We have some mixed news for Nexus 10 fans, but definitely worthwhile for those looking to pick up a new case for the popular tablet. It has been well documented that an official Nexus 10 dock is much requested by consumers. Unfortunately, there’s still no sign of when it will appear, but we have news about the official Nexus 10 Book Cover to share with you.

For those who remember the Android Christmas Card video, you’ll know exactly what we are talking about here. During the video, Google clearly advertised a Nexus 10 dock, but we are yet to see it appear on the Play Store – so what’s going on? Whether there are manufacturing issues at hand, Google are continuing to remain silent on the matter but hopefully they will be giving out the good news during Google I/O next month.

In the meantime, you can now bask in the glory of the Nexus 10 Book Cover – the first official Nexus 10 accessory to land on the Play Store. It is available in a choice of two colors, either Scarlet or Dark Gray and is priced at $29.99 or £24.99 for our readers in the UK.

The Book Cover is similar to your standard tablet flip cover, in that it will automatically clip on to the back of your Nexus 10, thanks to a concealed section where the Book Cover will now attach to. Once in place, it will then protect the front of your screen, whilst at the same time functioning with sleep and wake up features as well – iPad Smart Cover style.

It looks pretty enough, although we’re not too sure about that Scarlet color – perhaps a little over the top on the brightness. Hopefully Google will add more colors through the year, but Dark Gray certainly looks like a safe bet for the moment. If you have a Nexus 10, let us know if you are interested in forking out $29.99 for one.

Are you also waiting for an official Nexus 10 dock to arrive?

When we learned that Sony was to release the Xperia Tablet Z to go with their smartphone we knew that we were in for a real treat at MWC, which is where the Android tablet was being displayed. As you would imagine this latest device would be compared to the likes of the iPad 4 and the Nexus 10, but which of the three should you consider?

Both Android tablets have a lot to offer but if you don’t care what platform you want and are looking for a more premium looking tablet, then the Sony Xperia Tablet Z and the Apple iPad 4 should be more advisable than the Nexus 10. To help you decide which tablet would suit your needs then we have 2 video reviews on these, one above and the other below.

In the first video we see the Xperia Tablet Z and the iPad 4 pitted against each other, and it doesn’t take long to see the former is not only thinner but a little lighter as well. However, what stands out for us is how the Tablet Z offers the same water and dust resistance as its smartphone sibling, which is handy in certain circumstances.

Xperia Tablet Z vs. iPad 4 and Nexus 10 video reviews

After watching the second video, which compares the Xperia Tablet Z against the Nexus 10 we learn that these two Android tablets come with 2GB of RAM, while the iPad 4 only has 1GB of RAM, although Apple is able to manage their memory far better. We can’t help notice that the Nexus 10 looks a little cheap when placed next to Sony’s tablet, although the impressive display on the Samsung tablet more than makes up for this minor issue.

Which of the three would you choose? While it’s clear that the Sony Xperia Tablet Z has several features that are far better than the other two, the price could put you off a little. However, you have to remember that improved specs and a sexy and sleek design was always going to come at a premium.

Android 4.2.2 Nexus 7, 10 update released, Nexus 4 looms http://www.product-reviews.net/2013/02/12/android-4-2-2-nexus-7-10-update-released-nexus-4-looms/ http://www.product-reviews.net/2013/02/12/android-4-2-2-nexus-7-10-update-released-nexus-4-looms/#comments Tue, 12 Feb 2013 12:38:49 +0000 Peter Chubb http://www.product-reviews.net/?p=157477 Android 4.2.2 Nexus 7, 10 update released, Nexus 4 loomsWhenever there’s a new Android update you can be sure that Nexus devices will be the first to get hold of the download, which is evident with the latest Android...]]> Android 4.2.2 Nexus 7, 10 update released, Nexus 4 looms

Whenever there’s a new Android update you can be sure that Nexus devices will be the first to get hold of the download, which is evident with the latest Android 4.2.2 update, as the Galaxy Nexus, and also the Nexus 7 and 10 have also benefited from the new version of this mobile OS.

However, if you have a Nexus 4, then you will need to wait a little longer, although we do expect Android Jelly Bean 4.2.2 to be made available for the handset soon, seeing as though it has already been spotted running on certain Nexus 4 handsets.

The availability of Android update 4.2.2 has started to trickle out onto select Nexus handsets already according to a recent report, with the Galaxy version being the first to receive the latest version. However, we have been told that some Nexus 7 and 10 owners have also been lucky enough to receive the update.

