For those of you who are continuing to experience battery life related issues on your Nokia Lumia 800, we have an important piece of news to bring you. Nokia recently released a new software update for their latest device, and we have now heard specific details from the company on what the update addresses exactly.

According to the Finnish phone maker, the recent 1600.2483.8106.11500 update has solved issues relating to battery life, although obviously some of you are still having problems, highlighted in the ongoing discussion on Nokia’s official boards prompting the official word from Nokia, as reported by Engadget.

Nokia admits in their notes that there was indeed a problem involving battery life of the Lumia 800 and that the recent update intends to improve the situation, or by Nokia’s own wording – allow consumers to make use of the ‘full battery charge capacity correctly’. If you have installed this update, you may be seeing an improvement in battery life, but that’s not the only fix that Nokia aims to solve.

The forum post also confirms that a future update will target audio and camera bugs that are present in the current software, although those of you who are experiencing these problems will have to hang on for the time being.

Unfortunately, it looks like Nokia may have to investigate battery life problems further, as if you take a look at this discussion thread on the official boards, you can see that a lot of users are still complaining about battery life capacity problems even after installing the 1600.2483.8106.11500 update. We’re confident though that the problem will be sorted out eventually, but at least we’re not hearing of any sudden drops of battery life and it’s nice to see Nokia treat the battery life problems head on, rather than perhaps release an updated model with improved battery life like a certain other phone manufacturer has.

If you have a Nokia Lumia 800, let us know how your phone is coping at the moment. Are you still experiencing a loss of battery life after installing the latest software update?

We recently told you that Nokia was already enjoying a large market share of the latest Windows Phone platform. This has come largely thanks the Lumia 800 that first became available late last year, and now we can tell you that the device was wrongly listed with a huge price cut, and there is talk of a white model on route.

According to new reports the latest firmware update revealed some code, which according to T3.com suggested a white model was incoming. The device is already available in black, cyan, and magenta and follows the likes of the iPhone and Galaxy Note with an offering in white.

Meanwhile some consumes thought they had picked up a bargain of a lifetime recently after Argos listed the Lumia 800 for only £120 in the UK. Cnet are reporting that this would have represented a massive £300 saving, and was first spotted by users of hotukdeals.

This led to the deal swamping the internet with 167,332 people hitting the listing for the device during last weekend. It is not known how many customers actually ordered one, but Argos has since said they won’t be getting the handset for that low price.

The retailer has said it would issue refunds to customers who did order the handset, and blamed an error on its website. Many believe though that once a retailer advertises a product at a price it has to honor it. But this is just a myth and the retailer is under no legal obligation to sell the item at that price, even though some will.

Have you ever noticed a product offered at an unrealistically cheap price?

Earlier today we told you how CNET awarded the Asus MeMO 370T the best tablet of CES 2012 accolade, well we can also confirm that CNET believed that the Nokia Lumia 900 was the best smartphone at this year’s show, which is great news for both Nokia and Microsoft.

You can find out why CNET were so fond of the Lumia 900 here, you could argue that compared to some of the Android smartphones which were showcased at the expo the Lumia 900 is a little underwhelming, but we are beginning to learn that comparing WP7 devices against Android counterparts doesn’t always paint the full picture as different software platforms run better on different hardware – for example I still can’t believe how well the Lumia 800 runs with a single-core 1.4GHz processor and 512MB of RAM.

A few days ago we told you that the Nokia Lumia 900 would be coming to AT&T exclusively, however like always Nokia will be selling this smartphone direct from Nokia.com. A recent article over at Engadget pulls in information from multiple sources (mainly the Windows Weekly Twit.tv channel) and it looks like this smartphone could be headed for retail on March 18 – whether this will also be the date it hits AT&T is currently unclear.

Last year Nokia made a huge decision to scrap Symbian in favor of Windows Phone 7 and it looks like this decision is beginning to pay off, the massive growth Google Android saw throughout 2010 and 2011 played a big part in poor sales for smartphones such as the Nokia N8 – not adopting WP7 could have been the worst decision Nokia ever made, so let’s hope we continue to see plenty of WP7 smartphone emerge – perhaps some more affordable models are what we need to see next.

We have high-hopes for the Nokia Lumia 900 and think that it could play a massive part in putting Windows Phone 7 on the map in 2012 – will you buy the Nokia Lumia 900 in 2012?

Back in early 2007 I was due an upgrade and as Android was still a pipe dream and the original iPhone hadn’t even been announced I opted for the Nokia N95. I had this phone 3 days before cracking the screen and then after having it repaired I had to ‘wrap it in cotton wool’ until I was due an upgrade the next year to ensure I didn’t break it again. Now whenever I buy a smartphone I take ruggedness quite seriously – so how does the Nokia Lumia 800 cope with a mistreatment? We have a great video for you to check out.

