Microsoft has been busy over the last couple of days, not only have they just launched their new cloud Office 365 service, but also Office 2010 SP1, which is now ready for download. However, we would just like to point out that this only updates applications and doesn’t offer any new features. This will be a bit of an issue for those who were hoping for a few extras.

Having said that, we do not normally get new features with a first service pack, so expect more from SP2. It was no secret that there were a few stability issues, along with performance troubles and a problem with security. You will be pleased to know that most of these have now been rectified – well so Microsoft says.

This first update for Microsoft Office 2010 has been a long time coming, as the beta version of SP1 was first released back in November 2010 to a select few. This version that has just been released is very similar with just a few tweaks here and there. We know that this version will not address all your issues with the software, but in time Microsoft will take your complaints into consideration and then work to get them into service pack 2.

According to Redmond Pie there are said to be 50 million Office 2010 users, and is the fastest selling version of the suite so far. This proves that Microsoft still has what it takes when it comes to building software – how come they do not have this same success with mobile operating systems and music players?

Office 2010 was first launched just over a year ago, so has taken all this time for Microsoft to offer up this first update – we just hope that they do not drag their heels with the next service pack. The suite itself was three years in the making and was offered in both 32-bit and 64-bit, but most of you will not really notice the difference.

Some of you might wonder why Microsoft would want to launch a software based Office program, as so many others are now choosing the Cloud option? The good thing is the Redmond company has both covered, but we know in time more people will be shifting over to Cloud, as it is the future. If there were no future in it, then why would Apple be investing heavily in it with iCloud? They now have a brand new data center for use with not only their Mac products but also their iOS devices as well.

Update: We have been informed by Microsoft that they have not quantified the number of people using the suite, but there are 750 million people using various Office suites (all versions) worldwide. Nearly 50 million people use the Office Web Apps to view, edit, and share Office documents from anywhere with a browser and an internet connection.

As we all wait for the upcoming release of Office 2010, what are the cloud based alternatives to Microsoft’s premium software? The thing is, there are a number of consumers and business users out there who are not willing to pay the price for Office 2010 or even the current 2007 version.

It is no secret that when it comes to this Office software, Microsoft have worked hard to offer some of the latest features, all designed to give you a helping hand. However, we all know that the future is not in software that you have to purchase and install, but in cloud-based solutions instead.

The biggest decision why people will stay clear of Office 2010 is its price, it seems as though Microsoft have not listened to its customers. Other users are saying that the new 2010 version is very complex and will be very hard to use, most people look for simplicity.

Office 2010 has no feature to change back to the old 2007 menu system, the new ribbon menu can be a pain to use, not great if you are an inexperienced user to computers as a whole. So why has the software giant got it so wrong?

According to TechReviewSource, there are some cloud-based alternatives; these include OpenOffice and Google Docs. Let us know if you have any other alternative.

Microsoft Office 2010 is all set to launch in June this year, therefore network administrators will be weighing up the odds as to whether or not to upgrade computers to Office 2010.

Currently there are three Office versions installed on many of today’s computers, these are Office 2000, Office 2003 and Office 2007, a lot of users will be more than happy with the functionality offered in these Office versions, so why upgrade?

There are a quite a few pros which Office 2010 offers, one major pro is the addition of the SharePoint Workspace, this will allow secure sharing and editing of SharePoint content both online and offline.

There are also a lot of new features offered in 2010, most of these new features include interface improvements, one notable change is that the applications are 64-bit applications, therefore utilize more data and memory allowing larger Excel wordbooks.

One problem with Office 2010 64-bit is that there will not be a way to move secure databases from 32-bit editions to 64-bit editions. One other disadvantage is that if your business uses Visual Basic applications these may not be compatible new new model used in Office 2010.
