In a recent article we brought you, we revealed that a large majority of iPhone users in the UK have a cracked screen on their device but continue to use it regardless. The significant percentage proves just how fragile these smartphones are, but hoping to rectify this problem is Nissan who have launched the Scratch Shield, an iPhone case with healing capabilities.

The motor vehicle manufacturer’s Scratch Shield paint technology is thought to be the world’s first self-healing paint which allows fine scratches to mend themselves. It is also the same paint that they use on a number of their vehicles all over the world. The case itself is designed to be more tighter-fitting, robust and rigid than any other, is made from ABS plastic and will fit the iPhone 4 or 4S.

The way the self-healing technology works is when the coating is damaged, it is able to fill the gap created and change back to how it was through a chemical reaction in the structure. This process can take up to a week depending on the severity of the blemish, with lesser damages taking as little as an hour to heal.

Although the product is still in its beta stage, we can expect the case to release as soon as this year if Nissan feel they are satisfied with the results. Europe seems to be the main market aim for now, although NTT DoCoMo, the Japan based carrier is contemplating the Scratch Shield technology for use on mobile phones and have the license to do so. As Expert Reviews explains, its use on these devices offer other benefits such as a better grip and an attractive gloss like finish as well as being more scratch resilient anyway.

What do you think of this Scratch Shield paint technology? Would you consider getting this case to protect your iPhone?

Nissan India has finally started to take bookings for their new Sunny model, and looking at that competitive price, we cannot see an issue with their overall sales forecast. The company said that they aim to shift more than 40,000 vehicles in total form now until March 2012. The Rs.5.75 lakh to Rs.7.68 lakh price for the Sunny will certainly help boost these sales figures.

The Rs.5.75 lakh is for the entry-level model, whereas the Rs.7.68 lakh price is for the top end model. Currently Nissan India has declined to offer any sort of sales expectations for the Sunny, but they must be confidant, as this is an emerging market and the price is not that far out of reach for many of the drivers in India. Okay, so it’s not going to be as popular as the Tata Nano but not all drivers in that country are looking for cheap transport.

Nissan aims to sell nine models in India, five will be built in the country, while the other four will be imported by 2012. The automaker also aims to source 85 percent of the parts needed to build these vehicles in India, with 40 percent of them coming from suppliers in Chennai. The Sunny is the second vehicle to be manufactured in India, the Micra was the first.

Bookings for the Nissan Sunny will begin today, with customers due to take possession of these vehicles on October 3, 2011. To further help these sales, Nissan India will also export the Sunny to parts of the Middle East and Africa. However, as yet we do not know when this will begin. These latest moves will certainly help the third largest Japanese carmaker to move up the rankings a little, but not sure if they have what it takes to trouble Honda or Toyota?

Owners of Nissan’s SUV and pickup trucks are left a little confused as to why the automaker has only extended warranty for radiators because they have been leading to automatic transmission failures. They had assumed that a recall was more appropriate, seeing as though the coolant can leak and effect the transmission, which is said to have cost owners thousands of dollars in repair bills.

The reason for this is because the warranty only covers vehicles with 80,000 miles or less, which seems a little strange, as these vehicles are workhorses and will have a great number of miles on the clock. When owners purchased these SUV’s and pickups they had no idea that this radiator would affect more than that, NY Times says that owners feel as though Nissan should have warned them of this problem.

The most responsible thing that Nissan can do now is to issue a recall of their Frontiers, Pathfinders and Xterras from 2005-2010, as there are many cases where owners do not know about this extended warranty, and also the fact that some of these vehicles have far more than 80,000 miles. It is all very well Nissan saying that they will cover the repair bills that was a cause of the coolant leaks, but what is the point if they do not know about it, and that is comes with restrictions?

You may wonder how the coolant can get into the transmission; well the tank will crack and force the coolant into the transmission cooler lines. Now something like this should not be covered under warranty, there should be a recall, as there is certainly a fault somewhere – surly it will be cheaper in the long run to repair a radiator rather than a transmission?

Should Nissan issue a recall or do you still think that the extended warranty is enough?

Festive Nissan Sunny: India’s something special for 2011

The reason that we are calling this new Nissan Sunny festive is because the automaker is to launch the new premium sedan/saloon during India’s festive season. Nissan feels that they are giving potential buyers something special, but a decent discount is what will be wanted. The company has been enjoying happy times once again, which was all thanks to the small Micro, so we just hope that this success continues.

This is a mid-size car, so will appeal to a wider market and will come in either diesel or petrol variants. The new Sunny was designed back in Japan, but they received contributions from 170 countries. It will be sold worldwide, but it is only the Indian version that we are interested in for the moment. The Sunny will launch in October, and is the second model from Nissan to be manufactured in Tamil Nadu, India, as reported by WSJ.