If you scroll down to the bottom of this page you can see a video where the Lumia 800 is the subject of some pretty rigorous testing. You get to see a key being scratched across the beautiful 3.7-inch AMOLED display, it is also scraped across a masonry wall and dropped multiple times, despite all this not only does the smartphone still work, but it also seems to stay free from bumps and scratches.

The display is rugged thanks to the curved gorilla glass display, however the fact that the Lumia 800 can survive multiple drops is testament to Nokia’s great build quality and the great decision which the design team made when choosing a solid plastic unibody design.

We really think Nokia has stepped up to the plate with the Lumia 800, not only is it physically sound but the decision to scrap Sybmian in favor of Windows Phone 7 was a great one in our opinion. There have been mixed reports when it comes to sales figures, however the fact that lots of carriers have backed this smartphone suggests that this release will be seen as much more of a success than last year’s Nokia N8 release – what do you think?

Are you impressed by the ruggedness of the Lumia 800?

If you needed a further incentive to pick up the Nokia Lumia 800 in the US or in Europe if you don’t have one already, this could possibly seal the deal for you. It has been revealed that Nokia are commissioning a very limited edition Batman: The Dark Knight Rises version of the device that comes equipped with a Batman logo etched on the back.

Just like most things Batman related today, it looks very slick too. The Nokia Lumia 800 has traditionally been shown off in that rather colorful blue casing in recent outings, but this limited edition Batman version comes with a black version of the device, with the batman logo thought to be laser-etched into the device in a devilishly cool darker shade of black.

Nokia has made this semi-official by posting a few pictures and a very brief unboxing video on Twitter, which was picked up by the guys over at Slashgear. If you watch the video, you’ll see that the limited editions are packaged in a Batman-themed box, and aside from the logo featured on the back of the device, you’ll also get a few goodies in the form of Batman wallpapers, and a few Batman Live tiles as part of the Windows Phone 7.5 interface that features on the Lumia 800.

Here’s the sad part of all this though – there are only apparently 40 versions to be made, making this limited edition version extremely hard to obtain. You can bet that various celebrities will be interested in picking up a few of the forty handsets, but the ones that do creep out to the public will probably be seen on online marketplaces such as Ebay for crazy prices.

Let’s hope that Nokia build some more of these as we predict they will become very popular indeed. One slightly disappointing aspect though – if Nokia had made that Batman logo light up in some form or another, this thing would literally sell through the roof. Still though, it’s nice to see regardless. Batman: The Dark Knight Rises hits cinemas next year.

Would you be interested in picking one of these up? Perhaps more importantly – Do you have silly money to spend to get one?

If you have been keeping your eye on the upcoming US launch of the Nokia Lumia 800 handset which runs on Windows Phone 7.5, you’ll be interested to hear recent rumors this week speculating that Nokia may have plans to build a version of the device which is 4G LTE compatible.

A 4G LTE capable Nokia device would then make it compatible with both AT&T and Verizon’s 4G networks of course, but this will be of surprise to some since Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7.5 OS doesn’t officially offer support for 4G LTE, according to BGR.

However, one potential factor in making this all possible is further rumors which suggest that the Nokia Lumia 800 will ship with Windows Phone Tango, which apparently comes with support for 4G LTE.

Consumers will be hoping it happens though, as for the first time since perhaps the N900, the Nokia Lumia 800 is looking like a very good addition to Nokia’s smartphone lineup and it may be the flagship device which puts Nokia back on the map with other manufacturers. For a quick refresh of specs, the Lumia 800 features a 3.7-inch AMOLED touchscreen, a 1.4Ghz Qualcomm processor, 512MB of RAM, an 8 megapixel camera and 16GB of internal memory.

With the likes of the HTC Rezound, Motorola Droid RAZR and soon to be released Galaxy Nexus all on Verizon Wireless, AT&T consumers should be pleased to hear these rumors about the Nokia Lumia 800 potentially making an appearance on their network. A release on Verizon would bolster the carrier’s vast selection of high-end smartphones further, although some consumers may argue that the hardware specs on the Nokia Lumia 800 may turn out to be severely outdated by the time quad-core Tegra 3 phones enter enter the scene – regardless of if it comes with 4G LTE support or not.

How highly do you rate the Nokia Lumia 800? The device is already out in Europe of course, but would you pick one up if it came to AT&T and Verizon with 4G LTE support?

Nokia’s first-ever Windows Phone 7 smartphone, the Lumia 800, seems to be causing quite a stir around the world and is considered by many as a massive step in the right direction for the Finnish company. Today we have some great information for any of you who have suffered battery-related issues with this smartphone.

