As Mikael Ricknas over at pcworld.com recently noted, the updated versions – Opera Mini 6 and Opera Mobile 11 – feature improved zooming, which now makes use of the pinch-to-zoom feature on all devices that support it, and improved panning performance and scrolling.

Another new feature included in the updated versions is the share button, which enables users to post messages on social networking websites Facebook and Twitter. The navigation buttons appear at the top of the screen in the tablet version, rather than at the bottom like the smartphone versions.

The Opera Mobile 11 browser – which supports HTML5 – is available for smartphones running Symbian and Android operating systems. There are also experimental versions available for devices running Maemo and MeeGo, and one for tablets running Windows 7.

Meanwhile, the Opera Mini 6 browser is available for smartphones running Symbian S60, Android and BlackBerry operating systems and for devices that are able to run J2ME Java applets. Although the company didn’t release iOS versions, an Opera spokeswoman said that iPhone and iPad owners should stay tuned.

It has recently been revealed that Opera Mini surpassed one million downloads at the App Store in its first day of availability, this has shot Opera mini to the top of the free apps chart in 22 different markets including the US, UK, France, Germany and Australia.

Apparently the browser is not yet perfect, there are still said to be page rendering issues on some sites, however we are hearing reports of many satisfied users on iPhones, iPods and iPads.

The video (which has been embedded at the end of this post) shows Safari running side-by-side with Opera Mini, both iPhones are the same model and are both connected to AT&T’s EDGE network, the comparison video tests which browser can access espn.go.com the quickest.

In the speed test Opera Mini loads the full site in around 7 seconds, whereas Apple Safari takes well over 20 seconds to load the mobile version of the website.

As with the full version of Opera, Opera Mini for iPhone allows tabbed browsing and features speed dial, both features give consumers a richer and easier to use web experience.

I have now used Opera Mini on my BlackBerry Bold 9700 and my Nokia N96, on both handsets I prefer Opera Mini to the default browser, therefore I highly recommend iPhone users to give it a try, for more details check out the link below, also don’t forget to watch the video.

Engadget were one of the first to offer a hands-on with Opera Mini for the iPhone, and the first thing that you will notice is how fast it renders web pages. Upon opening the free new app you will be met with the Opera Screen, there you will see Facebook, Twitter and other links.

When opening a new homepage you will notice just how fast it all is, but some pages do take some time to fully load up when scrolling. Multitouch is not a huge feature for the app, so is just in its basic form.

The new Opera Mini for iPhone has a feature that we had hoped to see in iPhone OS 4.0, and that is to Find in Page. The browser is much better than Safari in so many ways. Download now and give it a try.

Apple do not seem to want any direct competition for their own browser Safari, which Apple would not like to see die from users switching to a rival. A lot of iPhone users would be very disappointed if Opera is rejected, but Apple always seem ready to squash any competition to their mobile devices.

It has now been six days since Opera Mini was submitted to Apple for approval. It seems Apple are dragging their heels in allowing competition to their own browser Safari for the iPhone. Early reviews of Opera have mentioned the fast page loading speed, a reported six times faster than Safari.

There may be a chance Apple will accept Opera to the App Store, but as the days go on it is looking more unlikely. The browser offers features which are not on Safari, like a find-in-page feature, a function that allows users to search terms within the text displayed on a page. Another useful option is a Speed Dial feature which allows users to see up to nine favorite websites bookmarked visually. A few of these options can be found in Safari but only on the desktop version.

The browser developers (Softpedia) will probably get an email explaining any rejection from Apple, but still hope Opera will be approved eventually, and as the days tick by it is looking more unlikely.
