Some people thought that developers would just use NFC for contactless payments, however as BGR recently pointed out it seems as if Rovio have found another use for the technology, they have showed this off last week at the MeeGo conference.

At the conference Rovio introduced the world to a new Angry Birds game called Angry Birds Magic, this game boasts a pretty unique feature which allows you to tap two smartphones together whilst running the game to unlock new levels.

We have embedded a video at the end of this post which tells us that Rovio has been working with Nokia to bring NFC features to future Angry Birds titles, in the video you see two Nokia C7 smartphones side-by-side running Angry Birds, when you touch the two smartphones together you unlock an additional 5 levels, pretty neat, eh?

For the Nokia C7 to be able to do this it needs to have received the Anna update for Symbian (which enables NFC), the exciting thing about this is not the fact that you get 5 new levels, its more the fact that NFC is being used for tasks other than contactless payments.

So what could this mean in the future? Well, Rovio are pushing the fact that this will add a real-life social element to their games, but in the bigger picture it could become a huge marketing tool. We envision this tech being snapped up by stores and brands, imagine having to go to your local McDonald’s to tap their “NFC zone” to receive exclusive content for games, the potential is truly staggering.

In a few years time we could receive free wallpapers, apps, voucher codes and much more just by tapping your phone on NFC sensor when you are making a payment etc, do you like the sound of NFC’s huge potential?

Before a smartphone hits the market in the U.S. it needs to undergo testing at the FCC, well we can confirm that the Nokia Oro must be on its way as it has shown up on the FCC website, you can see all of the Nokia Oro FCC documents here.

For those of you who don’t know the Nokia Oro is the premium version of the Nokia C7, it features 18-carat gold plating around the display, leather on the rear and a sapphire crystal home key. There will be two versions available, one of which is black and gold, the other is white and gold you can see its unique design over at NokiaOro.com.

According to Engadget the FCC has now approved the Oro for frequencies used by AT&T, Bell, Mobilicity, Rogers, T-Mobile, Telus and Wind, currently we cannot confirm which carriers it will hit, therefore we will have to keep you posted as we hear more.

If you are considering purchasing the Nokia Oro we have some great links for you to check out, firstly the official website is a great place to start, also PhoneArena’s full specification listing will come in handy, finally we have embedded a video at the end of this post which gives us a closer look at the Oro.

Now that the Nokia Oro has the FCC’s approval we should start to hear more information regarding a release date, carriers and pricing, we don’t expect it to be cheap, but Nokia has to be careful as an excessive price tag could spell failure for yet another Nokia smartphone.

We would love to hear your views on the Nokia Oro so far, with rumors suggesting that it will cost €800 (which roughly equates to $1100) we doubt that it will be too popular, especially given the lack of love we have seen in recent times for its Symbian Anna OS.

Do you think the Nokia Oro will flop?

The gold Nokia Oro has just been announced, and before you start thinking how come we never knew about this new handset, it’s just a C7. Ok, we know that the outside looks different with its gold and leather finish, but it still has the same hardware as the C7. It is nice to see that Nokia has given this handset a little makeover, but Symbian lets it down.

All the usual suspects are still there, the 3.5-inch screen, pentaband radio and also that 8-megapixel camera. So apart from the OS what is the other downside to the Nokia Ora? That would be the price? OK, so we know that it is covered with 18ct gold, but still not sure it is worth €800 ($1,126).

There is no sign that the Oro will make it to the US, as it is only expected to be released in Asia and Europe in Q3, 2011. However, if it does well then maybe Nokia might reconsider this. Nokia has said that the reason behind the Ora is due to the fact that many people have been looking for more premium products.

Over the years Nokia handsets have been left behind the likes of Android and the iPhone, so we did not expect much from the C7, but we were surprised at just how good the phone was; this is thanks to its high build quality. We wonder if Nokia will start to do this with some of their other handsets? For full details visit Nokia.

Would you buy the Nokia Oro, which is basically a pimped C7?

It would be fair to say that Nokia has failed to impress with their smartphone releases over the last couple of years, therefore my our hopes werent that high for the Nokia C7, however it looks as if this handset could be a huge step in the right direction for Finnish cell phone manufacturer.

Having now read a few reviews it seems as if the C7′s build quality and design is great, the size is perfect and the image embedded below shows it fitting comfortably into the hand.

TrustedReviews’ Edward Chester recently reviewed the Nokia C7, in terms of design he was particularly impressed with its glass touchscreen display and metal backplate, one criticism could be that the C7 has too many buttons for a touchscreen smartphone, however Nokia obviously feel that physical buttons are necessary for some tasks. You can see Edward’s full review here.

OnlyGizmo.com’s Anupama Sushil also reviewed the Nokia C7 and pointed out its great design and build quality, he feels that the overall look and feel is much better than the Nokia N8, you can see his full review here. Anupama seems extremely happy with the uncluttered look of the front of the smartphone, also he is happy with how Nokia’s physical buttons blend in with the C7′s design.

Finally tbreak are also complementary of the Nokia C7′s design and build quality, especially given its price, obviously the specs are not as great as the recently released Nokia N8, however in terms of looks the C7 make the N8 look like a bit of a brick. With a home button that glows for notifications you could say that Nokia are once again becoming innovative, however tbreak also suggest that there are lots of physical buttons which could be replaced with virtual buttons, this in tbreak’s opinion would improve the Nokia C7, you can see the full review here.

Obviously there are many aspects which need to come together to make a smartphone successful, however it is nice to have some good things to say about a mid-high-end Nokia handset’s design, let’s just hope they continue to improve things throughout 2011.

