Google’s event has come and gone with no sign of the Nexus 5 or its release date, which has led to a number of fans venting a little frustration along with a few Nexus 5 features they would love to see.

Nexus 5 features and release date hints expected by some – while we were a little skeptical about any details arriving at Google I/O, it didn’t stop a number of blogs suggesting the Nexus 5 would make an appearance during the three hour keynote.

This of course never happened, so the leaks never got confirmed or denied and the hope for microSD card support is still up in the air. LG is still the favorite brand for Nexus 5 although some hope to see HTC instead.

Fans holding out for Nexus 5 – you won’t need to look far to see comments of support for both LG and wanted Nexus 5 features. Some people state they will “hold on with hope for a Nexus 5 in 2013”. This is a little harder for those of our readers with contracts coming up for renewal soon.

Others point out “the Nexus 5 could be the perfect phone”, and after seeing nothing announced made it clear “this sucks, I really wanted this phone”.

It is strange seeing Nexus fans stating they wanted a phone that has no specs, confirmation or any detail announced, but this is largely thanks to most people having a wish list. They have already built their dream phone in their own mind.

Nexus 5 wanted features – top of the list for some would be a Card Slot, but others point out that 64GB to 128GB would solve the need for such a feature in their opinion. Other Nexus 5 specs/features wanted include a better camera, HD screen, better battery life, Key Lime Pie and a jump in processing power.

Are you waiting for Nexus 5, and if so what are your most wanted features? It’s worth noting that LG has an event planned for May 30, although the Nexus 5 is not expected at the time of writing and Google is still silent on the topic.

There have been a number of discussions in regards to the Nexus 4 successor, as it is widely accepted that the one major concern with this handset is its limited storage, so it came as no surprise that the successor would get an upgrade in that department.

The most recent rumors had suggested that the Nexus 5 would come with increased storage, faster processor, larger screen, and the all-important Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie, and would be announced next month during the Google I/O event. However, things may have taken an unexpected turn.

If we are to believe the latest rumor, then we may be looking at a revised Nexus 4 with increased storage rather than the release of the Nexus 5 in 2013. The Nexus 4 32GB model complete with LTE and CDMA is said to be more likely than LG releasing the Nexus 5, because these are the key things lacking on the current model.

However, we have to remember that we have to take this rumor at face value, but it could still happen. We say this because this Nexus 4 upgrade could be a stopgap until Google and LG release the Nexus 5 later this year. Releasing the Nexus 4 successor in May would be far too soon, but November would be an ideal release date.

Having said that, there are still some consumers who believe that we will never see the release of a Nexus 5, as LG will just release the new version and continue to call the handset the Nexus 4. This does makes sense, as in a few years time they cannot call it the Nexus 7 can they? Then again, because the Nexus 4 has a 4.7-inch screen this is the reason for its name, so if a future model is released with a 5-inch screen or above, then they will surely call it the Nexus 5?

The success of the Nexus 4 does not guarantee Google will want to work on a successor, as they may feel as though their energy is better spent on the Motorola X Phone, as they have a vested interest in the project. However, we find it hard to believe that they would abandon such a successful brand, and so we wait to hear news of a Nexus 5 release date, following an unveiling of course.

In recent weeks we have seen a number of rumored Nexus 5 specs, along with concept videos and renders. It’s clear those who love the Nexus 4 want the new/rumored handset, or for those of you who decided to put off upgrading soon in the hope that Google and whomever they will partner with would make an announcement.

To help wet your appetite we thought we would go over some of the most recent specs and possible release date from what has been on the grapevine. Firstly, we would like to draw your attention to the video we have embedded for you above, which goes over some key Nexus 5 features, as well as those all-important specs.

While this video shows us some of the most interesting renders, they do go over some of the specs supposedly leaked from a Google insider. If we are to believe this then the Nexus 5 has been codenamed Megalodon, and as for those specs, we have recently discussed them HERE. However, if these are close to what could appear on the Nexus 5, then the price could be a concern, as the handset would take the high-end smartphone to a whole new meaning.

We’d like to point you in the direction of some more mockups just to see which of them takes your fancy. We still have no idea as to the brand of the Nexus 5 yet, but the most recent rumor seems to suggest LG again. Although, it’s worth pointing out that Google could go with HTC or someone else because of the stock issues towards the end of 2012 and the start of 2013.

Remember, the Nexus 5 rumors we’re hearing so far a more of something to bide time and for those interested in looking for clues towards a release date, rather than facts.

While we still do not know if Google plans to release the Nexus 5 later this year, there is growing speculation that we will hear something at next months I/O event, so for now we have to just take what we see with a grain of salt. We say this because we have already seen a multitude of concepts, renders and also rumored specs.

This is what concerns us, because if you were to believe these Nexus 5 specs, then what sort of price do you think we will pay? The Nexus 4 has a decent amount of features, but Google and LG have had to make a few sacrifices in order to keep the cost of the handset down. Okay, we know if you buy from a third-party the price is a lot more, but it’s still lower than some of the smartphones from key rivals.

Let’s take some of the most recent rumors into consideration; some sources would have you believe that LG will put their name to the Nexus 5 and offer a host of top-tier specs, such as a 5.2-inch Full HD display and a 2.3GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor.

This also sounds like the same hardware that a HTC built Nexus 5 would come with, if this recent concept is anything to go by. However, the screen is a little smaller than the one above and looks a lot like the BlackBerry Z10.