We say lucky, but 4.2.2 does not offer much in the way of new features, but what it will do is rectify a few issues. One such issue is now said to be resolved in the Bluetooth audio, because if audio was streamed via Bluetooth it could often skip. However, we’re hearing that while the update has improved feature, it’s still not perfect and needs more work.

We are still uncertain as to whether Android 4.2.2 has any other significant changes, so we’d love for you to share what you have found in our comments section below. However, we are sure that this latest update will anger some Android users, as they are still waiting for update 4.1 while others are already receiving 4.2.2.

For that quality leather case, you wouldn’t go far wrong with the Bear Motion Nexus 10 Premium case with stand that’s currently available in black. Supporting the auto wake/sleep function, this product has recently gone down drastically in price, so those looking for the ideal case which is great value for money may need look no further.

Transforming into a sturdy stand the Premium Case Cover by Bear Motion has been tested to assure real quality with some of the best materials available, and an extreme reduction in price can be seen on their official website, BearMotionCase.com. With a listed price of $39.99 their heavily discounted price is a fraction of the initial cost, now going for only $12.99, which is a 68% saving of $27.00.

Even with a shipping cost of around $4.49, this is a great bargain and going by those who already own one, good things have been said about the Premium Case Cover. As far as the stand goes, this is regarded as structurally sound and very useful, although some have suggested that the back of the cover is a loose fit. In a brief YouTube video embedded below, viewers can see the case being shown off with a demonstration of the wake sleep function and the quality.

When it comes to quality cases to accommodate you cherished Nexus 10, the Case Cover by Bear Motion is a steal for only $12.99, so we would love to know if you already have a reasonably priced case with a similar quality, or do you intend to pick up this bargain?

There were rumors that Samsung had the Nexus 10 on show during CES, and while this may be true, it’s believed that this was not a working model. However, from what we know there will not be many changes to the 2nd generation, just a few hardware changes but the exterior is expected to stay the same, meaning that the new Nexus 10 for 2013 could just be a minor refresh.

It was at last years Google I/O conference when the Nexus 10 was officially announced so we expect the same to happen again later this year, and while there will be some of you who are happy with their 10-inch Android tablet, others would have noticed that the hardware is just not up to the job.

The Nexus 10 2013 refresh is rumored to come with a faster quad-core CPU, 8-core Mali-T678 GPU and an improved display, which is three areas where the Nexus 10 let us down. You may wonder why we have said this is a minor refresh, well it seems as though the exterior will stay the same and will not change until next year, which is when the Nexus 10 is said to get a more extensive upgrade.

All this is just speculation, but there’s a possibility that we could learn more about this new tablet during MWC next month, although we cannot be certain of that. Let’s hope that by the time Google and Samsung release the refreshed Nexus 10 they can finally manage to sort between themselves who is responsible for warranty issues.

Nexus 10 vs. Vizio 10-inch Android tablet http://www.product-reviews.net/2013/01/11/nexus-10-vs-vizio-10-inch-android-tablet/ http://www.product-reviews.net/2013/01/11/nexus-10-vs-vizio-10-inch-android-tablet/#comments Fri, 11 Jan 2013 09:39:35 +0000 Peter Chubb http://www.product-reviews.net/?p=156278 Nexus 10 vs. Vizio 10-inch Android tabletDuring CES this year Vizio shared with us their upcoming tablet range and while they currently have just an 8-inch model, all that is about to change with three new...]]> Nexus 10 vs. Vizio 10-inch Android tablet

During CES this year Vizio shared with us their upcoming tablet range and while they currently have just an 8-inch model, all that is about to change with three new models soon to hit the market. However, all we are interested in today is the Vizio 10-inch Android tablet and how it compares to its main competitor, the Nexus 10, although there could be a new version of the latter by the time Vizio release their new tablet.

When you look at some of the key features both the Nexus 10 and Vizio 10-inch tablet are evenly matched, but it’s not until you dig a little deeper that you see that the Vizio could outperform its rival because of the Tegra 4 processor, which is said to be much faster and offer far better performance than previous versions of this chip.

Both the Nexus 10 and Vizio 10-inch tablets run Google Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, although you’ll notice from the video below that the latter tablet was running the older 4.1 OS. Internal storage for the Vizio tablet is 32GB with the Nexus 10 offering a choice of 16 GB or 32 GB. While we know that the Nexus has a 5-megapixel main camera and a 1.9-megapixel rear camera, Vizio did not specify the specifics of theirs.

