We are just hours away from Google’s highly anticipated I/O event at the Moscone Center in San Francisco. Excitement and speculation has been building up on a possible Google X phone to be unveiled in collaboration with Motorola, but there is also the little matter of the outstanding White Nexus 4 as well, which has yet to go on sale.

When the Nexus 4 initially launched, many consumers were under the impression that they would be able to choose from a white version as well, along with the traditional black model. However, it never happened due to unexplained reasons and the White Nexus 4 has managed to stay a mystery for over half a year.

We have had small leaks during this period, but perhaps the biggest has come just before Google’s event. The device has appeared in a video originating in Dubai, but not how you expect it. A white Nexus 4 would come with a white body all over you would presume, but now we have learned that Google may be offering the device with a white back cover only, with the front still featuring black colors.

Watch the video above to see what we mean then decide what you think about it. We would have preferred to see a full white coating, but some of you may actually like the hybrid design on this occasion. The white crystalized design on the back certainly looks nice, while the reminder that the device is made by LG is still there to see as well.

Hardware specs are thought to be exactly the same as the original, while this device in particular is running Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. The device is also locked in place as you can see, since the video was apparently captured at a Qualcomm booth – giving further evidence that this black and white iteration of the Nexus 4 is definitely on the way.

What do you think about the mixture of colors? Would you prefer to have a white paint job all over or not?

There have been a number of discussions in regards to the Nexus 4 successor, as it is widely accepted that the one major concern with this handset is its limited storage, so it came as no surprise that the successor would get an upgrade in that department.

The most recent rumors had suggested that the Nexus 5 would come with increased storage, faster processor, larger screen, and the all-important Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie, and would be announced next month during the Google I/O event. However, things may have taken an unexpected turn.

If we are to believe the latest rumor, then we may be looking at a revised Nexus 4 with increased storage rather than the release of the Nexus 5 in 2013. The Nexus 4 32GB model complete with LTE and CDMA is said to be more likely than LG releasing the Nexus 5, because these are the key things lacking on the current model.

However, we have to remember that we have to take this rumor at face value, but it could still happen. We say this because this Nexus 4 upgrade could be a stopgap until Google and LG release the Nexus 5 later this year. Releasing the Nexus 4 successor in May would be far too soon, but November would be an ideal release date.

Having said that, there are still some consumers who believe that we will never see the release of a Nexus 5, as LG will just release the new version and continue to call the handset the Nexus 4. This does makes sense, as in a few years time they cannot call it the Nexus 7 can they? Then again, because the Nexus 4 has a 4.7-inch screen this is the reason for its name, so if a future model is released with a 5-inch screen or above, then they will surely call it the Nexus 5?

There are many solutions when it comes to wireless charging on smartphones, although they all still have their limitations. However, one handset that overcomes some of these constraints is the Nexus 4 from LG, because it’s a lot better than some of the charging docks we have seen in the past, and even the one for the Sony Xperia Z.

The ultimate wireless charging solution would be the ability to charge your smartphone without the need for any wires, even those that need to supply the power to a dock. As we said before, the Nexus 4 is able to sit on its dock without having to plug a wire in, although the base itself still needs to connect to a power source with a lead.

However, this solution is far better than the Qi wireless charging platform for the Sony Xperia Z, as it’s a lot like going back a few years, as you need to put your handset in a case first. According to Reuters, the custom case from Ipan Ipan works through magnetic induction and can be customized in a choice of several different colors.

Ipan Ipan had a tough job getting their case to work with the Xperia Z because the rear cover is made from glass, and you are unable to remove the battery. Thankfully they were able to overcome this obstacle, but we still feel as though the wireless charging for this handset is a bit of a workaround.

The price for the case on its own is €39, but if you wish to purchase the case and charging pad then you will have to part with €89. The Nexus 4 Wireless Charging Orb is around the same price as the case, although there is no need for any other accessories.

For those of you who have been waiting to get your hands on the Nexus 7 in India, then you will be pleased to learn the ASUS tablet is finally available to purchase via the Google Play Store in the country. However, before you get too exited, there are limitations with the storage options.