According to this recent post on Engadget it looks like Nokia’s team of developers are well aware of the problems and are working on updates to improve both power efficiency and charging. If you head over to the Nokia Discussions website you can see exactly what problems people are running into.

We are led to believe that only a minority of Lumia 800 users are experiencing problems, so if you are affected by any battery/power issues you are one of the unlucky ones. At least you can rest assured knowing that these annoyances have not gone unnoticed.

Roughly a week ago we told you that an update was on route, now we can confirm that in early December a software fix will be rolled out to address power efficiency – which should mean longer battery life. Another update will apparently arrive in January and will improve charging.

Both of the updates mentioned will apparently arrive via Zune and as and when we hear more detailed information we will keep you posted. For now we would love to hear from you if you bought the Lumia 800 and have experienced problems, even if they do not relate to power efficiency or charging issues mentioned in our post – leave us a comment below so we can see what issues Nokia need to look at…

Around a week ago we reported that the launch of the Nokia Lumia 800 had received a mixed response from various carriers ahead of a software update for the device. Now we have news that the Nokia Lumia 800 specs see high demand in the UK, and the device is sold out already.

This week has already seen analysts cutting sales forecasts for the company’s first two Window’s Phone handsets. BGR are reporting that it was originally thought Nokia would shift around two million units during the fourth quarter. That was then dropped to only 500,000 after early checks had shown lower than expected demand.

Despite all the analysts suggesting the handset was not going to do well it has been confirmed by Nokia that the handset has sold out in the UK. The company said in a statement that the Lumia 800 had got off to a strong start, and had achieved the “best ever first week of Nokia smartphone sales in the U.K. in recent history”.

Nokia didn’t go into specific sales figures for the device but the country has been a strong market for the company previously. Nokia has seen launches for a number of highly anticipated handsets in the country in the past, so if the Lumia 800 achieved the company’s best ever week it may have sold well. BGR have used the handset and said it was a good start for Nokia as it looks to make a comeback in the smartphone market.

Maybe many consumers are not going to give the Lumia 800 a chance based on previous attempts by the company, which may be a little unfair. Some have spoke of disappointment though that there is no option of expanding memory via microSD card as well.

Are you thinking of the Nokia Lumia 800 as a future handset?

Earlier this week Nokia launched its new flagship device the Lumia 800, which the company is pinning its hopes on to help it reestablish itself in the smartphone market. The handset was the first from Nokia to be running the new Windows Phone 7.5 Mango operating system. Now we can tell you that the Nokia Lumia 800 gets a mixed response to its launch, and a update is on route.

According to FT.com mobile carriers are reporting mixed preorders for the handset compared to other platforms. Two separate sources from mobile carriers have said the device has had much lower orders compared to the iPhone 4S, and handsets on the Android platform.

But carrier Orange are painting a different picture and said the Nokia Lumia 800 has seen the most successful Nokia launch, and had proven to be highly popular with preorders. The fact that the company was giving away a free Xbox 360 console as we reported previously may have had something to do with it though.

Chief executive of Nokia Stephen Elop has said sales of the device will grow over time without revealing any targets. One of the mobile operators said it has to be expected that the device got off to a slow start compared to rivals, as Nokia was only just coming back into the market.

Meanwhile WinRumors are reporting that Nokia are getting ready to release an update for the handset already. This is to fix some address issues with Microsoft Exchange 2003, and also a voicemail notification problem. There are also some improvements related to battery life part of the update. It has been revealed that the update is already in the hands of carriers for testing before release.

What do you make of the Nokia Lumia 800?

Yesterday we had the news that a carrier feels that Nokia’s smartphones are too expensive to shift in high numbers. Now today we have news that it you want the Nokia Lumia 800 without a contract you will have to wait as it has been delayed, and won’t be available before Xmas.

The handset is still available next week via a contract though, but Cnet are reporting of the SIM free delay via online retailer Clove. The device will not be available SIM free until the early part of next year, so you won’t be able to buy yourself the device as a Christmas present unless you agree to a lengthy contract.

This is not always such a good idea as in the long run it can work out more expensive getting the device this way, it just means there is no big outlay to begin with. The handset is quite a good looking device with some nice specifications, but the biggest thing is it will come running the Windows Phone 7.5 Mango operating system.

Nokia is hoping the device helps it gain some market share on the Android and iPhone platforms, but things like this delay won’t help it much in its upcoming fight. There is probably nothing sinister about this delay, and could even be the device has proven highly popular with preorders on the carriers that will be providing the device in the UK.

It could just mean Nokia doesn’t want to upset those carriers and provide enough stock to keep them sweet. Are bothered about this delay of the SIM free version of the Nokia Lumia 800?

Update: Nokia have now said the device will be available SIM free on the 16th.