The reason why such a vehicle will be popular is because there is said to be more than 350 million middle class Indian’s with disposable incomes. It is for this reason why India is a growing market, one that many carmakers want to benefit on. It is also for this reason why the likes of Apple were so desperate to get their iPhone to the country, as well as China.

The new Nissan Sunny will have to compete with the likes of the Hyundai Verna sedan, Maruti’ Swift Dzire and the SX4. These mid-size vehicles have been selling very well in recent months, with an increase in sales of 25 percent. These figures are expected to climb now that the Indian car market is now getting access too much better cars than in the past.

The Nissan Sunny is just the start for the Japanese company in India, as they plan to have nine models in total by 2012. The factory plant in Tamil Nadu is expected to produce around 400,000 vehicles by this time next year; half of these will be exported. This is not only a great boost for Nissan but for the Indian community, as this means that there will be more jobs.

As yet we have no idea on pricing or trim levels, there are no details about the Sunny on the Nissan India website, but as the launch is only a couple of months away, we should expect something very soon.

With gas prices seemingly going up by the day some of you may be thinking of buying a car which costs less to run next year, the Nissan Leaf falls into this category nicely, however we have recently heard that 2012 models will cost more than their 2011 predecessors.

Lots of details regarding the 2012 Nissan Leaf have been posted over at FoxNews.com, in our article we will highlight some of the most exciting changes which the new models will feature and how much extra these luxuries will cost you, don’t worry though as the price increase is not as dramatic as you may think and some options now come as standard with certain models.

We can now confirm that the five-door hatchback will now cost $35,200, which is a $2,420 more than the 2011 model which sold for $32,780. When compared to last year’s model you now get heated seats, steering wheel and exterior mirrors, not only this but the car’s lithium-ion battery pack allows for more range from a single charge, apparently 73 miles per charge is achievable.

If you decide to buy the Leaf SV trim level it will cost you $37,500, last year if you bought this model you would have to pay $700 for a 480v fast charging receptacle, next year this will come with this level as standard and it allows you to reach 80 percent battery capacity within 30 minutes of charging.

For some, the price increase may come as a surprise, however when you take into account that one of the Leaf’s biggest competitors, the Chevrolet Volt, is going up in price next year (most models). We are told that the base price will drop, but this is because Chevrolet is “reducing its level of standard equipment”.

As with the 2011 model you may be able to get your Nissan Leaf for much cheaper if you are applicable for federal tax savings, last year’s model could cost some people as little as $25.280, you can find out a little more about 2011 Nissan Lead pricing here.

The 2011 Nissan Leaf has set high standard for the 2012 model to follow, if you check out the car’s reception section on Wikipedia you will see that it won lots of awards for being very green, the Leaf won the 2011 World Car of the Year accolade and is highly rated over at FuelEcomony.gov, in fact it is the clear leader in the site’s EPA rated 2011 list. We wonder whether the 2012 model will build on this.

Will you buy an electric vehicle in 2011?

One of the most popular sports cars over the past 3 to four years has to be the Nissan GTR, it is for this reason why the coupe is being honored in the new Auto Club Revolution online game, with the beta version due to be released in July. We do not have an exact date for you, but we have managed to find out what other great cars will be included in the game.

The 2008 Nissan GTR will be the chosen model, which would have been the first model to appear in the US, as Japan released theirs in December the previous year. The rest of the world had to wait until March 2009, and some say that the original was the best. Now we know that the newer models have more power and technology, but the first seemed to be raw if you know what we mean?

So what other cars will be joining the Nissan GTR we here you ask? There will be a host of different cars, ranging from hatchbacks to some top supercars, such as the first Bugatti Veyron, 2006 Koenigsegg CCX, as well as the 2006 Pagani Zonda F. However none of these models have me exited in the way that this next model does.

If you were to ask anyone what their favorite supercar was, we bet that there would be one car that gets mentioned more than any other model, and that would be the 1993 McLaren F1? This car manages to hit 240MPH, and when you think that is nothing compared to supercars of today, you have to remember that this car is now 18-years old.

Back in the day cars like this were just hitting over 200MPH, so you can say that if it were not for the McLaren F1, then we would not have the Veyron and other such exotic cars. Eutechnyx’s Darren Jobling said that this is the first batch of cars, but there is much more to come. Do not think that there will be a slow turnaround process, as new cars will be added at a fast rate something that will surly generate a huge amount of interest.

To see these cars in action on Auto Club Revolution there are some beautiful renders that you can see here. Once you have studied these then why not brush up on some technical facts on the setup process of each car – this will save you valuable gaming time once ACR is released. However, you will have to register first.