The 16GB Nexus 7 is currently the only storage option available to the Indian market at this time, but this should change once Google and ASUS are able to evaluate if the tablet has proved popular or not. We’re told the price for the Nexus 7 in India is Rs. 15,999, which converts to $295.

To some this seems a little expensive and could prove an issue in a market all about value for money. It’s hard to say if such a price will affect sales or not, but if it does then this could cause an issue for the larger storage capacity being released at a later date.

The tablet will begin shipping to the Indian market from April 8, 2013, but this has only opened up old wounds, yes we are talking about the availability of the Nexus 4 in India. This handset by LG and Google has been expected to see a release in India for sometime now, and even though the release of the Nexus 7 in the country is seen as a good sign, we have to remind you that both companies have been unable to agree on a competitive price, and as such have caused this delay, which is explained in more detail in this report.

However, things are looking more positive now, although they cannot expect to release the Nexus 4 in India if they cannot even get the pricing of the Nexus 7 correct.

Do you believe Google is getting rid of their stock before the 2nd-generation Nexus 7 is announced?

You may have been wondering what has happened to the missing White Nexus 4 smartphone from Google. The elusive variant was expected to go on sale alongside the black model after launch, but Google are still quite clearly experiencing production issues which is holding up progress.

The good news that we have for you this week, is that a release may now be a definite possibility after Google’s I/O conference in May. We say this as white Google Nexus 4 bumpers are now being spotted as on sale by certain retailers, and it should serve as an exciting reminder that the white model is very close to a release.

As you can see on Google’s Play Store in the US, only the black bumper cases for the Nexus 4 are available at the moment, albeit out of stock at this time. However, the image seen above has been taken from a Canadian retailer called Videotron, who are now selling white Nexus 4 bumper cases for $19.95 in Montreal.

As far as we’re aware, the same cases have not been spotted in US or indeed Europe yet, but we wouldn’t be surprised if they start turning up over the next few weeks. What we want to know though, is just how much demand there still is for a white Nexus 4? We say that because all eyes are now on the Samsung Galaxy S4, which is likely to come with better hardware specs out of the box than the Nexus 4.

Is color everything to you, or has the white Nexus 4 craze now dampened severely due to the delays? The sparkling crystal finish on the back of the device is certainly pretty though, so Google really needs to speed things up if they are going to make the most of sales potential.

Have you spotted any white Nexus 4 bumpers in your local electronics retailer? Let us know if you would still be willing to buy a White Nexus 4, or just the white bumper fitted on the black model.

Today, we have seen T-Mobile deliver a Nexus 4 price drop that is certainly the best deal to date from the carrier. You might not be able to get the Smartphone for free with T-Mobile, but you can now get the handset for $49 when you take out a new contract.

This is impressive for a number of reasons, especially considering getting hold of the Nexus 4 had been a real challenge just a few weeks back. The prices on most websites and in local phone stores were raised thanks to demand, although this isn’t a problem right now and T-Mobile are showing this with their new price point.

It is worth noting that this deal is a web-only offer, which only adds to the chance that this is the lowest you’ll see the Nexus 4 both online and offline. There’s no sign that this is a limited discount, but be warned it could be pulled at anytime.

The deal gets better when you take into account the free car charger and no activation charge for all SIM cards.

Google Play were the cheapest place to purchase the Nexus 4 for a while, so considering you will pay around $350 through Play can only make this offer sound even better although that price is contract-free. You can read about the Wireless Charger in an earlier article if this is something you’re interested in.

Since LG and Google released their joint venture, the Nexus 4, many of us had wondered how long it would be before they released the wireless charger that goes with it. That was answered a week ago when Nexus 4 owners could finally get their hands on the Orb as it was dubbed.

The funny thing is from the start it was as though we had seen it all before with the Touchstone dock from Palm. The idea behind this accessory is to be able to charge your Nexus 4 wirelessly, but some users have already started to complain, as it lacks practicality.

There are two reasons for this, the first is that it will take 4 hours to charge a depleted Nexus 4, and secondly, it’s not wireless when you have to plug the dock in then place your handset on the charger.

