Are you one of the many people that would love to get involved in a charitable cause but never really does because you don’t have a lot of time to spare? If you answered yes, then Orange’s recently released ‘Do Some Good’ iOS app might be the ideal answer.

According to a recent article by Darren Allan over at techwatch.co.uk, the ‘Do Some Good’ application – which is free to download from the Apple App Store – is aimed at those who don’t really have an entire day to invest in a charitable cause, but do want to spare some time doing good.

Orange says that lots of little bits of help all add up to create a big impact for different charitable organizations. Rather than reading a month-old magazine while you’re waiting for a doctor’s or dentist’s appointment, you could be taking on a small task on your smartphone instead.

For example, you could take part in a survey for a charity, in order to help them out on the research front. Every action on the app is supposed to take just five minutes to complete. Other than the feeling of satisfaction that you’ve helped out in some way, the app also rewards those who participate.

The network operator will make all those who complete a total of 60 separate tasks eligible for rewards from the Orange RockCorps Collective, including free tickets to music gigs. Orange intends on expanding the ‘Do Some Good’ app to other platforms at a later date.

What do you thinkof the idea of Orange’s ‘Do Some Good’ application?

UK carrier Orange has confirmed they will be offering the new Sony Ericsson Xperia handsets to its customers. The Xperia Arc, Neo, and Play will be released in the second quarter of 2011.

Orange has managed to get itself an exclusive for the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc; they will have a special black edition available for customers. T-Mobile will also be stocking the Xperia handsets after recently confirming the news according to EuroDroid.

The carrier have also announced some changes to its Android Home screen, which will now include Live Wallpapers according to an article on TechRadar. The images move as your go through home screens, and also have device functions. One of the wallpapers candles, is connected to the device battery life. A candle appears on the screen and slowly burns down as the battery runs out.

According to Orange it wanted to provide customers a more accurate battery life indicator, as it feels the Android icon is not reliable enough. There is also the option to program gestures for various apps and shortcuts. This will save room on the home screen, and there are twenty seven gestures available which can be put on any of the home screens.

If you’re an Apple customer who has been holding off buying an iPhone 4 in the hope that a white version will be arriving soon, then you may just be in luck. It appears that more evidence has surfaced online recently, which points toward an imminent release date for the much-awaited device.

The first hint came a few days ago, when rumors suggested that the White iPhone 4 was making its way to Best Buy and could be available as soon as February 27th. This was followed by reports that claimed the handset had been seen on Vodafone Germany’s inventory system.

Now it appears that the White iPhone 4 has made an appearance on a few more websites, suggesting that a White iPhone 4 release is definitely on its way. According to a recent article by Chris Oldroyd over at tipb.com, UK operators Orange and Three have both listed the handset on their websites.

The White iPhone 4 is also being displayed on AT&T’s Online Account Management (OLAM) system. As John Brownlee from cultofmac.com recently reported, there appears to be two models listed on AT&T’s system, a 16GB model and a 32GB model. However, there’s still no word on a release date.

Are you still hoping to get your hands on a White iPhone 4?

Not so long ago, we reported Orange’s announcement of their San Francisco Smartphone that runs the Google Android operating system. It is also aimed towards first time Android users with its £99 price tag.

However, with every device there are advantages and disadvantages. Just a few to mention on the good side are a build that feels sturdy, a responsive touchscreen measuring 3.5-inches diagonally and nice Orange-specific widgets. It you don’t like the Orange skin; it can be removed quite easily.

The disadvantages of the San Francisco include a rather disappointing 3.2-MP camera that features auto-focus, but no flash. When taking stills the result is reasonable, but the video quality is less than impressive.

Another downside is that it doesn’t come with any Twitter or Facebook apps installed, but you can easily get them from the Android market. What do you find is good and bad about the San Francisco Phone?

Orange and T-Mobile customers in the UK should begin noticing improvements in connectivity from today, this is because a merger is now complete which allows subscribers to roam on both networks for free.

As long as you are either an Orange UK or T-Mobile UK customer you will be able to reep the benefits from both network infrastructures, this should give users much better coverage across the UK.

In some areas local to me there are a lot of Orange UK coverage problems, therefore frustrated customers should be able to hop onto T-Mobile’s network automatically and now have great connectivity without having to search endlessly for one bar of signal.

We would love to hear if you have noticed the changes, therefore feel free to let us know if you have had better reception since the merger.

Orange UK recently launched HD voice, which will give users much better audio quality during voice calls, I must admit I didn’t really think this was necesary at first, however the improvements are great.

If you scroll down you can see a video showing standard voice vs HD voice, it is a similar jump in quality as CD vs cassettes. I beleive that all carriers will soon begin offering a HD voice service.

At the moment there are only a handful of Orange handsets that support HD Voice, these are the Nokia E5, X6, 5230 and the Samsung Omnia Pro, however I am sure future devices will support HD voice as standard.

To give you a rough idea of how vast the improvement really is a standard phone call transmits audio at 6.6 kbps with frequency range of 300 to 3400 Hz, whereas a HD voice call transits audio at up to 23.85 kbps and a frequency range of 50 to 7000 Hz.

It is thought that this improvement will cause a lot more stress on Orange’s 3G network, let’s just hope Orange’s network is ready.

Do you feel the HD voice will become the standard in the future?

Orange UK have revealed that its mobile network have been experiencing some problems over the past 24 hours, with users unable to connect to Orange’s data services.

The network provider also say that the problem still exists and a fix is not expected to be put into action just yet.

The problem started yesterday when Orange users tried to connect to the data services and were unable to.

Voice remained to be faultless, but for those of you wanting to BBM, use Facebook, Twitter or check RSS Feeds and alike, you were either reduced to extremely slow network speeds or nothing at all.

Orange customers who are still having issues are urged to call 150 (pay monthly), 345 (business) or 450 (PAYG). Although Orange do not promise any sort of refunds, a few customers have been offered token credit to make up for down time.

Do you think Orange should put some sort of ‘network status’ on their website that would make it easier for us to know whether the network was up or not? Are you still experiencing issues?