Whenever you think of green vehicles there are three models that come to mind, the Toyota Prius, the Chevy Volt and the Nissan Leaf. We have to point out that the latter two are more alike than the former, which is why you often see them side-by-side when talking about their green credentials. However, there could be a new car to add to that list, and that is the Luxgen EV.

Now consumer demand tells us that we need more vehicles like the Volt and Leaf, so it is nice to see a start-up coming right in amongst the big boys to shake things up a little. Luxgen’s MPV is an electric vehicle and early reviews seem very positive, and the most shocking part is that the car has not taken that long to develop.

Whenever you think about some of the top make cars in the world you think, German, Japanese or American. However, how often has the Chinese been put in that same category – if not they could be soon? The best part is that this vehicle has seven seats, something that the new Prius V was meant to have, but Toyota stalled at the last moment.

Autoblog had some time to test the new Luxgen EV MPV and although much larger than the Chevy Volt and Nissan Leaf, they couldn’t help notice that it felt more agile and punchy. The interior seemed to be on par if not better than its rivals, but things were not all good, as there was a horrible noise coming form the drivetrain. Having said that, this is expected to be resolved when the production model comes out – when that is we do not know.

We have high hopes for this start-up, as they could show the big boys a thing or two. Something like this could give the likes of Nissan, Toyota, Ford and GM a wakeup call, as you do not have to be big and have a huge amount of resources to build a car that the consumer want.

So how do the three vehicles compare when it comes to how much power comes from their electric motors? The Luxgen has a 150-kW AC motor, the Volt 111-kW and finally the leaf 80 kW. Let’s not read too much into this, as the Luxgen needs that extra power because it weighs so much more than the other models. Having said that, this new start-up is all ready to shakeup the EV market, and we say good luck to them.

Have you ever wondered what it would look like if you took a bog standard Nissan Leaf motor and turned it into a full-out super car? Believe it or not, but that’s what we have to show you now with the introduction of the Nissan Leaf NISMO RC.

Development on the NISMO RC version of the Nissan Leaf has seemingly gone on off the radar, but a new video released this week has thrusted it back in to the limelight. For the first time, we can now show you the NISMO RC in action on a race track at the Sodegaura forest raceway in Japan.

You can clearly see that the vehicle is still in early development stages by it’s Mork and Mindy dashboard interface, but there’s no denying that the car definitely can handle well in a variety of weather conditions. It will be very interesting to see what the final model looks like, and how it fairs on the track against some of the top racing cars.

After testing the NISMO for the first time, Nissan now states that their aim is to improve on reducing costs for the next model. When we’ll see it though is a different matter. Check out the video below, courtesy of MotorAuthority and let us know what you think of it.

We are now getting reports that the new Nissan Qashqai will enter UK production, with 6,000 jobs being saved in the process. The Japanese automaker is said to be investing £192 million in Britain and will help secure the Sunderland plant. All of those jobs being saved are not just in the production plant, but also in the supply line as well.

This is a huge deal for the UK, and shows that the auto industry is now beginning to make some ground again, as we have had a few worrying years. Normally with things like this the government will step in and help, but Sky News reports that this will be funded entirely by Nissan.

They do have their reasons for such an investment though, and being the highest volume production car in the country is jut one of them. There are now said to be over a million sales of the current Qashqai model, with 20 percent staying in the UK and 80 percent being shipped overseas.

The next version of the car will first be designed in Paddington, London and from there will then head to Bedfordshire so that engineers can finalize the design. We do not have any details as to when production will start in Sunderland, but we know that it will be a long process.

Things may be going well for the Nissan Leaf and its crash test scores, but it is a different story when it comes to Nissan’s recall list for April 2011. It seems that the Japanese automaker has to recall 271,000 Infiniti QX4′s & Pathfinder models due to an issue with the steering.

According to a Reuters Report, the affected models were as follows: 225,650 Pathfinders that were built between 1996-2004 and 45,330 Infiniti QX4’s built from 1997-2003. The recall only affects those in North America and Canada, as it has been determined that road salt could cause these vehicles to lose their steering.

Nissan has reason to believe that both road salt and melted snow from these cold states could build up and lead to corrosion, and in some cases lead to the vehicle crashing. For those of you who have one of these affected models, Nissan will be in touch in May, and the issue will be fixed at no cost to you.

We have to wonder what else can go wrong for Japan and their automakers? First we had all the recalls from Toyota and Honda, and then we had the Earthquake and Tsunami and issues with supplies and production. Now we have this fresh load of recalls. However, it is not just the auto industry affected by the disaster, the video game and consumer electronics industry has also been hit hard.