We no doubt expect some of you to argue that you have to plug your router into a wall socket so that’s not wireless either, but then you don’t have to sit your device directly on top in order to gain access to the Internet now do you.

However, with all said and done it’s still far better than the alternative, and there’s also the fact that many of us use such a device to charge our Apple Magic Mouse.

LG and Google have been working hard to get on top of things and trying to increase Nexus 4 availability.

Consumers have been visiting websites and also heading down to their local retailer in the hope that they have an update on Nexus 4 and even Nexus 7 stock. However, help is at hand to make the process of checking stock much easier thanks to the use of Google Maps.

Using these new Google Maps URLs you will be able to find the location of your nearest retailer stocking the Nexus 4 smartphone and 7 tablet. All you need to do is enter your address and you will see results appear from 5–50 miles from your location.

We thought we would give the URL a go and found that only T-Mobile is stocking the Nexus 4, but more retailers should appear once more stock becomes available – whenever that will be. What would really be cool if Google could offer a stock alert for those wanting a new Nexus 4, this could be linked to their Google Play account.

It’s no wonder that the Nexus 4 is selling out so quickly because a review of the specs shows that it is more than capable of holding its own against the other high-end smartphones on the market, as well as the price being very competitive.

Since its release date the Nexus 4 has been in and out of stock, and there has even been issues with its accessories, with the wireless charger only becoming available recently.

It’s not just the USA who is having Nexus 4 stock issues, as the UK and all across Europe are also experiencing the same issues. For a Nexus 4 stock update visit here and Nexus 7 stock checker here.

Today in the US you will now be able to get your hands on the Google Nexus Wireless Charger (a.k.a. Orb), but those in other countries will have to wait a while longer. This accessory has been a long time coming, but at least you can now get it today for $59.99, which to many of us seems a little expensive, although it’s a pretty solid charger to go with your LG handset.

We already had a pretty good idea that the Orb was ready to ship on February 12th, so the rumor was not that far out. The image that has appeared on the Google Play Store has added some confusion, as it shows a different battery status screen, which many consumers are now thinking that there is a software update for the Nexus 4. However, an Engadget reader has said that the image being displayed is the app Battery Widget? Reborn! Pro.

Some of our readers have said that they have been experiencing issues when trying to process their order, but we would advise you to be patient and keep trying. It’s no surprise that people are having these issues when you consider how long they have had to wait for this first-party charger.

When we first learned of wireless charging we expected it to be so much better than what it is. Okay, so you don’t need to plug your handset into the base, but you still need to plug the base into an outlet. It’s certainly a good start for charging your smartphone, but when are we finally going to see true wireless charging?

We have some bad news for those of you looking to pick up the 8GB Nexus 4 in the US. We’ve now entered February and if you thought that stock troubles would start to ease up, it looks like you’re wrong as the 8GB version of Google’s latest flagship smartphone is still being met with delay after delay in relation to shipping times.

After the initial Nexus 4 crisis in which all Nexus 4 inventory was sold out, Google recently placed the device back on their Play store with a healthy status, with both the 8GB and 16GB models now available to buy for those that didn’t have the chance to snap one up in November.

If you opt for the 16GB Nexus 4 in the US, you’ll be able to purchase the device directly from Google for $349 and face a wait for 1 to 2 weeks delivery time. While this is long enough for most consumers, it appears that Google are still having big problems keeping up with demand for the highly sought after 8GB version.

Available for just $299, Google has now updated the Play store with a confirmation that all new orders face a minimum wait of 3-4 weeks, meaning that it could even be the best part of a month until you actually receive your Nexus 4 at your home from when you first ordered it. It’s obviously not an ideal situation for all concerned and it may just make you consider your purchase again, especially with rumors of a Google X phone from Motorola around the corner, which is more than likely going to top the Nexus 4 in hardware specifications.

Is the Nexus 4 excitement still buzzing within you, or has stock troubles killed off all interest that you initially had? Let us know if you are still desperately trying to pick one up, or if you have turned your attention to another device that is on the way this year.
