Other Palm devices received this update back in July, this update brings no new applications, however there is greatly improved security and a few new features.

New features and improvements include enhanced support for the webOS PDK (Plug-in Development Kit), it also addresses a podcast downloading issue and gives you a better overall web experience.

If you have not yet received the update, it should arrive soon, if you are inpatient you can manually check for update by following these instructions.

Have you installed webOS 1.4.5 on you Palm Pre Plus? If so, are you experiencing any problems?

Currently O2 UK offer the standard Palm Pre, therefore it is no surprise to see these handsets offered, both should offer an alternative to the ever popular iPhone 3GS, Sony Ericsson Xperia X10, BlackBerry Bold 9700 and HTC Desire.

Both handsets are available from O2 on 18 and 24-month tariffs, if you check out the image towards the end of this post you can see all of the different pricing options available to you.

Some of the tariffs require you to to pay some cash towards your handset, personally I would go for the £40 per-month 18 month tariff with the Palm Pre Plus, this allows up to 600 minutes of talk-time, unlimited texts, and unlimited data and WiFi.

If you would like to upgrade to one of these handsets you will have to wait until May 28th, on this date these handsets should be available online and from O2 stores.

The Palm Pixi Plus has also been dated on AT&T, leaving you with some very interesting choices to make this Summer.

As reported from MobileBurn, you can now take home the webOS enabled device on AT&T for $149.99 subject to a two-year service agreement with the carrier.

Meanwhile, the Palm Pixi Plus has been dated for June 6th – which is just one day from Apple’s WWDC event just to let you know.

Does the Palm Pre Plus or Pixi Plus offer enough temptations to prize you away from picking up the iPhone 4G? It is heavily rumored to be launching during WWDC, so you might want to wait a few days before making your decision.

As reported from MobileBurn, both handsets will be available on Vodafone starting from April 28th – which is a Wednesday.

For O2 customers in Germany, you’ll be pleased to know that this applies to you as well. Vodafone has yet to release any details regarding prices for the Pre and Pixi Plus handsets, but we expect them to in the next few weeks.

Are any you still interested in picking up either of these webOS enabled handsets? Or do you have something else in mind, like the iPhone 4G perhaps?

[UPDATE]: We’ve just been informed by Vodafone UK that the confirmation applies to Vodafone customers in Germany only. This means that we are still waiting to hear on whether the Pre and Pixi Plus handsets will make their way to the UK this year – we’ll keep you informed.

The AT&T version was announced at CTIA Wireless 2010 a few weeks ago, along with the Pixi Plus. Full details and pricing can be seen in our previous article here.

As for the pictures though, the gallery comes to us courtesy of BGR, who have managed to snap up one of the devices before anyone else.

As reported from Pocket-Lint, Palm revealed the juicy news at CTIA Wireless in Las Vegas, stating that both handsets will be available in the next couple of months in the US. The official price for the handsets will be $149.99 (Pre Plus) and $49.99 (Pixi Plus), with both subject to a two-year service agreement and after a $100 mail-in rebate.

At the moment, the Pixi Plus is only available for Verizon customers, so we expect that a lot of AT&T customers will now be very happy on hearing the news.

Hooray.

As reported from BGR, they were handed the information directly from a source within Verizon Wireless, so this is pretty much a confirmed deal.

It now means that you can pick up a Palm Pre Plus, priced at $149.99, or a Pixi Plus priced at $79.99, without the need of sending in those pesky rebates.

Throughout I4U’s article they compare the Palm Pre Plus to Apple’s iPhone, I4U are extremely happy with the form factor of the Palm Pre Plus when compared to the iPhone as it fits into your hand much nicer.

I4U were particularly impressed with the Plus’ screen when compared to the iPhone, the colors are said to be better than the iPhone and overall the display is bright and vivid.

All in all I4U News seem very happy with the Palm Pre Plus, one criticism is that the QWERTY keyboard is not greatly suited for larger hands and fingers, for more details check out their detailed review.

As part of a contract it is thought that the Palm Pre Plus will cost you $150 (after a $100 mail-in rebate), the Palm Pixi Plus will cost you $100 as part of a contract (also taking into accound a $100 mail-in rebate).

These are the first webOS handsets that Verizon will offer, and as their pricing is pretty much identical to Sprint’s pricing they may do pretty well.

As reported from BGR, both devices will be exclusive to Verizon Wireless at the moment, and will be available to customers from January 25th.

So what’s new in both versions? We are hearing that more memory has been added to both, there are refined design changes, and the Pixi will now receive WiFi support and the Palm Pre gets full video recording and editing support.

There are also some SDK additions to the Palm Pre, while a new flash plug-in is on the way to the App Catalog soon.

Pricing details have not been released yet, we’ll let you know when they are. Let us know your thoughts on the new versions.