There have also been rumors of a Nexus 5 coming with a massive 4GB or RAM and a powerful 5,000 mAh battery. If all or some of these were to come true, then we would have some Nexus 5 price concerns, as Google and whoever will manufacture the handset will have a tough job at keeping the price at a competitive level, which has been the key success of the Nexus 4.

Thanks to Phones Review.

From the very start the Nexus 4 has had a tough time, not because it wasn’t popular but the complete opposite. Google was unable to keep up with supply and demand, and as you would imagine they quickly laid the blame on LG, although LG blamed Google instead.

It’s taken several months but the stock issues seem to be behind them now, but you have to wonder if this has damaged LG’s relationship with Google? It’s rather obvious there will be a sequel to this popular handset, but who will manufacture the Nexus 5?

If a recent conception is anything to go by then it could be HTC. You’ll notice from the image that the HTC Nexus 5 concept looks rather similar to the BlackBerry Z10; it could actually be a doppelganger to the first BB10 device.

According to Concept Phones the Nexus 5 from HTC could come with a 4.9-inch Full HD display and be powered by a 2.3GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor and 3GB of RAM. Storage has been a bit of an issue for the Nexus 4, so HTC could offer upto 64GB of internal storage, although no word if the smartphone would support a microSD card.

We are impressed with the 16-megapixel rear-facing and 3-megapixel front-facing cameras of this Nexus 5 concept. The current model has physical buttons, but in this conception you’ll notice they have been replaced with virtual ones. Finally, the juice will come from a removable 2,800 Li-Polymer battery, which does seem a little underpowered when compared to some of the new smartphones coming to market.

Whatever happens the Nexus 5 will need to be something special, as the handset will have to go head-to-head with the Samsung Galaxy S4 and the rumored Google X Phone by Motorola.

If the Nexus 5 were released this year then whom would you rather manufacture it, HTC or LG?

There’s no getting away from the fact Google’s biggest competitor when it comes to the release of the Motorola X Phone will be from rival Android devices, so the Samsung Galaxy S4, Note 3 and also the rumored Nexus 5. It’s the latter smartphone that could pose the most threat as this may be released in November, which is supposedly around the same time as the X Phone.

While we have no idea as to what the Google X Phone specs will be, Phone Arena suggests we could see a 4.8-inch Full HD display with Sapphire Glass, 2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, an impressive 4000 mAh battery and possibly waterproof protection like the Sony Xperia Z.

However, the X Phone could also have several customizable options, as this could help drive costs down for those who don’t need all the top features, yet still wants to be the proud owner of the new Motorola handset.

Okay, so we know the upcoming Google X Phone could upstage the release of the Galaxy S4, along with being a huge threat to the Galaxy range if Google gives the new handset range a huge push, but Google will also wish to market the Nexus 4 successor as well.

As yet we have no idea who will be making this or even if it will be called the Nexus 5; but the current Nexus 4 has proved so popular that a successor has to be a sure thing?

We do have an issue with the proposed November release date though; by then the Galaxy S4 will be over 6 months old and will no doubt have a price cut in that time, so Motorola needs to release the X Phone way before November. It’s worth remembering the next iPhone would have launched a couple of months before November as well.

Thanks to Phones Review.

There are so many things that we are not certain of, even down to the name of the Nexus 4 successor, but that has not slowed down the speculation and rumors.

So what could be the Google Nexus 5 selling points? Well firstly there could be camera technology from Nikon, and while you may think this is a little far-fetched, Google and Nikon have already worked together with the Nikon Coolpix S800c. The camera upgrade could be the biggest selling point of the LG Nexus smartphone with its “triple sensor” but let’s take this news for what it is for now shall we.

Another asset for the new handset would be the 3140 mAh battery, which we have to say seems very impressive, but would we expect anything less when you consider that you will be spending a lot of time taking some amazing images with that Nikon shooter? Two others features are what we expect really, such as the Snapdragon 600 CPU and 2GB of RAM.

However, the storage on the Google Nexus 5 looks to still be an issue , if the rumor is true of course, because it’s suggested that there will be a choice of 8GB and 16GB. This is a worry when you consider that users would be using the Nexus 5 more for the camera than some of the other features, and so means you will have to rely on external storage yet again.

It’s hard to gauge how to react to this rumor in regards to Nikon working with Google and LG, but when you consider that the camera was one of the Nexus 4’s weak points, maybe it isn’t hard to conceive after all?

The past few weeks have not been great for those wishing to get their hands on a Nexus 4 and while LG is still committed to their handset saying that the supply issues will soon change, this has not stopped those rumors spreading in regards to the Nexus 5 (or whatever the successor to the Nexus 4 will be called).

Going back to those supply issues a recent article has come to light where LG’s Cathy Robin said that they have over allocated in some countries, meaning that there was an abundance of stock in certain areas, whereas others were told that they had to wait until more stock became available.

Google has on a number of occasions apologized for the lack of Nexus 4 stock and knowing that some areas had more than enough will not go down well with those still waiting for the Android smartphone. However, we shouldn’t be surprised because it has been a mess from the start, but maybe things could soon change now that there is finally a reason for the shortage?

Going back to those rumors of the Nexus 5, it seems that some consumers have already given up on the Nexus 4 and are holding out for the release of the Nexus 5. It’s already been suggested that LG and Android are committed to a long relationship and hope to bring newer Nexus models, and if we are to believe what we are reading, then the Nexus 5 could be with us sooner than we think. If this is the case then what improvements would you like to see made in the next model?
