be worthwhile.

HP had previously denied the update would come to the Pre Plus. However a rep at O2 Germany said the update would be available to download at the HP website but you’d have to use webosdoctor software in order to get it onto devices.

The OS update will include various features such as multi-tasking, Just Type, synergy, more features for app developers, favorites and Flash 10.1 The update will unfortunately not be available on the Pixi Plus or the original Pre. If you’re thinking of downloading the update or you’d like to know more about it, you can visit the site here.

What do you think of the update? Do you agree with T3 who say the Palm Pre Plus is getting the update it deserves? Let us know your thoughts.

Earlier on today we showed you the officialy specs and features for the recently announced Palm Pre 2, now we thought we would have a look at the size and design and point out some of the main size differences between the Pre 2 and the original Pre.

Let’s start with the dimensions and weight, according to HP Palm the Pre 2 measures in at 59.6mm x 100.7mm x 16.9mm and weighs just 145 grams, this makes it 0.1mm wider, 0.2mm longer and 00.5mm thicker than the original Pre, it is also 10 grams heavier.

Design is very similar too, considering it is bigger than its predecessor in every way the difference is barely noticeable, below we have embedded a photo of the Palm Pre 2 side-by side with the original Palm Pre, many do not think enough has changed, what do you think?

If you would like to see more official press photos of the Palm Pre 2 check out this link.

It would be fair to say that the smartphone industry has moved on a lot since the release of the original Palm Pre, therefore it is no surprise to hear that its successor will have a sleeker look, faster processor and more RAM.

A recent article posted on Engadget suggests that the Pre 2 will feature a 1GHz Texas Instruments OMAP3630 processor and 512MB, which is very similar, if not identical to the Motorola Droid X‘s performance hardware.

As for the sleeker look another Engadget article gives us what we believe is the first-ever look at the smartphone (image embedded at the end of this post), as you can see it looks like its predecessor, however it appears to be flatter and perhaps have a less glossy finish.

I must admit this photo disappoints me slightly as it isn’t a lot different to the original Pre, therefore it seems as if webOS 2.0 may be the real reason to buy the Pre 2, don’t forget this updated OS will not be coming to any existing Palm devices.

Do you think a faster CPU, more RAM and webOS 2.0 is reason enough to upgrade from the Pre to the Pre 2?

Interesting news for Palm lovers now, as the company that was recently taken over by HP have joined forces with Verizon and AT&T to give away free Palm Pre and Palm Pixi handsets to new customers.

Customers who apply for the free handsets via Verizon will also receive a free Bluetooth headset. Sprint on the other hand, who were the Pre’s first home are still charging $100 for the Pre, and $20 for the Pixi. Still not a bad price, but it doesn’t scream free like AT&T and Verizon.

HP are also pushing the release of webOS 1.4.5 with the phones, and while it is not a major update, it does fix some niggles with security and text input while surfing the internet.

But what is the reason for HP giving away the Palm’s for free? Well it seems as though HP want to make room for the newer and improved devices that they have in mind along with webOS.

So what are you waiting for? If you have always fancied a Palm but lost your appetite over the price then this will be the ideal solution for you.

Will you be picking up a Palm Pre or Pixi now that it is free?

We have some good news for AT&T customers who have been waiting patiently for the release of the Palm Pre phone, as it looks as if we have a possible confirmation of a release date for the webOS device.

As reported from BGR, latest leaked documents from the FCC website have revealed that the Palm Pre could be landing on AT&T on 10th May 2010.

The phone will come with the AT&T brand on it, and have support for 850/1900 GSM and WCDMA bands II/V.

Information that comes from the FCC is usually spot on, so we could have stumbled onto a winner here. Let us know your thoughts on it.

As most of you will be already aware, webOS has now been updated to 1.3.5 and has been available since last week. As expected, webOS enthusiasts have spent some time with the new version and have revealed that devices such as the Palm Pre could have support for full 3D gaming this year.

As reported from BGR, two new videos have surfaced, showing the Palm Pre running 3D classics such as Doom and Quake, all thanks to the discovery of native application support within the update.

With the inclusion of an SDL (Simple DirectMedia Layer) directory at their disposal, it now means that webOS developers have access to the underlying graphics hardware on the Pre, paving the way for a whole collection of 3D gaming possibilities.

Exciting stuff if you are a Palm Pre owner for sure, let us know your thoughts on this. Check out the videos mentioned in the link above.

For all those of you who are pretty excited right now in picking up either a shiny new Palm Pre or Palm Pixi, we have found a useful article which lists 5 must-have apps for you to download and get you started on the webOS scene.

If you head over to Pocket-Lint, you’ll see the 5 applications they think are essential for any new webOS enabled phone.

The first app they have listed is ‘Evernote’ which allows you to create a ‘to do’ list on your Pre or Pixi, then easily sync it to your PC or Mac.

Other useful apps include Tweed – a fully featured Twitter app for webOS and Pandora (US only) – which is an internet radio streaming service.

Head over to their website for the full list of apps. Do you think any other apps should make the top 5?
