While all the talk has been about the imminent Droid Bionic release as far as Verizon customers are concerned, one handset that is slowly lurking in the shadows and possibly set to be unleashed soon is the Google Nexus 4G.

Ever since its initial leak, we have heard nothing regarding this elusive handset although consumer interest is doing the rest as its easily the one Android handset that has the firepower to do some serious damage to Apple’s iPhone 5 plans.

With the iPhone 5 aside, it is the Droid Bionic factor we want to concentrate on as many of you may not realise this, but the Nexus 4G is probably going to be the best Android handset on the market as soon as it hits, we would even go as far to say that it may even rival the iPhone 5 in terms of popularity when it is officially unveiled to the public.

The Droid Bionic will feature solid specs such as a 1Ghz dual-core Tegra 2 processor, an 8 megapixel camera, a 4.3-inch qHD display, 720p HD recording, Android 2.3 Gingerbread and of course support for Verizon’s new 4G LTE data network. On paper, this looks pretty good when compared alongside the current crop of Android handsets on the market, however there is nothing ‘next-generation’ about it.

Here’s where Google enter the fray as their Nexus 3 or Nexus 4G definitely has a true ‘next-gen’ aura about it, especially when you consider it may be equipped with specs such as a dual-core 1.5Ghz CPU processor, 1080p video recording via an above average 5 megapixel camera, 1GB of RAM and also 4G LTE support.

However, while we can’t rule out a release for the Nexus 4G on Verizon, we’re hearing whispers that this handset may actually end up being one of AT&T’s flagship 4G LTE handsets, which is a separate battle in itself with regards to network preference on AT&T or Verizon. Regardless of what network the Nexus 4G does appear on, Droid Bionic owners may have feelings of inadequacy, especially if it does appear on AT&T.

Imagine a scenario where AT&T snaps up the Nexus 4G as an exclusive and it does come with a staggering dual-core 1.5Ghz CPU. Combine that with Google Ice Cream Sandwich OS and it suddenly makes the Droid Bionic, once touted as the best Android handset around, second best behind the Nexus 4G.

Obviously this is an insight into a situation which may never arise, but on the other hand it is a very likely possibility, one which Verizon owners will have to deal with. In the meantime, tell us this – Are you still adamant on picking up the Bionic, or are you now a bit cautious with the Nexus 4G lurking in the background?

If you are currently mulling on the huge decision as to which smartphone you will buy next, there are two phones which you would be silly not to consider. One is obviously the inevitable iPhone 5 device, but the other is an elusive device which is slowly turning heads.

We have wrote about the iPhone 5 in vast detail over the last few months, but one impressive-looking device which is quietly lurking in the shadows is Google’s Nexus 4G handset, the successor to the Nexus S which looks certain to become the best Android handset on the planet.

We have spoke about this handset briefly a few weeks ago after the first initial leak on the device, but from then until now we have yet to hear anymore details about the Nexus 4G, perhaps suggesting that it may not see a release in 2012.

While the iPhone 5 will naturally have immediate buyers despite the fact that it’s only meant to be a minor upgrade from the iPhone 4, the Nexus S is the one handset that has the ability to take Apple on head-to-head, and perhaps having the better hardware capabilities out of the box as well.

For starters, it will be the first Android handset to come equipped with Google Ice Cream Sandwich, the next OS which is meant to be a perfect blend of Gingerbread and Honeycomb. Next you have a 1.5Ghz dual-core processor speed which definitely has the potential to blow the iPhone 5 out of the water when it comes to head-to-head speed comparisons.

In defence of the iPhone 5, it will come equipped with the latest version of Apple’s iOS software, as iOS 5 will feature hundreds of new features, most notably iMessage, a new notifications system, Apple iCloud support, WiFi Syncing and the ability to download software updates directly from the iPhone – one of the best features out of the list in our opinion.

Another notable handset which is probably going to be considered as a direct rival to the iPhone 5 is the infamous Droid Bionic, but considering that Verizon and Motorola have been incredibly slow with updates for the handset, we have to say that the Nexus 4G is the Android device which eagle-eyed consumers should be saving their money for. The Bionic will obviously be very popular when it releases this Summer, but as soon as official details are outed on the Nexus 4G, we have a feeling that the Bionic will certainly be overshadowed with its far superior hardware capabilities and blistering processor speed.

If you are currently deciding which handset to pick up and don’t care if it’s an iPhone or an Android handset, tell us which one is most appealing to you in relation to the iPhone 5 and Nexus 4G and why.

It’s fair to say that the term ‘iPhone killer’ is largely over used in the wonderful world of the smartphone industry, but one upcoming Android handset may warrant such a title, and it comes in the form of the recently leaked Nexus 4G handset from Google.

Until this week, this phone was unheard of, presumably hiding away in the shadows. But a recent report by BGR revealed that Google are hard at work on their next Nexus handset after the Nexus S, and once again it looks like it’s going to send shockwaves throughout the industry.

With potential specs such as a dual-core 1.5Ghz processor, a ‘monster’ 720p display screen, 1GB of RAM, 4G LTE support and 1080p HD you can probably forgive us for already calling this Google’s new superphone. There are even suggestions that this phone could be equipped with Nvidia’s upcoming quad-core Kal-El processor, but we doubt we’ll see that come to the public until 2012 so that aspect is probably ruled out.

However, despite that mouthwatering processor potential, the one big factor that’s gonna get everyone talking this weekend is the fact that the Nexus 4G is lined up to be Google’s flagship handset that will ship with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich – joining the the exclusive club of the Nexus One, the Nexus S and the Motorola Xoom to get the latest versions of Android before any other device.

Of course we don’t know what final specs the iPhone 5 will end up having, but strong guesses are an edge-to-edge 4 inch display, an A5 dual-core processor, an 8 megapixel camera and of course iOS 5 right out of the box. Whatever it does end up possessing, Google’s Nexus 4G is going to be right up there in terms of competition, you could even argue that the Nexus 4G will blow the iPhone 5 out of the water rocking a 1.5Ghz dual-core and Android 4.0 – that’s probably best reserved for another argument though.

After reading these initial details on the Nexus 4G, do you believe that it has the potential to be a genuine, bona fide iPhone 5 killer or not? Early days yet, but we’re throwing it out there regardless.
