We reported that the Nokia Tube was not just a rumor anymore after an Official announcement, and today we find out that the Nokia Tube will be part of the latest Nokia 5th gen S60 full Touch UI, and it will also be the pilot handset in a new Nokia series.

This pilot handset (Nokia Tube) will not be the brands flagship handset, that will be due shortly after the Tube and we look forward to what that may include. For now we know that the Nokia Tube features a display size of between 3 and 3.5 inches with 360 x 640 pixels, plus HSDPA and uPuP support, quad-band GPRS/EDGE/UMTS, Bluetooth v2.0, Wi-Fi and a camera but we do not know the megapixels yet. The Nokia Tube should be available in Q1 2009.

The web has been buzzing with news of the Nokia Tube, a cell phone/handheld computer from Nokia that is rumored to be an Apple iPhone killer. According to eFluxMedia, this device has now been confirmed thanks to vice president of Forum Nokia, Tom Libretto. His speech at the Evans Data developer conference revealed that Nokia are working on “a new phone, a touch screen, called for the moment Tube”.

Libretto said, “It’s our first touch device” and did not give away much, the device is rumored to be powered by a new version of Symbian operating system.

Do you think the Nokia Tube could be a real contender for Apple?

Nokia Tube: should shareholders be worried?

Following on from Mark’s post earlier today about the Nokia Tube, a cellphone/handheld computer that’s aiming its targets at the Apple iPhone. We had a comment early today on PR that raises an interesting question about Apple’s rule over the high-end phone market.

The reason Apple could rule this market is because the future of the so-called phone is more of a handheld computer/do everything device.

Here is what Arn said:
It’s a hand-held computer that just so happens to have voice capability market, and without a unified approach to the OS and application development, Nokia and the other manufacturers are fragmenting their market share into all these “specialist” phones that only appeal to small niches. They are nullifying the only advantage they have, size.

So they own a huge share of a commodity market. Ask Dell how that’s working out. What good is it if they can’t parlay a leadership position in the current handset market into a large share of this new handheld computer market.

Do you agree and what’s your view of the Apple iPhone and the Nokia Tube taking its market share?