Both devices are evenly matched when it comes to screen resolution at 2560 x 1600, but we have to point out how much lighter Vizio’s 10-inch slate is when compared to Samsung’s Nexus 10. The most positive feature would have to be the minimalist design of the Vizio, but this did not come easy, as they had to balance battery performance while not compromising on weight but the end result is a tablet that is lighter than the Nexus 10 and iPad 4.

Which tablet will you choose? Where the Vizio 10-inch Android tablet could have the edge over the Nexus 10 is the fact that there will be far better support for accessories. Now some of you will say that they don’t mind the sacrifice with the Nexus 10 because they get stock Android OS, but Vizio also uses stock software so no skins or anything else to compromise its speed and ability to get an operating system update quickly. There is no price details for the new Vizio 10-inch Android tablet but we do know that it will be released in the second half of the year.

New Nexus 7 and 10 rivals from Vizio, key features http://www.product-reviews.net/2013/01/08/new-nexus-7-and-10-rivals-from-vizio-key-features/ http://www.product-reviews.net/2013/01/08/new-nexus-7-and-10-rivals-from-vizio-key-features/#comments Tue, 08 Jan 2013 15:15:13 +0000 Peter Chubb http://www.product-reviews.net/?p=156181 New Nexus 7 and 10 rivals from Vizio, key featuresHaving already announced that they were to launch an 11.6-inch Windows 8 tablet, Vizio has now seen fit to bring a couple of Android running tablets to CES, which looks...]]> New Nexus 7 and 10 rivals from Vizio, key features

Having already announced that they were to launch an 11.6-inch Windows 8 tablet, Vizio has now seen fit to bring a couple of Android running tablets to CES, which looks very much like a pair of new Nexus 7 and 10 rivals. However, what we are most interested in is the fact that the larger model will come with the newly announced Nvidia Tegra 4 chip, and the smaller tablet being powered by the Tegra 3 chip.

As yet Vizio have yet to name their new tablets or offered a release date or price, but we expect it to be more competitive than the two Nexus tablets. The 7-inch Vizio tablet will have almost the same hardware as the Nexus 7, which not only includes that Tegra 3 processor but also the limited storage of up to 16GB as well. However, where the Vizio tablet will differ is its profile and weight, as it will not only be thinner, but also lighter as well.

Again the 10-inch tablet coming from Vizio will have a lot in common with the Nexus 10, but there are some subtle differences, such as also being lighter and thinner. However, it’s the inclusion of the Tegra 4 chip that should set it apart from the Nexus 10. If we are to believe what is being reported, then the new Android 4.2 Jelly Bean 10-inch tablet from Vizio will be one of, if not the fastest of its size on the market.

What interests us the most here is how you will soon have two new Android powered tablets that will be comparable, if not better than the Nexus 7 and 10, as the should have better product support and a greater choice in accessories. Again, we have no clue as to when these tablets will be released, but we do expect to see them in the first half of 2013.

Nexus 10 replacement screen responsibility confusion http://www.product-reviews.net/2012/12/28/nexus-10-replacement-screen-responsibility-confusion/ http://www.product-reviews.net/2012/12/28/nexus-10-replacement-screen-responsibility-confusion/#comments Fri, 28 Dec 2012 11:12:06 +0000 Peter Chubb http://www.product-reviews.net/?p=155944 There’s been a lot of confusion when it comes to understanding just who is responsible for the Nexus 10 replacement screen and other such problems, as we know that this device has had several issues with its display. We have heard a number of cases where owners of this recently launched tablet are having a few issues in getting their device repaired, as it seems that neither Samsung nor Google are quick to respond to getting this issue resolved.

It seems that Nexus 10 owners are having trouble getting these devices repaired; we’re hearing that Samsung do not wish to take responsibility and are telling those affected that they need to get in contact with Google, but Google are then sending them straight back to the Korean consumer electronics maker, which we are certain will be annoying those Nexus 10 owners.

So who is responsible for repairing the Nexus 10? What we don’t understand is why should it be down to Google to resolve as nowhere on the device does it say Google, and we all know that it’s a Samsung made tablet. However, some consumers have said that because you cannot go to Samsung’s website to purchase the Nexus 10, then the buck should stop with Google. You also have to consider that when you purchase a device from a certain store, you take it back to that store if it needs to be repaired.

