The new firmware is called version 51 and should install itself over-the-air, it is said to vastly improve the smartphones security, performance and stability, apparently there are over 450 bug fixes.

In terms of feature and functionality there are a few changes, there is now Office 2007 compatibility, and news versions of Lotus Notes Traveller, Ovi Store, Microsoft Office Communicator and Nokia Chat 2.0 also you should see a noticeable change in the menu layout.

The update is available over-the-air, however before checking for the update ensure you have backed up all important data just in case.

The new applications include Ovi Sync, Advance Communication Manager, Smart Connect and Internet radio, there is also a new version of Ovi Maps installed, which allows free navigation and location sharing.

Details regarding bug fixes are not yet known, however I am sure there will be plenty of refinements to the handset’s browser, there could also be improvements made to the handset battery life. If you noticed any bug fixes feel free to comment at the end of this post.

If you decide to install the firmware update please ensure you back up all important data beforehand, we have no download link, however if you load up Nokia Software Updater and connect your E72 it should find this new firmware version.
