We have some good news for owners of the Nikon D7000 digital camera, as Nikon has just announced that they have released a firmware update for the device, which you can download now via the official support website.

As reported from NikonRumors, the key area which has been addressed on the D7000 is bright spots, more commonly known as ‘hot pixels’. This occurs when pixels remain on the LCD screen when they shouldn’t and are a huge cause of considerable frustration amongst avid snappers.

The good news, is that Nikon has ‘reduced’ the likehood of users experiencing bright spots on the D7000, but at the same time, the problem hasn’t been completely eliminated. Here is what Nikon states in their update notes:

”Bright spots were sometimes noticeable with live view mode or movie recording of especially dark scenes or subjects. Occurrence of this issue has been reduced.”

You can download v1.01 over at the Nikon support website here. For those of you who own a D7000 let us know if you have experienced any hot pixels on your device, and how serious a problem you think it is.

Following the news of Nikon’s new midrange DSLR the D7000, the new camera finds itself coming up against Canon’s recent new addition the EOS 60D. It also comes up against the Olympus E-3 since it has been superseded by the E-5.

Janice Chen of Zdnet is reporting that although all three cameras are priced reasonably close together the Nikon D7000 easily beats the three year old E-3, and also gives the 60D a run for its money. The new Nikon can’t match the 60D for video recording, but offers manual exposure control and continuous autofocus while shooting video.

The body of the D7000 is compact but a sturdy design, and is also like the E-3 in being dustproof and splash proof. The Nikon also has slots for two memory cards, where SD/SDHC/SDXC can be used. The Canon has the nice articulating LCD offering more flexibility when framing shots, but the Nikons optical viewfinder is superior to the 60D offering.

Use the link for the full review.

We told you yesterday about Nikon’s new D7000 DSLR the replacement for the highly regarded D90. Today we have some more news for you including a video review.

Richard Lai of Engadget is reporting that the 16.2 megapixel beast is aimed at the “social photographer” market. Engadget managed to get hold of an example to give it the once over, and mention it looks quite similar to the D90 but not as light. The continuous shooting button has been transformed into a secondary dial to the left of the unit.

Like the D3100 there is a new live view switch and video record button, which is preferred to the set up on the old D90. One of the best features is the EXPEED 2 image processor allowing for a much improved AF speed.

According to Devicemag the D7000 will be available from mid October in the US and will set you back $1199.95 for body only, and $1499.95. See below for the video of the D7000, and click here for a detailed review.

Looking for a new camera to replace your Nikon D90? Well, look no further than the D7000, this camera is basically a new and improved version of the popular D90 and by the looks of dpreview’s recent preview it looks well worth the money.

The D7000 features a 16.2 megapixel pixel sensor and is capable of recording video at either 1920 x 1080p (24fps), 1280 x 720p (30, 25, 24fps) or 640 x 424p (30, 25fps), the D90 featured a 12.3 megapixel sensor and was only capable of capturing video at a maximum of 1280 x 720p (24 fps). You can see a full specification listing for the D7000 here.

If you want to see a full specification comparison you should head over to dpreview, the D7000 outdoes the D90 in every way, however it is slightly larger and very slightly heavier.

All in all it looks as if the D7000 is a worthy successor to the D90, however you should check out the fully in-depth 7 page preview before making a decision, if you decide to buy it you can get the body only for $1199 / £1099 / €1189 or with the 18-105mm VR Lens for $1499 / £1299.99 / €1399.

Will you buy the D700? If not why not?