Do you own the Nokia C7? If so, feel free to list some pros and cons in the comments section below.

If you pre-ordered yourself a Nokia C7 and live in the UK you may have already heard that shipping had already began, now we are hearing that pre-ordered handsets will arrive on 25th October (Monday).

Carriers will not be offering the C7 until November 21st, when the C7 does become available some carriers will offer it for roughly £389 SIM-free or free as part of a two year contract (costing roughly £25 per month).

You can buy the C7 direct from Nokia’s site, however they say that you should allow for up to 10 days for delivery, therefore you might as well wait for it to turn up at the mobile phone shops.

At the moment it looks as if only T-Mobile UK and Vodafone UK will be offering the Nokia C7, T-Mobile give you 600 anytime minutes, 500 texts and 1GB of mobile internet per month for £25, whereas Vodafone give you 300 anytime minutes, unlimited texts and 500MB of mobile internet a month for the same price.

If you own either a Nokia N8 or C7 we have some good news for you, Swype has now been released for Symbian^3, this should make text input a lot quicker and easier.

If you have never used Swype and you want to try it out on you Symbian^3 handset check out this link, it has to be said that not everyone likes Swype, however some people think that it is the quickest and easiest way to input text on a touchscreen device.

Swype cleverly allows you to type by simply gliding your finger of the letters in a word, algorithms cleverly predict the words that you write, you can see a demo video of Swype embedded at the end of this post.

Swype has been backed by quite a lot of handset manufacturers, perhaps most notably it comes pre-installed on the Motorola Droid X, Droid 2, Samsung Galaxy S and apparently the Samsung Galaxy Tab, this shows just how popular Swype is becoming.

We would love to hear from you if you have installed Swype on your N8 or C7, let us know if all goes well in the comments section below, perhaps write your comment using Swype.

It’s been a while since we heard anything from Nokia concerning the C7, but we are going to be hearing a lot more about it as Nokia have started shipping the “affordable N8,” their second Symbian 3 phone.

Costing around €335 ($470), the C7-00 is said to be a poorer-mans Nokia N8 having an 8 megapixel camera instead of the N8′s 12, and no HDMI output. More specs can be found on a previous post here. You can also see a video preview of the C7 here.

But the C7 does have some notability, in that the screen response and battery life to that of the N8 are said to be superior. It is also thinner, lighter and comes with an AMOLED display.

Nokia have two more Symbian 3-based smartphones lined up for release before the year is out, the E7 and the C6-01, and with most of the bugs now ironed out and a less-phone heavy release schedule ahead of them, could Nokia’s new wave of phones compete with the iPhone and the growing number of Android handsets?

We have some good news if you are a Nokia fan now, as the company has just announced two brand new smartphones which will be available to buy before the end of the year.

As reported from Engadget, Nokia announced both handsets, along with the new E7 at this year’s Nokia World expo in London.

First up is the C6, it is another candybar style smartphone and it will be equipped with a 3.2-inch AMOLED touchscreen display. The screen is no ordinary AMOLED though, as Nokia state that it will include their new CBD (ClearBlack Display) technology, which promises better visuals when viewing the display outdoors. Other specs of the C6 include an 8 megapixel camera and 720p HD video recording.

The C7 is the more ‘premium’ out of the two handsets, and will come with a slightly bigger 3.5-inch AMOLED screen, again with CBD technology. It also comes with an 8MP camera and 720p video recording, but will come with larger internal memory than the C6.

If you are interested in either of these, Nokia state that the C6 will have an estimated price tag of €260 ($334), while the C7 will be available for €335 ($430). Head over to Engadget for a full gallery of pictures and videos.

If you like Nokia smartphones but do not want to buy a top of the range Nokia N8 we may have the perfect solution for you, this is the upcoming Nokia C7-00.

This handset has not yet been officially announced, however we are reliably informed that it runs Symbian^3 and features an impressive 3.5-inch AMOLED display, which supports a resolution of 640 x 360.

From what we can see the main difference between the N8 and the C7-00 is that the N8’s 12 megapixel camera is far superior, the C7-00 features an 8 megapixel camera and there is no HDMI output.

We are hearing that the smartphone is pretty impressive, however Nokia’s capacitive multitouch technology is far rom perfect, this may be fixed in a future firmware update.

Despite in many ways being inferior to the N8 the C7-00 is said to shine in other areas, we are informed that it has better battery life and screen response than the N8.

As the C7-00 has not been officially announced we are unsure of a release date and price, however sources estimate that it will cost roughly $445, and it should arrive at the end of the fall.

As we hear some official information we will keep you posted, for more details check out the source link below.

Yesterday Jamie Pert reported that Nokia had still not officially announced the C7, but that did not stop a new photo making its way onto the Internet. Things have started to heat up now, as a video preview ahead of a Nokia announcement about when the handset will be released has now been made available, which you can see for yourself below.

There are two videos to watch below, the first is a look at the hardware, and the second is details on the software. Thomas Ricker from Engadget explains that both videos were provided by zol.com.cn, and as you would imagine gives us much more to go on rather than a photo.

So what can we tell you from the videos, which Engadget has translated for those of us who do not speak Chinese? Firstly we know that the Nokia C7 will come with a 2.5-inch screen, which we already knew yesterday, but also the fact that it comes with stereo speakers.

The preview also shows that the handset can handle 720p H.264 video file at a rat of 2.7Mbps. Watch the preview now and see how well the handset handles.