This is yet more proof that the Nexus program is not going as smoothly as Google would have hoped, not only is there an issue with customer support, but there is also a lack of accessories as well.

Looking over on Google Groups you can see that Nexus 10 owners looking to get their tablet repaired are not happy and are venting their frustration, as they seem no closer in learning if it is either Google or Samsung who should take the responsibility. However, we have recently learned that a spokesperson for Google has said that it is in fact Samsung who has to deal with the repair process, and as a result have contacted Samsung in order to remind them of the fact.

So you’ve spent your hard earned cash on a Nexus 7 or 10 and are looking for a case that will help protect them, while also making the tablet still look elegant. As with all tablets there are a great choice available, but we feel that the Nexus 7 and 10 handmade cases from DODOcase are particularly nice because of the attention to detail, something that you don’t get with some of the more mass produced cases.

We thought we would take a look at two different version of products that DODOcase have for sale on their website. Firstly there’s the DODOcase HARDcover for the Nexus 7, which has been crafted to the highest standard to make your tablet not only look much better, but also protect it as well. The case is much like the iPad cover because it contains a magnet within the cover that will activate the Nexus 7 when it is opened. We have seen these cases for other tablets, but this one had to be redesigned for the Nexus 7 to make it stand out from those other versions.

You’ll notice by visiting the DODOcase website that this particular case also doubles as a stand as well, making it ideal to watch movies on and you can even attach it to the rear of a car or airplane seat thanks to the handy elastic clip. You can even have the case personalized, a little late as a Christmas gift, but there are always birthdays. The Nexus 7 DODOcase HARDcover price is just $34.95 and is available in a variety of color options.

Next up we have the DODOcase Durables Sleeve for the Nexus 10, and you’ll notice that this offers minimal protection, but it will save your tablet from getting scratched if you have it near other devices or if you place it on different surfaces. Like the case above this sleeve has also been made by hand from the skillful men and women from DODOcase, and while the design will not be to everyones taste, we have to say we just love the exterior with its sage waxed canvas finish and the soft felt lining to keep that screen not only protected but clean at the same time.

Nexus 7 handmade sleeve from DODOcase

The only issue we have is just the one color option, which could put a few people off and while some may suggest that the $64.95 price tag is a little on the expensive side, you have to remember the materials and hard work that has gone into making this sleeve for the Nexus 10.

Nexus 4 and 10, absence of accessories http://www.product-reviews.net/2012/12/23/nexus-4-and-10-add-ons-are-absent/ http://www.product-reviews.net/2012/12/23/nexus-4-and-10-add-ons-are-absent/#comments Sun, 23 Dec 2012 22:31:17 +0000 Daniel Chubb http://www.product-reviews.net/?p=155891 Google’s Nexus 4 and Nexus 10 are winning a growing fanbase thanks to a device that receives software updates directly from the brand behind Android, and these Android tablets and smartphones also offer a lot for the money, so where are the Nexus 4 and Nexus 10 accessories? This is part of the package when creating a really good device, which needs to have great accessories to support the tablet or smartphone after the retail sale.

The Nexus 4 shipping woes and ordering problems have been well documented, and the issues with supply look to be LG’s fault, if a recent Google statement by the UK MD is anything to go by, but this doesn’t help those that finally have the Nexus 4 / 10 and want some decent accessories for their new gadget.

LG and Google launched the Nexus 4 around a month ago and since that date we’ve seen a pretty cool bumper, but not much else. Users have been hunting for other cases, car accessories, and docks without any luck from Google directly.

nexus-10-smart-cover

We’ve heard from PR readers crying out for Nexus 10 keyboard docks, Nexus 10 smart covers as seen in the promo videos, and some are also very envious of the accessories seen with Apple iPhones and iPads. It is fair to say that most Android users are not envious of Apple users, but when it comes to support for iDevice accessories it is clear to see the difference at this time. We’re sure Google will find a solution to this problem, although we also wonder how long it will take before a bigger range of accessories are offered for the Nexus 4 smartphone and Nexus 10 tablet?

What accessories would you like to see for the Nexus 4 and Nexus 10? If you’re waiting to order the Nexus 4 then our advice is wait a little longer and be ready to order the moment the device goes live on Google play again. It will be well worth it if you can hold out. If you managed to order the Nexus 4, did your handset ship sooner than you first thought? You can read about the Nexus 4 arriving weeks early in this article.

We’ve included a video below from Google that promotes a happy holiday, although do you spot the Nexus 10 dock within the video?
